Full Version: An under-rated Cornerback

I agree Rob, I think he is one of the more consistent corners out there.

Jeff? What sayest thou?

I'm at a bit of a disadvantage because I didn't see any Ole Miss games last season. From the research I've done I've gotten the impression that he has great potential and displays it once in a while, but he is still inconsistent. I certainly plan on keeping an eye on him this season to see if he is able to put it all together.

I'm more than willing to change a profile if necessary. I guess Adam and Rob have both seen him enough to decide that he is consistent? Although citing a strong spring practice means jack to me, especially considering the talent level of the Ole Miss QBs and wideouts. Also Rob stated (in his profile of Johnson a few posts earlier) that he "is generally matched up on the wide outs"...? What does this mean?

As always, the conference writer has the final decision....

I think he can be a Dunta Robinson type corner that wont have a lot of INTs but just gives you blanket coverage and can help on run support. I think his rank is as a top 10 corner, but certainly not a first rounder at this point.

ohmy.gif Whoa there, he's pretty good but he's NO Robinson, no way no how, a better comparison is Mario Edwards, with a little more toghness, Robinson has near H.O.F potential, I have not seen that from Johnson at this point!

I dont mean that type of potential, just a lockdown corner who bats a lot of passes away, but dosent grab the INTs. In no way is he a Dunta Robinson, just that type of physical corner.

The bottom line is that this is a weak year for corners, seniors that is. The juniors are better; Youboty, Webb and Charles Gordon might be the three best.

Very good point, Cromartie and Marshall too!

Well, in order to appease the masses, I'll go back and revise the profile when I get a chance. I'll make it sound less negative and really try to highlight some of his potential and his measurables. smile.gif

I think you touched on some good points in your write-up, you weren't way off base, he doesn't have the speed to be a early draft pick, but I think you should touch on some of the positives as well as the negatives. I would take a wild guess and say with a good senior campaign he might be a 5th or 6th round draft pick. I think I have beat this dead horse.

Did somebody say "Whips & Chains??"....yee haw!!!!!

I made some changes... hope everyone is happy. I will be keeping a very close eye on him throughout the season to see if I need to change it back to the scathing criticism I posted originally. wink.gif laugh.gif

The stats on the profile all came from the Mississippi website. And, yes, this horse is dead. I'm not going to change his profile again until I see some action from him this fall.

That's fine, your business; I was just trying to help you formulate an accurate profile. At the very least check your stats again, it's a minor thing, but his official stats for 2004 are actually *13 pass break-ups (defended) and 2 INTs. Unless they are consideraing an interception as a pass defended? Which is usualy a completly seperate stat isn't it?

So perhaps the horse is coughing up blood but not dead yet! wink.gif

This page:

is where I got the stats from (scroll to the bottom). Although I do see that in the 2004 highlights on the same page that it says 13 PDs. I'll go ahead and change the stats.

That's the kind of thing that put the 'C' in CDS. wink.gif
