Bruce was back and I FINALLY got to see him play this year. He played very well and missed only a few passes as he led his team from a slight early deficit back into contention for the MAC Championship over a gritty effort by Frank Solich's Bobcats.
SCOUTING SUMMARY:
Bruce Gradkowski, #7, QB, 602.0, 204: Bruce is a master of the short game. he is completing 65% of his passes this year and has a very nice TD/int ratio, but what really stands out is his footwork. The guy is so technically sound the way he runs all the plays. My only concerns with Bruce are his ability to absorb the punishment at the next level with his slight stature and weight (not his toughness--that has NEVER been in doubt) and his lack of a deep-ball resume. He threw only 4 passes over 20 yards last night, and completed one--a 31-yarder in the 4th quarter. That is Bruce's game, and he is in complete control of the ball-control passing offense that Toledo employs. In case you hadn't noticed, that is the style that the Patriots have won 3 of 4 Super Bowls with, so his lack of a deep ball element in his game may not bother any pro scouts. POSITVE
Antonio Malone, # 30, CB, 511.0, 185: Was never tested once in the passing game which was a HUGE disappointment to me because I wanted to see his ball skills, closing speed, etc. He came up and filled nicely on running plays a couple of times and I got to see his vertical once on a ball at the sidelines which was overthrown, but I did not get a chance to really make any judgements on him. INCOMPLETE
Anthony Jordan, #40, LB, 603.0, 240: 70 tackles and 7 TFLs to the lead the Rockets coming in, and he played well again. This guy is a sleeper--pure and simple. He diagnoses and sheds very well, he has the "eye candy" factor, and he doesn't look too stiff in the passing protection for the MLB slot. I'd love to know his true 40, and find out if he is a legit 6'3", but I already can see he is a decent football player who BETTER be drafted, because he deserves to be. POSITVE
Others: #38 RB Trinity Dawson had 29 carries for 166 yards (by my count) for Toledo, and shows a real nice burst. He is a senior (5'10", 202) and has about 800+ yards on the season now. He will be a UDFA and deserves to be in the database.
CB Dion Byrum of Ohio (#15, 5'11", 192) is leading the nation in defensive TDs (3) and interceptions (6) and HE WILL BE DRAFTED. Needs a writeup. He had a very nice interception in the endzone on the only play that Toledo decided to test him on ALL NIGHT.
Jr. LB #50 Matt Muncy is a name to remember for next year for sure. He had 66/39, 7 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, 1 int., 5 PDs, 1 QBH, 2 FRs and 1 FF coming in and played big again last night. I had him for 10 total tackles. He has marginal size (6'2", 234) but plays with PASSION.
