...after a 3-0 start! This must be heartbreaking to CDS regular QB Darrell Hackney. The Golden Eagles jumped all over UAB in the first quarter, taking a 17-0 lead. UAB is their own worst enemy lately. Penalties and special teams miscues have cost them dearly the past three weeks. Last night they commited two HUGE roughing-the-punter penalties to keep Southern Miss drives alive, and both times it led to TDs.
SCOUTING SUMMARY:
College: Alabama-Birmingham Conference: Conference USA
Name Jersey# Height Weight Speed Position
Darrell Hackney 4 601.5 244 4.85 QB: Started very poorly as Southern Miss was using tight press coverage on the wideouts and they were unable to break free from it at all. Darrell really got it rolling midway through the 2nd quarter and was on fire the rest of the way. He went 29 of 42 for 407 yards and 3 TDs. His only pick was the receiver's fault. Displayed that great arm strength, good accuracy and a VERY NICE touch (on one TD pass in particular that he lofted softly over a LB for the TE). He showed tough running ability again, but his pocket awareness last night was the worst I've seen. He was sacked 4 times and didn't seem to feeel the pressure until it was too late. SLIGHTLY POSITIVE
Dominique Cosper 21 511.0 190 4.60 S: Another quiet game for Dominique. I can't really figure out whether he is being avoided, or whether he just isn't quite the playmaker I thought he might be this year. SLGHTLY NEGATIVE
Larry McSwain 44 600.7 250 4.78 DE: Did not do well early on, but came on as the game progressed. Was the vocal defensive leader of the comeback attempt. He is not "Closing the deal" this year though like he did lasy year on his rushes towards the QB, but seems to be playing the run much better. NEUTRAL
Reggie Lindsey 11 510.0 185 4.50 WR: A frustrating night for Reggie. Southern Miss made it a goal of theirs not to be beaten deep by Lindsey, and he did not respond to the challenge very well. Darrell only found him a couple of times, and was forced to look elsewhere most of the night. Reggie is not strong enough to break tight press coverage against solid corners. SLIGHTLY NEGATIVE

John Eubanks 1 510.5 175 4.50 CB: Played pretty well all night. Did his job very well in the press, and helped shut down Lindsey. Was solid in all phases. SLIGHTLY POSITIVE
Trevis Coley 18 601.0 221 4.70 S: A very good "lay-the-lumber" game for Trevis. This was one of the better games I've seen him play. He was a reall enforcer on crossing routes and looke good in run support a well. probably led the defense in tackles and was the heart and soul of this mild upset. POSITIVE
Antwon Courington 80 601.5 209 4.62 WR: DNP...out for the year.
