I'm not sure but this makes sense to me, The Texans have given Domanick Davis a 21 million dollar extension, picked up the 8 million dollar on Carr which says these are the guys they want in the future. So why draft Reggie Bush. Yes, he's the best player coming out but a team should never draft on want, only draft what you need and whose to say he's the next Gail Sayers. He could very well turn into Archie Griffin. They have one playmaker in the secondary in Dunta Robinson. phillip Buchanon has ont produced since he left Miami. I for one never liked Marcus Coleman and at safety he is terrible. They let Jamie Sharper go leaving them with no names at linebacker. The 3-4 defense cant work when you are not drafting the right personnel. The holes on the offensive side are not as bad but still needs to improved. Jabar Gaffney has not lived up to expectation and has made hisself the number 3 reciever. Which means a no. 2 is needed! Offensive line we all know how that goes! So what makes since to me is............. The Texans should trade down to the No.4 pick and Draft Ferguson. The Jets need to desperatly replace Curtis Martin. They could draft a qb in the later rounds there are alot out there. In return the Texans recieve the Jets 2nd and 3rd round picks which will help fill those holes. 1st rd- Ferguson, 2nd rd-Taitusi Lutui, 2nd rd- a cb such as Antonio Cromartie, Ashton Youboty, Charles Gordon. 3rd rd-Kai Parham, 3rd- Pat Watkins, 3rd rd- Mike Haas 3rd rd-Dominique Byrd or Davis Thomas. Let me know if this is irrational!
jwest
Completely rational. If the Texans draft Bush or Young and don't take advantage of the depth at offensive line in this draft, then Gary Kubiak will find it very hard to get anything done.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Politics negotiate this pick, not need. Ferguson will not put fans in the stands.

Davis is right on this one. Especially with all the depth of O-linemen in this draft. They will definitely take Bush, Young, or Leinart. It wouldn't make sense for them to take O-lineman there. They need to bring in fans, and Kubiak has been in Denver (where the find diamonds in the rough all the time as far as O-line is concerned) for the last however many years.
jw1284
I understand that they want to put fans in the stands but without protection and consistent losing seasons that are sure to continue, its not going to be too long before the mistake of drafting want over need comes into play. If you draft and load up the depth chart winning will occur and fans will stay. Winning will put more fans in the stands!

Hey jw,

Also remember that Domanick Davis has not yet played a full season for the Texans. He will also be coming off of knee surgery, and may not be ready for the season opener. I also understand your point but, the potential that Bush has makes him pretty much impossible to pass up. IMHO

We also have free agency to consider. There are quality players at every need position that the Texans have. There are also a few star players, and we may be able to grab 1 or 2. I also completely agree with you about Buchanon. That dude is not good. The Texans are moving to a 4-3 possibly a hybrid 3-4, 4-3. And the players on the roster with a few tweeks should fit in fine. I really think Kubiak will draw some pretty big names to the Texans. Everyone in Denver loved the guy and players talk, so IMHO more players than not will want to play in Houston.

Your thinking is very rational, and I even liked alot of those picks. I personally see this happening.

1st- Reggie Bush, RB
2nd- Daryn College, OT
3rd a- Davin Joseph, OG
3rd b- Eric Henderson, DE
4th- David Thomas, TE
5th- Aaron Gipson, CB
6th- Justin London, ILB
7th- Jaxson Appel, S

This just my opinion and I personally feel that the Texans will at least find a CB and a 4-3 DE in free agency. That could realy change what they go for on draft day.

Oh one last thing. I completely share in your concern. I am a die hard fan of the Texans and I want to see them win. I am not totaly against trading the pick, I just don't think we need to.
jw1284
I see where ur coming from and i like ur seventh round pick, I have always thought highly of Jaxson and that would be a steal in the seventh round. I thought the texans should have drafted or signed Ernest Shazor last year, despite all question marks around him i think an all-american should at least get a shot, look at Phillip Buchanon, he was drafted in the first round!!!! Let's not forget Jaxson was in Adrain Petersen's grill two years ago when everybody thought Petersen could not be shut down! I would rather see the texans draft a cornerback on the first day, but overall i like where your going with your selections.

The unwritten rule of you can't pass on Reggie Bush applies here. It makes absolutely perfect sense to trade down and it seems like D-Brick was sent from the heavens to be the Texans LT. But, you just can't pass on a guy who has the POTENTIAL to develop into the most exciting player in the game.

Imagine what it would be like to see Reggie Bush dominate the way he did at USC for the Jets? And to know that you passed on him.

A once-in-a-lifetime chance here for the Texans, and I don't see ANY reason why he won't be everything they expect in Houston down the line...

I like it or they draft Bush and trade for more picks, money, and or guys.

I understand where you are coming from but let's not forget the draft of 2001 when the Chargers were called idiots for trading the No. 1 Pick with the Falcons. In return they got the best RB in the league today and a solid QB in Drew Brees, though it took him awhile he has been solid the last couple of years. I knew then as i know now that the Chargers got the better of the deal. Having the best RB in the league who still has 6 to 8 more decent years left in him is worth more than Mike Vick!

How many playoff games have the Chargers won since that trade? The same amount as I have. And LT may have 6-8 years left but Vick may have 8-10 years left. No team is kicking themselves in the foot over that trade.

That is a good point about the Chargers.

However, a RB transition is usually easier than the QB transition, which makes Bush less of a risk than Vick was...

True the Chargers have not won any playoff games but when its all said and done they will have gotten the better of that trade!

Honestly, I think that the O-line is much more important tan drafting a DB on the first day. And I don't know if you have read any of my other posts but I typically defend the Texans O-line as not being as terrible as they looked(which they were not). That being said they need O-Line much worse than DB.That was why I waited till RD5 before taking a shot on a guy that actually appears to have really good upside in Aaron Gipson.

And I whole heartedly agree with the unwritten rule of you can't pass on Bush.
