ramsdraft1029
DA Rams , i will do the same thing as jwest .

QB, The rams now have 5 QBs on there full roster . 1st is The starter Bulger who if not injured is a top 7 QB and can lead the rams into the playoffs even though i do not think that will happen . Next is the back up Gus Ferotte , who if bulger goes down is a great back up and can help the rams alot if needed . Now the 3rd spot will most likly go to dave ragone who the rams just picked up from CINNCI . Others are fitzpatrick and smoker

RB- If mashall faulk retires the rams will be in trouble at this positions . Steven jackson will be starting but after that nobody , Former packer tony fisher will be the main backup if no faulk .

WR- The rams have been blessed with a strong WR core for the past 7 years now 1/2 of it is droping like a rock . Yes ill say it Bruce is getting old but there is hope , KEVIN CURTIS , this guy i think should of been starting last year and now he is sharing the role with bruce . Curtis is fast and with Torry Holt should be awsome .

FB- Madison hedgecock was a surpise pick in the 6th round and turned out to be a top pick for the rams last year. He is not great but he gets the job done .

TE - the rams in my mind did a good job with the TE job in the drafted by taking two . Klopfenstein will start and Byrd will be the backup with possible upset . None are great blockers so expect the rams to pick up a blocking TE now or next year .

OL - I will do one thing for the Ol . Pace and Barron were great together last year and the rest of the line will benefit from that . C andy mcCollum is a solid center as is Adam Timmermen at RG but Claude terrell is a disapoint ment and is the weak spot at the OL

Defense and weakspots and draft picks coming soon . cool.gif

Possible records 10-6 to 6-10
jwest
Do you see the TEs (Klop and Byrd) being on the field at the same time, or will they spell each other? Do you think they'll be used a lot in the passing game?
ramsdraft1029
It depends but both will be used equal time
ramsdraft1029
Klop will start

COLTS TONIGHT!!!
jwest
I think Klop will hold off Byrd for the most part, as I see him being the more complete TE.
ramsdraft1029
yep , and also out of camp 7th round pick mark setterstrom ,spelling , is impressing alot of people and now is 2nd on the depth chart in LG .
This is the 2nd strait year that late roound picks have helped the rams.
martino_cappachino
I was impressed with the Rams defense for most of the game.. I thought they'd be switching to more of a 3-4 scheme though, did they use any during the game, I only watched the 2nd half?
i dont think they will , they have more depth at DT then LB. But i that the mvp was fitzpatrick . I was impressed by DE adeyru SPELLING . He was there 4th round pick out of indiana .
jwest
Victor Adeyanju was a real nice pick for the Rams. He was a guy I was very high on coming into the draft and thought he could be a first day guy. He'll fit in nicely in a rotation with Leonard Little and Tony Hargrove. If Jimmy Kennedy can ever get his game in gear, the Rams will have a very nice front four (with Claude Wroten in the mix as well).
aaron walker has taken over the #2 tight ends over there 3rd round pick
ramsdraft1029
Looks like the rams might surprise some people this year .
Asteinebach
Not me. I've been behind St. Louis to win the NFC West all year. I believe they've made tremendous strides defensively, and adding Tye Hill was a great move in the draft. I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the Division Championship, and depending on how things fall into place, maybe as far as the Conference. I don't, however, think that they are Super Bowl caliber this year. It will be very tough for them to get past Chicago and Philadelphia in the playoffs.

Phily is overrated, the Bucs just beat them and they did so by shutting down McNabb and the rest of the Eagle offense. the Bucs had almost no offense in this game and still won. the Giants are the other team to beat in the NFC (Chicago being the first team to beat)

RAMS FANS- what are your top needs this offseason???
Guest
ilb,olb,dt,s,og,c,wr only a few
ramsdraft1029
Hey i fell asleep for about 5 weeks but if the rams win sunday, giants ,falcons, panthers lose were in . OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i dont like our chances though
gpngc
Haha. I don't like your chances either.

You can always hope, though.

Ramsdraft, welcome back- what do you list as the top needs for the Rams this offseason?
Bucky
[size=3]Nine times this year, the Rams gave up more than 100 yards to an opponents running back. I think that proven weakness against the run will be the focus of their efforts in 2007. If they stay with a 4-3 and that is not certain with Haslett's background, they will probably try to find a NT and a DE in free agency. Jimmy Kennedy and Brandon Green just did not get it done this year.

In the draft they will probably go BPA with ILB, OLB, and SS help needed.
ramsdraft1029
Let me say that Patrick willis is this years tye hill for me. If the rams dont get him ...i will....just give up. But this is my draft lay out.

Rounds
1.LB......Patrick lewis

2.DT

3.DE or WR

4.DE or WR
5.S
6.OG
7.DT or DE
ramchise
ramsdraft, I like all your knowledge on the Rams!

I will be very involved in this forum from now on....

GO RAMS!!! cool.gif

8- Cornerback

How did Witherspoon work out at MLB? Would you say MLB or OLB is your greatest need?
martino_cappachino
I believe Witherspoon played well, I think it's OLB the Rams need most.
ramchise
Hey guys thanks for the questions... rolleyes.gif

Will Witherspoon played just fine at the MLB position. He came in a close second for the team's defensive MVP to DE Leonard Little who came up in the clutch constantly.

Its a tie between outside linebacker and defensive tackle for our greatest need. What we really need is a sloppy big defensive lineman in the middle. That will help guys like Witherspoon to have room to make plays.
ramsdraft1029
Welcome, Its fun to see other Rams fans on this site and you can post here as many times as you like. I so agree with you. Alot of people see the rams picking a DT in the 1st round but i like Patrick willis alot and i dont want another Jimmy Kennedy pick. I think like last year we can trade down a couple of spots to get willis . Although the panthers seem to like him.
I am also big on that DT from Louisville.
Some Questions
1.Will Okoye need to delvelope first for a year or will he be ready to start?
2.If we pass on LB do you tink we could trade far down and get another second round pick from the pats or some high pick team.
3.Who are some of the front runners for curtis?

ramsdraft1029, good questions cool.gif

1. If we draft him, it all depends on what the Rams do in the FA pool. I really think the Rams are going to be aggressive in getting a powerful run stopper. One guy that seems logical in a sence is Terdell Sands, an unrestricted free agent from Oakland. Not nessesarily expensive, but good.

2. Once again, it all depends on what happens Free Agency. I really don't see us trading down for a player unless it's a WR. Two WRs that come to mind are Ted Ginn or Sidney Rice. But if our defensive needs aren't met in FA then I see us taking a defensive prospect in the first round. Then later on we can pick a guy like Ryne Robinson from Miami of Ohio or Steve Breaston from Michigan to help with the WR depth and kick returns.

3. I don't really think there are any right now. We will just have to wait to see what Curtis and McDonald decide to do.

Your right about the Jimmy Kennedy thing. Bust after bust we just cannot seem to grasp a good DT in the first round. I believe the Rams will play it safe and find a proven one in free agency.
AxisMundi
Contract talks are underway with Bulger and Curtis. Curtis wants to be a starter and is as good as gone.

If we did get Okoye I think he would definitely be the opening day starter over Wroten and Glover.

QUOTE

Witherspoon was our best defensive player aside from Little. He did wear down as the season went on, probably because of the lack of protection provided by our defensive tackles and this being his first full year at the position.

The Strongside linebacker spot is the greatest need as far as linebackers go. Chillar plays soft, can't cover tightends, doesn't make plays and shouldn't be a starter.
ramsdraft1029
I would love Pat. willis at strong side or swicth witherspoon.
gpngc
Great stuff, Ramsfans...

I personally think Patrick Willis is the right guy for St. Louis. Okoye wouldn't be a bad either.

One question: How did La'Roi Glover pan out? Bust? What does Wroten look like? A bust, too? The run defense was pretty poor last year...
ramsdraft1029
Well all i can tell u GP is that laroi was a big bust in terms that he just coud not stop the run,was an ok pass rusher and got som sacks but was not good enough for my standerds. Wroten got little if any playing time, but rams fans think he could be the future UT. Thanks for the Q GP.
gpngc
Where does the team seem to be leaning in terms of free agents? Re-signing the two young WR's McDonald and Curtis? Or letting them walk?

And one more question: Will Tye Hill take over for FA CB Travis Fisher, or is he not ready to start yet?

I hate to make it sound like the NCAA, but the Rams could be returning 21 starters (not that that's a good thing for the defense), and might be a surprise team next year.

My needs for them at this point are:
SLB
DT
CB
SS
WR
DE
P

How does that look, Rams fans?
ramsdraft1029
To answer ure questions gp,

1.They want curtis back but can not promise him playing time,it looks like mcdolald is going to walk, plus i dont think they want him.He can delvelope into a great WR. But they have this WR dom. tompson that was on their practice squad but can be their 4th WR or even there 3rd. We could draft one but i think we need to focus on that front 7.

2.Ty hill took over the corner back spot at mid season and fisher got injured and is very unpopuler with fans. So the fans dont want fisher back.Ty hill was good in that spot and shows good talent and a bright future.

3.I know they are one good draft from the playoffs.

4.I have talked about this before but jackson wants another back to lighten the load so beilive it or not RB might b a 3rd or 4th round need. Im hoping pittmans or hunts stock falls to the 4th so we can use them as a marion barber type.

My order for needs,i see them going safty next year,or WR

1.OLB or DT
2OLB or DT
3.DE
4.WR
5.RB
6.CB
7.SS

Hope that answers your questions
AxisMundi
2. Yep Tye Hill will go into next season as the starting LCB. There hasn't been any interest in bringing Fisher back and he's been visiting with other teams(Titans, Redskins).

With the addition of Drew Bennett...I'd say:

NT
SLB
DE(Hall missed time the past 2 seasons due to injuries and both he and Leonard Little are at least 30 years old.)
RB
CB
AxisMundi
Just some tidbits...Robaire Smith is coming in for a visit tomorrow..

..Travis Minor was signed to a 1 year deal could be our KR or just a camp body...

BYU QB John Beck has a personal workout scheduled with the Rams.
AxisMundi
Signed TE Randy McMichael to a 3 year/$3mil contract...

...Also signed a backup S from the Bears Todd Johnson. I hear he's a hard hitter, good special teams guy. Great depth at Safety...

One sh#tbyrd for another sh#tbird. Man, there statrting to look like the bengals.LOL
ramsdraft1029
i personaly like this move, only because this MAXIMIZES their offense, also i dont have the link but they just sign the safty from chi. cant think of the name.

i like hiw the rams are narrowing down their draft options and i dont know who they will tkake in the later rounds,so far here is my draft

1.DT,okoye ofr pat willis.
2.olb or dt,i like herrell and pitcock
3.RB, hunt or pittman
4.although i here reports on beck i see them going ot
5.TE,JK.............OG depth
6.LB depth
ramsdraft1029
The rams disapointed e this year, It was a disapoint to me. The middle rounds did not impress me. There were alot of big names that fell and we took unknown upside prospects.
ramsdraft1029
I have changed my mind on there draft this year. Great pick with carricker and exspect him to be the starting NT around week 4.

Leonard: Jersey guy, enough said

Wade will develope into a good CB, has the skills just needs work, will be there 4th CB behind ron bartell and with grab the nickel slot next year

Fry: Will grow into there center years from now but will be a 3rd center behind
Romburg
Mcollum, But can back up at guard, Good pick

Keith Jakson. Big run stiffer is what the rams needed and what they got. He has impressed in camp so far....

Drew Tate; UFA with the most credability will compete with Fitzpatrick for the third spot. Gotta love fitz with this one. Tate could land on PSq.

These our the only people with a hance to make the team.

Camp notes

Last years 5th Hagens from virginia looks like he can beat out looker for the 5th WR role. Looker holds for wilkins though.

DT Preveiw
Sporting news has ranked the DTs of the St. louis rams DEAD LAST in their preveiw.
I have to disagree. Even though they deserve to be in the bottem 5 not dead last

NT: Adam Carricker
Jimmy Kennedy
Keith jackson

UT: Laroi Glover
Claude Wroten

Some upside in that young group. Besides glover offcourse. Clould be his final year.
ramsdraft1029
Draft Re view, Due by popular demand ....cough

Carricker: Was degusted when the pick was announced because i thought of him as a run stuffer DE. but the rams will move him to the DT spot. Most likly NT. Good pickup. He is looking like A true nose type.

Rams stilll in the running for sam adams

Leonard: This is the thing. Im high on this guy. The only reason is because,,,,,im from jersey and have season tickets to RU games. This guy is great. He should have no problem going from a fb to a rb. I hope the rams use him alot.

Wade: A real risk , He was not a true CB . He was a fast guy with the skills to become a fast CB. Will be the forth CB and next year will be in the nickel.

On each team you need a fast flashy corner and a slower shutdown one.

Hill Brown
wade

We need a shutdown corner in the future to replace brown.

Other nice picks

I did not like the guys the rams chose besides

Keith jackson. Hope he make s the team because we can delvelope him into a big runstuffer to backup carrricker and have a nice DT rotation.

DE preview

Sporting news gave the rams i beleive the 8th best DEs in the nfc.
Lenard little is a monster on the pass and james hall is not bad.

Bucky
I loved the Carriker pick, felt he was a top ten player. My biggest fear was that Buffalo would get Willis, the Niners would get Carriker and the Rams would get Revis or something.

I don't like Carriker as NT. He has too much speed. I like him best as a run stuffing DE playing opposite Little. It would be great if they could go strong side, weak side but they seem more interested in playing him at tackle. I don't know what to make of the tackle situation. I think Kennedy gets much more blame than he deserves. I liked Wroten in college but he showed nothing last year. Glover is steady but is clearly not a long term answer. I love the Jackson pick, think he will be gold at NT. I don't know what to make of Ryan. He went from LB to DE to T and is projected as a NT by the RAMS. He needs a lot of work.

I thought the number 2 RB was a critical position. I could not find one I liked. I am not wild about Leonord but I think the Rams could run an offense with him at running back. They would throw a lot more but he is a hard runner who could keep defenses honest and he can catch the ball.

I don't know about Wade. I hope he doesn't have to play much this year, can work on his fundamentals and become a starter in a year or two.

I thought Fry looked awful at the Senior Bowl.

I don't think Shakleford will beat out Strojny or Parquet.

I have almost no hope for Stanley based on what I read. He is a division 3 player who is too small. However, the Rams must have seen something in him.

Asteinebach
It's those Division III Players who are "too small" that always work out the best, when they have the heart and courage to play bigger than their size. Besides, a smaller more compact player has a longer life-span in the NFL.

Carriker was a great pick, but with Leonard Little, James Hall, and him now on roster, they will likely start him off in a rotation. Which will be ideal for him, because they'll only use him in situations which he'll benefit from. He'll eventually succeed the overpriced Leonard Little, or the aging James Hall. I don't see him moving to the nose.

And as for Brian Leonard, man, I wish the Lions had picked him up. He's going to be a star in the NFL. He's a big, powerful runner who can also catch the ball and make something after the catch. No 1 tackler in the NFL will take him down with ease. The rotation of him and Steven Jackson should absolutely pound defenses into submission by the 4th quarter, and thus open up the already very dangerous passing game with play actions.

All in all, I know that the Rams had a great day one, but I'm uncertain as well about their day two.
ramsdraft1029
Their day two was the worst.

But i notice during the draft that small scholl names got picked early and big names like blades and siler fell
Asteinebach
Interesting how that happens, isn't it? My guess is that people read CDS and figured it out. wink.gif
ramsdraft1029
I think that th ams will be tjhe Favs to win the west this year.

Alexander is getting old. Plus their drafts in recent years have been unproductive besides lofa.

49ners need a few good defenders to make a splash
but still are sleepers
Asteinebach
To be the best, you have to beat the best. Right now, the Seahawks are the best. Alexander still has 5 good seasons of 1000+ rushing left in him. I think the team that wins the west is the team that can beat Seattle in both games. My money is staying with San Fran this year.
ramsdraft1029
San fran needs a DT or a dE, No line. Not mutch of a WR core.
Rams are a favorite in my book, and that is not just because of the fact that im a rams fan.
nyyjones
Right now, on paper, I like the Rams too, ramsdraft. I do think SF will do much better than people think. I like their coach the best in that division too.
ramsdraft1029
