This one didn't seem to hurt as bad because it was expected, unlike last year. That was by far the best the Cowboys have looked all year (at least the first half). Due to the expected closeness of the game, I didn't do a very good job scouting it. I did alot more watching than scouting, but I will do my best. Oh well, on to the review...
College: Texas Conference: Big 12
Cedric Griffin 8 601.0 205 4.47 CB
Positive. He was really physical in the second half. A real hard hitter for a cornerback. Typical solid effort.
Michael Huff 7 600.0 199 N/A S
Very Positive. He was the playmaker for Texas and led the complete shutdown of the Cowboys offense in the second half. He was all over the place on special teams, he was all over the ball on defense. He has serious potential.
Rodrique Wright 90 605.0 305 4.9 DT
Slightly Positive. He was the main focus for the Cowboys offensive line all night, and Texas rotates alot on the D line, so he wasn't a dominating factor. He really plugged the gaps in the second half and played strong.
Jonathan Scott 73 607.0 310 N/A OT
Neutral. He got a little dinged up in the game, but he was still effective. He really started to wear down the DE's as the game went on.
Vince Young 10 605.0 230 N/A QB
Slightly Negative. How in the world can I say slightly negative for a player who lead his team to victory and had over 500 yards of offense by himself? Because he has serious flaws in his mechaincs. He overthrows receivers way too often. He drops his elbow and tries to finese the mid range throws. We aren't talking about a top level defense here, and he was 7/22 at one point. He is a great leader and athlete, but if he doesn't tear down his mechanics and rework them, he will look more like Aaron Wright instead of the McNabb clone that everybody thinks he is on the next level.
Larry Dibbles 92 602.0 285 N/A DT
Neutral. His playing time is being cut into because of the rotation Brown has employed this year. His numbers will be down, but he is still a very solid player.
David Thomas 16 603.0 245 N/A TE
Positive. He has made strides with his blocking this year, and you can see it on the field now. He also made alot of plays in the passing game and was the most consistent receiver for the Horns. Really starting to emerge as a top teir tight end for 2006.
Will Allen 72 606.0 315 N/A OG
Slightly Positive. Not really much to say here. Does his job.
Aaron Harrris 2 600.0 235 4.63 LB
Positive. This guy is really impressive. He has all the responsibilities for making adjustments in the defensive front and does a great job at it. A real leader and a force in the middle. Very underrated.
Justin Blalock 63 604.0 329 N/A OT
Slightly Positive. See Will Allen.
College: Oklahoma State Conference: Big 12
Shawn Willis 37 601.0 260 N/A FB
Positive. Helped lead the way for a resurgent Cowboys running game. He is such a beast and is athletic and versitile enough to contribute running and catching the ball. I'm not sure that he is not the best FB available this spring.
Jamie Thompson 23 601.0 190 N/A S
Slightly Positive. He reminds me alot of Dawan Landry from GT. Not flashy or eyepopping, but he really gets to the ball and throws his body around. Tough kid.
Paul Duren 12 601.0 240 N/A LB
Slightly negative. He has really become the odd man out of the linebacker rotation. He just struggles to much in pass coverage and lacks the agility needed to be a top linebacker. Not sure if he is really a PP or not at this point. Still a very experienced, tough player.
Xavier Lawson-Kennedy 90 601.0 315 N/A DT
Neutral. He had one of the better games of his star-crossed career. He had a nice play on special teams blocking a kick with nice penetration up the middle. He started to fade down the strech and the line got worn down but the bigger, more physical Texas front. I bet he'll be one of those players like Maurice Stovall, who were very highly touted HS recruits, and fail to live up to their billing until their senior year. Not really PP at this time.
