UConn simply can not match up in the trenches against the top 25 teams. Their offensive line was horrible tonight, paving the way for NEGATIVE total rushing yardage...lol...despite the presence of two PROVEN quality RBs. Rookie QB Dennis Brown was harrassed all night and couldn't get the ball to his receivers on the rare ocassions when he wasn't. he was yanked in the fourth quarter of his first career road start. The Mountaineers just ran at will over a defense that lacks the big linemen and lights out LBs you need to play an opponent of West Virginia's caliber. In short, the score was exactly what you would have thought it might be coming into the contest. WVU's QB Pat White threw the best block I have ever seen from a QB--taking out two UConn defenders TOTALLY. He also displayed a little Marcus Vick running the ball and was OK throwing it.

SCOUTING SUMMARY:

College: Connecticut Conference: Big East
Name Jersey# Height Weight Speed Position

Shawn Mayne 40 603.0 243 4.73 DE: He tries hard enough, but there just ins't enough "there" there. Undersized and doesn't look fast enough to be tried at OLB. In short, he will be lucky to be a UDFA. NEGATIVE

Jason Williams 80 600.0 177 4.50 WR: He's good, but he had ZERO chance to show it tonight. Were Orlovsky chucking it still we might be talking about a possible 5-6th rounder. No more. One catch. NEUTRAL

Cornell Brockington 33 600.0 192 4.53 HB: I don't know what has happened to Brockington. He still has a year of eligibilty left, and it's a good thing because he will need it to makeup for this nightmarish season he is having. You can blame a good part of it on the blocking, but the great ones make their own holes, and he isn't doing it. NEGATIVE

Deon Anderson 0.0 N/A TE: DNP

College: West Virginia Conference: Big East
Name Jersey# Height Weight Speed Position

Jahmile Addae 4 511.8 205 4.49 S: A quiet game for Jahmile. He was banged up early and even though he returned he was never really much of a factor after that. SLIGHTLY NEGATIVE

Mike Lorello 23 601.0 200 4.62 S: Still the leader...just does his job EVERY GAME. Shows up with a vengeance in the run game, and doesn't do anything to hurt you in the passing game. If he can run a 4.5+ at the combine (unlikely), he could be this year's Ball State phenomenon... SLIGHTLY POSITIVE

Dan Mozes 603.0 290 N/A OG : PLaying center. Nice shot gun snapper. Very quick off the snap... I was very impressed with the fact that even though he is handling the ball he is up and into his blocks as fast at the OGs next to him. Drive blocks well, recoils well enough in pass pro too. Could be a first day guy next year. POSITIVE

I find it amazing that a team as good as WVU has so few pro prospects.

I loved what Mike Lorello does on the field I just fear his measurables might push him to rd. 6-7 or even UDFA status, I thought some of the WVU linemen are at least day 2 prospects:
#99 DT Ernest Hunter- 603.4 299 He was a DE earlier in his career and it shows he is raw, he gets too high and lets his base get too narrow, but a player so new to the position he has good strength and quickness. He is a project but I hear a 4.92 or faster 40 might be possible he could be a day 2 prospect.

#49 TE Josh Bailey- 605.2 274 4.86 I believe he's a better prospect than Becht was and though he's no sprinter, and he's no where close to being as smooth as Heath Miller, he's a solid Cleeland-type all-around TE. Could be a real steal in round 6.

#15 CB 510.5 196 4.47 Dee McCann spent last year backing up Adam Jones and also has the ability to run well and has good cover skills but is a more physical presence he can tackle, he had a storied JuCo career at Jones County JC in MS I think a good pro day puts him perhaps as high as the 4/5th rd.

#26 CB/FS 4.51 Anthony Mims a larger Corner whose 41.5 inch vertical leap makes him perfect for tall WRs, his ball skills and playing intellect are above average reminds me of Anthony Henry. A day 2 prospect. May find home at nickel or FS.
Garin Justice and Travis Garrett are rangy OTs that need 20-30 lbs of muscle and polishing but should be invited to a pro camp.
This a team that will be better next year they are young at all but 2-3 positions. Look out Big East! ohmy.gif

jwest,

The Announcers were actually discussing that same topic, and remarked how odd it was!

It made me feel good that we had not named more of these guys as PPs

BCdrama,

That having been said, Mims and Hunter looked pretty good. I'll keep an eye on those two.

I know we usually don't like to look to far ahead at guys that aren't draft eligable but how about Owen Schmitt? This kid is the next Cory Schlesinger with the way he approachs the FB position. They even showed one of his facemask from last week and it was all bent up just like Sledge's are after a game. He has good hands, decent speed for a FB, and blocks like a FB is suppose to block. He will be a welcome fit to any team in the 2008 draft if he keeps this up.

Oh yea, Schmitt is on my radar screen...

And he has a little quickness too, he's like Matt Berstein without the bells and whistles. wink.gif
