How about the Bears canning there leader on offense for the whole year after he messed up on one pass and then they put back in Grossman and they ended up winning to a powerless Falcons team, Grossman has been out all year while Orton's stats are good for being a rookie third string RAT 59.9 | YDS 1,810 | TD 9 leading the Bears to a stunning 10-4 with a pro-bowl defense.
The Vikings got there court stuff out of the way and still lost to the Steelers, the players that got fined aren't playing or they aren't producing, and the Vikings need to get through to the linemen, to move after the snap. It's embarresing to have that many penalties, and by rookies. The Vikings aren't gonna make the playoffs by making dumb mistakes, and not cause turnovers, and pressure.

ummmm did you see the Grossman play the other night. He looked great they actually had a threat through the air, and actually had an offense. Orton managed the game nicely for a rookie, but to get to the next step and become a superbowl caliber team you need something else,

Orton will be the future of this franchise. Grossman had a nice game, but you'd really have to stretch to find things about him that you like better than Orton. Orton has far more intangibles than Grossman, even if Grossman is better eye candy.

Grossman brought excitement to the fans, and lifted the Bears in that game. He's their starter until he loses it.

I did not want to see Orton get benched for the unknown Grossman but you have to admit after the last game + the Bears are better on offense. The real question is will it last?

There's no question that Grossman is the "sexier" QB, but I wouldn't damage the psyche of a guy who has brought them to amazing heights as a rookie even to marginally improve the offense this late in the year. Grossman has a proven history of fragility and Orton now has a decent track record as a potential solid NFL starter for a long time to come. He can only get better. Grossman could get better too, but I think that one of these guys will need to be dealt in the off-season. For my money I'd keep Orton.

Someone like the Pats might give a spare 3rd and 4th for Grossman?

I agree 100%, this is going to hurt Orton's developement and one of them needs to go. Orton or the guy who injures himself getting out of bed.

I am a die hard Vikings fan and this has been one of the roughest years I remember. The Vikings have some play makers on this team, but they also have some underachievers that are not committed during the off-season. Even though they had a nice win streak, it was mostly smoke and mirrors.

I do like the new ownership and firmly believe he will bring class back to the organization. Red McCombs was the worst thing that ever happened to the Vikings. His cheapness had a direct impact on the product that showed up on Sundays. With Red gone and standards put in place, I think this team could be in a position to be formidable next year.

Some changes needed:

Better team discipline on and off the field (players need to be held accountable for their actions)

Coaching staff shake up (Tice needs to go, Cottrell should stay if possible)

Aggressive in free agency, no more saving for a rainy day like McCombs

Acquire players with professional attitudes (the Fred Smoot’s of the world need not apply)

Try to improve player focus during the off-season

Improve player development (The Vikings have drafted great talent, but the players are not developing as they should)

As for the Bears, I am really impressed with the team unity they possess. They all seem to compliment each other. I also love the return of smash mouth defense and the Bears are the best. The bear’s defense will punch you in the face all day long.

I know as a Vikings fan I am not supposed to like the Bears, but you can’t help but respect the way they punish people on defense. I am a huge fan of defense and I would rather see a team that wins with defense than a high flying circus act offense.

All of the great Vikings teams of the 70’s and 80’s used to win with a punishing defense and I hope they will return to their roots soon.

Kinda glad to see someone else seeing potential in Orton.

Grossman really hasn't shown me all that much. The 'TEAM' may like him more - since he's been around 3 years. But all and all, his performance isn't awe inspiring.
But Chicago saw him go downfield twice, the MIDDLE, where Orton was never allowed to because of coverage. (If you ever watch Orton's games, his long passes were always to the sidelines - not the easiest throw to make, but safe usually.)

I think Orton reach a limit of learning as a ROOKIE. And with a merry-go-round at WR/TE, he really couldn't develop with the guys he threw to anymore.
(Bradley went down, Berrian finally got healthy in Pittsburgh, Wade got cut...)

Muhsin Muhammad is also NOT as good as ADVERTISED. He also seems to take sides at QB and that had a negative effect on the Offense as a whole.

With the WIN now mentality in the NFL, it had to be interesting for Orton. More often than not, he was probably told:
1) Don't turn the ball over (so don't ever force passes into coverage)
2) Throw the ball away if it isn't there
3) If you can't read the Defense quickly downfield, check it down or eat it
4) We have a great Defense, let them get you field position
5) Don't lose games for us, and be cautious in trying to win games - you're a 4th round pick AND our 1st round pick is coming back. (Unsaid, but true)

Ron Turner's offense (And Grossman liked to say he INSTALLED IT in OTAs) was limited by a Rookie for sure, but also designed for a different QB. The Shotgun was non-existent. (And in 3rd and LONG, the BEARS never put Orton in it. Which to me seemed stupid...at least SOME of time they should have put him in it.)

Orton hopefully will develop, work out things he does need improving on, and I think can become a decent QB for quite awhile.

Lastly, THE CHICAGO MEDIA selected GROSSMAN as the franchise QB. To hear the radio, watch "REX-N-EFFECT" on Comcast or other post game wraps, Orton was terrible every game and Grossman is a TOP 5 QB, RIGHT NOW. Neither is telling anything of the complete truth.

Orton: Has alot to learn, but showed potential - he's 23... 3 years from now, he could be very dangerous...in the RIGHT offense for his abilities.

Grossman: Had better STAY on the field, and throw more TDs before giving him a BUST in Canton.

Maybe the Raiders could trade Collins for Orton straight up. The Bears could keep their "sexy" qb and get a solid veteran backup and the Raiders could finally get a young talented qb. It's a long shot but I can still dream. Oops, I forgot that Davis is still alive and Orton's under 40. Too bad!
