I guess it is customary to post here. I found this on an MSN search after the site was recommended to me by a co-worker. Looks like a good operation here. I'm interested in learning more and hopefully filling dead time on the boards.

What do you do? Are you a scout for an AFL team? or do you spend your freetime scouting players in the AFL for the Draft?

Welcome AFL,
Hope you enjoy the site.
If you ARE a scout, send me a PM. I can offer you something quite helpful.
If you aren't...you're still welcomed JUST AS MUCH! Glad you found us, man.

JGleas,
I scout college and semi-pro football for the AFL. We also look at NFL preseaon and training camps.

AFL,
What team to you scout for?
Check out Mike Lloyd. He has a video highlight clip linked in his forum under "Communicate with Your Favorite 2006 Pro Prospects," a detailed writeup, etc.
He's had two pretty good AFL tryouts, but they both want him to play OG as well as his natural position of DE. He may be signed soon, but if not I'll give you a number to call for him.

I scout for the actual League. Its a common thing in the AFL since there are so few teams and we often have league wide workouts.
I would compare it to the BLESTO/National scouts for the NFL Draft.

Which team do you scout for? The AFL sure has come a long way now that they have that TV deal from NBC. I actually enjoyed watching it last year, kept me entertained throughout the summer.

The entire league, not any certain team.

How difficult is it to scout the semi-pro leagues? I don't know how many different semi-pro leagues there are, but I would guess it has to be pretty difficult to scout them. At least with college players, there are plenty of resources for a scout.

Scouting semi-pro is almost a word of mouth system. You hear about a guy doing well, go see what he's got, but its not very dependable. Mostly guys that could have played college ball, but didn't have the motivation to make the grades or had family/financial problems.

Ah very cool man! Do you get a particular college degree to become a scout?

I actually have a law degree. I passed the LSAT and got my JD from Duke.
Patriot, I was gone all day on business. I'll get caught up with you soon.

Jeese, Duke is a great school too. Why did you give up being a lawyer for being a scout? Plus, what you think of Duke's chances at the NCAA title this year?(basketball that is)

I went to Law School because I thought I wanted to be an agent. That was wrong. I have too much of a conscience to be an agent.
I have a strong passion for the game, a good eye for talent and I'd love to be a General Manager soon. A law degree just made sense.
