Best and Worst of Free Agency

With free agency finally underway in the NFL, here's my thoughts on the five best and five worst free agent signings so far.

Just to be clear, I'm only including true free agents who signed with new teams in this list so guys like Charles Johnson who would undoubtedly make one of these are ruled out because he resigned with the Panthers. Guys who were traded like Albert Haynesworth were also ineligible.

1. Eagles - Nnamdi Asomugha - There can be no doubt that whoever signed Nnamdi would make this list but the price the Eagles paid was very good and their defensive backfield suddenly looks very strong.

2. Rams - Harvey Dahl - Dahl has been a solid part of the Falcons offensive line for the last few years and will bring a nasty streak to the protection of Sam Bradford.

3. Falcons - Ray Edwards - After seeing Charles Johnson get a monster contract, the Falcons paid far less for a more proven commodity.

4. Texans - Jonathan Joseph - The Texans needed to upgrade their defensive backfield and JJ is a young corner with bags of potential.

5. Chiefs - Steve Breaston - Breaston has been a very good number 3 for the Cardinals and will get the chance to show what he can do as a number 2 in Kansas City.

1 Dolphins - Matt Moore - The Dolphins had the chance to go and get Vince Young, Kyle Orton, Kevin Kolb and several more. Instead they went with Matt Moore - yuck.

2 Titans - Matt Hasselbeck - When you've got a guy with a 30-17 record as a starter and cut him and then draft a first round rookie, only to sign a veteran to a three year deal with starter money you have to wonder what the strategy is.

3 Jaguars - Paul Posluszny - Posluszny has been an ok starter for the Bills but the Jags have paid him like a top five linebacker, which he isn't.

4 Bears - Roy Williams - The Bears needed to get involved in ther Sidney Rice sweepstakes, not just settle for a washed-up Roy Williams. This team will not make the Super Bowl without finding a true number 1 target for Jay Cutler.

5 Redskins - Barry Cofield - Have Washington not learned their lesson? Paying large sums of money to a guy who has never played in the 3-4 is a huge gamble...again.

I mostly agree but....

Not sure about that Steve Breaston selection. He got the chance to be a #2 last year in Arizona and blew his knees out - badly. Will he ever be the same player again? Arizona didn't think so.

And I believe the Posluzny signing was a good one. Sure they overpaid him, but he is the heart and soul of their D.
