Well out of the 3 prospects in teh game, DT Steve Fifita (Utah), S Eric Weddle (Utah), WR John Madsen (Utah), RB Mike Bell (Arizona), and S Darrell Brooks (Arizona), Eric Weddle shined. Im not going to lie though, I didn't see much of the game, but I did see most of the 2nd, all the 3rd, and parts of the 4th. So, here we go:

DT Steve Fifita-Utah
Had a solid performance. Has 2 Assisted tackles. I did see though that he did a good job of dropping back in a zone blitz play and he had a great rush on the Arizona QB (Kovalcheck) that almost resulted in a thrown INT.
Result: UP SLIGHTLY

S Eric Weddle-Utah
You couldn't ask for a better performance in such a critcal game. 10 Tackles, 2 of them for a loss, 1 INT returned 24 yards for a TD, and a FF. He did miss a key tackle on 3rd down, right after a play that he positioned himself beatifully on. The drive ended up in a Arizona TD too. But other then that, just a amazing performance by Weddle and expect him to continue to be the playmaker on this Ute defense.
Result: VERY POSITIVE

WR John Madsen-Utah
John who? That's what most people would be saying after this game. Only 3 receptions for 14 Receiving Yards. I did see him have a great block on one play and I don't remember him dropping any passes or missing any key blocks so,
Result: NEUTRAL

RB Mike Bell-Arizona
Average game. 18 Carries for 99 Rushing Yards and 0 TD's. Also had 2 Receptions for 3 yards. Defintaly not the type of game you expcet from Bell against a team who isn't to strong against the run.
Result: NEGATIVE

S Darrell Brooks-Arizona
Had goood game with 11 Tackles but really wasn't a game changer or a playmaker. Will probably look back at the 11 Tackles later on in the season and be like "wow, he did a good job." But if you watched the game, you would no he just wasn't a playmaker at all in the game.
Result: NETURAL

Others:
Utah and Arizona O-Lines
No Sacks in the game so each O-Line had to be doing something right.

CB/FS Casey Evens-Utah, Junior
Had a good game with 7 Tackles and a INT. I think he is a player on the rise (not like into the first day or anything) and by the end of next year, will have a good shot at being drafted.
Result: POSITIVE

LB Dan Krogstad-Arizona, Sophomore
Had a great game, espically for a sophmore with 15 Tackles, two for loses, and a PD. Is 6-1 226 lbs. and if he can bulk up to at least 240 by his senior year, I believe we will be talking about him as a first day selection.

RB Quinton Ganther-Utah, Senior
A sleeper RB? 5-10 214 lbs. and ran all over the Arizona defense. 24 Attempts for 127 Rushing Yards, and let's not forgot 2 Receptions for 50 Receiving Yards and 1 Receiving TD. Also, look at this. 4.53 forty time. And, he bench presses 430 lbs. (best on team) and squats 545 lbs. (3rd best on team). He is defintaly a huge sleeper and deserves to be added to the database ASAP! I will write-up his bio if you all would like me to and let me,
Result: POSITIVE

WR Michael Thomas-Arizona, Freshman
If he bulks up, we are looking at a kid with a lot of potential. 6-0 170 lbs. right now. Had a good game with 7 Receptions for 92 Receiving Yards and 1 Receiving TD. Like I said, if he bulk up, has a lot of potential.
Result: POSITIVE

QB Brian Johnson-Utah, Sophomore
For being the first QB ever, to replace a Heisman Trophy Winner/1st pick of the draft on a undeafted team w/o his head coach from last year, he did an amazing job. Not the greatest game ever, but under the circumstances (let's not also forgot a 16-game winning streak riding on the line and being at home in a sold out stadium) it was very good going 19 for 30, with 220 Passing Yards, 1 Passing TD, and 0 INT's. He is 6-1 and 203 lbs. and like Thomas, if he can bulk up, has tons of potential. Is a great leader with good poise, strong arm, good accuracy, and very, very smart and athletic. If Johnson can stay mistake free, Utah could very well go undeafted this season.
Result: POSITIVE

Just something to add, If Ganther can continue to perform like he did tonight and Johnson stays mistake free, we will be looking at the Utes going undeafted for 2 years straight and making it 35-1 over the last 3 years. Right now, I gotta say that I believe Wyoming is the only team with a legit shot of beating the Utes, though I wouldn't be surprised if Air Force pulled off a upset.

Sounds like it was a great game. Thanks for all of your perspectives Josh.

like your analyses, well done.

Very solid work, but I think you were a little hard on Darrell Brooks, yes he made many hits way, and some W-A-Y downfield, but the front 7 were below par and when Brooks hits you, you really know it. I agree with rest, though I think Bell's O Line play let him down some too, IMO. wink.gif

Weddle played great, I think Madsen is no longer a PP for now however. Anyways, Utah looked good without Urban Meyer. As far as Arizona, they looked ok, I still think they could be a sleeper team in the Pac-10 in future years though.
