Maryland's rallying cry all week had been "55-6" harking back to last's years thrashing they suffered at the hands of the Hokies. Last night the Terps played much better, but two missed field goals in the third quarter when the game was still within reached took the wind out of their sails. Maryland just does not have the "O" this year to match up with the better teams in the country, and their "D"--much like Kansas--can't do it all by themselves.
SCOUTING SUMMARY:
College: Virginia Tech Conference: Atlantic Coast
Name Jersey# Height Weight Speed Position
Darryl Tapp 55 601.0 268 4.70 DE: Solid game. Not highly productive from a stats standpoint but did everything you would expect him to do. Holds the point well, and we all know he can rush. Projects better than Dumervill, but there are lots of similarities. SLIGHTLY POSITIVE
Jeff King 90 605.0 263 N/A TE: Not too involved in the receiving end tonight, but does a nice job in all phases, and is athletic enough to maintain his current ranking and be a mid-round guy. NEUTRAL
Jimmy Williams 2 603.0 216 4.45 S: Made a couple of big league hits, but got flagged on a play out of bounds. Not challenged through the air AT ALL--as usual. SLIGHTLY POSITIVE
Jonathan Lewis 56 601.0 308 5.00 DT: One of the top 5 D Tackles in the country--no doubt. It would be great to see how he held up without rotationg in and out for four quarters just once though. Really pressures the pocket. POSITIVE
Marcus Vick 5 600.0 212 4.30 QB: The team won DESPITE Marcus tonight. His 3 picks silences and of the Heisman talk for sure. Ran a lot more tonight than I've seen him do before, and did so effectively. Seemed to take something away from his passing game though...SLIGHTLY NEGATIVE
Cedric Humes 32 601.0 233 4.54 HB: DNP that I saw...
James Anderson 42 603.0 222 4.48 LB: Best game I have ever seen from James. He is very much your pass-coverage specialist at OLB, but he can get in the backfield sometimes. Definitely created a big distrubance tonight and would have gotten my defensive game ball. Not tall enough or big enough to be considered a high priority guy for the draft, but played bigger than he is tonight. POSITIVE
Xavier Adibi 11 602.2 229 4.51 LB: Was all over the field. Showed great athleticsim and pursuit abilit. Takes good angles and plays with a lot of football savvy. Another guy you wish was bigger, but he is A FOOTBALL PLAYER. POSITIVE
Will Montgomery 66 603.0 305 4.85 C/OG: Played both LOG and C tonight, and did very well at both spots. Showed me more pulling ability than I've seen before--and by that I mean hitting the target accurately and HARD. He also got out on the second level and made plays. Best game I've ever seen. May be rising the charts if he keeps this up. VERY POSITIVE.

D’Qwell Jackson 52 600.0 231 4.7 LB: D'Qwell was very vocal in the lockerroom before the game but didn't back it up much on the field. To be honest, I thought he looked very average in all phases tonight. Was not able to get through trash, got cut some, couldn't drop fluidly. NEGATIVE
Gerrick McPhearson 38 510.0 194 4.25 CB: Made his presence felt with a couple of heavy sticks, but almost started a brawl when he hit a guy out of bounds all the way into the Va Tech sideline contingent. Had an importan FR on the goalline in the 2nd Q to give the team some hope. Did not display his speed that well, and didn't get thrown at much. NEUTRAL
Vernon Davis 18 603.0 250 4.41 TE: Wasn't a factor until late in the game. #85 was getting more time at TE early...weird. Did some nice things when the game was over though...NEUTRAL
Stephon Heyer 70 606.0 321 N/A OT: DNP
Others:
#48 Kershaw for Maryland was HUGE on defense tonight too. QB Hollenbach went out for awhile and was replaced by Statham who was then yanked again quickly in the 3rd Q.
