What are your opinions of what the Dolphins 07 draft pick should be?

Is David Boston anything other than a freakshow for the Fins?

hard to say because I have no idea where we will be picking but hopefully it will be after #22 (which means they make the playoffs). but I would like a LB to start opposite Crowder. Lamorr Woodley or H.B. Blades are my favorites

David Boston is on the Bucs but I can tell you that he is looking to be a nice 3rd WR for TB. I think he is there to stay, he always has been talented but has been injury plagued

What's the status on Ricky Williams?

What's the status on Ricky Williams?

we expect him back on the team next year, right now he's injured and out a few weeks in the CFL but he will be fine. he's obviously not made out for the CFL though

I'd like to know whether you guys think Culpepper or Harrington is the QB of the future for Miami and by future I'm talking next five or so years. I don't like what I've seen from Culpepper and he definitely doesn't handle pressure well. I predict we put him on IR for the rest of the season and next year he will have a chance in an open competition with Harrington to win the starting job. I like what I've seen so far from Harrington and the next two weeks he certainly has the chance to keep the starting job with good games. Lemon is a wild card also
gpngc
Well, by actually mentioning Cleo Lemon in a discussion about your teams QB of the future I think pretty much shows you the state of the situation...

For this year- stick with Harrington. Your team is hot now, and they could definitely make another great 2nd half run. If they compete for the playoffs, that would be great, but I wouldn't look too far into it in terms of Harrington as a starter...

Culpepper needs to get healthy. I've never been a huge fan, but I think the Dolphins will stick with him, and I think they believe they can contend if he's healthy. I don't really like him there, but I don't think they'll go another direction.

I really like Joey Harrington as a back-up. I don't know. I just do. But as a starter, no. Even if he wins some, he's just not who you want as your franchise guy. He's never played in a playoff game either, and I don't have confidence he can lead or manage a team in an important game. He's never even played in real important games in his career.

I may be wrong, but I think they're just waiting on Culpepper. That's it. I'd like to see them draft a young guy to groom, and I think there is a chance they do that. They won't be picking high enough for Quinn, so even though I'm not that high on Pep, I can't argue with passing on a 1st rd. QB this year... You want a complete shot in the dark: Troy Smith in rd. 2...
QuietStorm
I've never liked Culpepper, I always found him to be an extremely overrated player though I do have respect for him; he throws a very nice deep ball. I did like the signing of Culpepper because I thought he could create Moss-esque magic with Chris Chambers, who is a fantastic receiver, though underachieving this year. However, with the money they spent in Culpepper, they need to stay with this guy. Harrington is it right now, with Culpepper having another surgery. They can't abandon Culpepper because of this year, they need to see him completely healthy and then make a move. I do think they need to hang out to Harrington though. He's proven he can play in this league, on that team, and he could be of great service to them even when Culpepper is healthy. If they have to start next season without Culpepper for some reason, Harrington is a good guy to keep around who is by now already comfortable with the system and actually getting the job done down there.
nick1
I know I'm ready for us to draft a QB high, we haven't done so since Marino. we keep messing around with other teams garbage. although if we can get Matt Schuab I would be happy
fobbe
I think Brohm will probably slip and be available for the Dolphins. You have a strong stable of receivers and a running game that hopefully will get back on track next year. I do not think Joey Harrington is a long term solution. He is serviceable but not every week starter. He has provided a spark but they are also throwing 35 times a game lately. Granted he had a great game going back to Detroit, but lets face it, the Detroit Lions aren't exactly a defensive powerhouse.

he would be great and I don't think we have any glaring needs to fill instead of going with BPA. we need a OLB but I expect to have a big name signing in FA in that spot, maybe Lance Briggs. we have money next year and will fill any needs in FA, the draft will be for depth proposes and for BPA
nick1
Lemon is coming around, I always knew he had the talent. he could definitely be the next Tony Romo, the guy who comes from nowhere and turns into a good starter

I don't really think Saban is going to leave, maybe I'm in denial because this all seems weird to me but he has denied all reports and seems like a guy on a mission in Miami. if Saban is after money though he is sure to leave.

as for the possible replacements if he does leave, I like Cam Cameron. I definitely would want an NFL guy, I think it's hard to make the switch from college to NFL. who would you suggest?

and yes my name is Nick, I don't like Saban that much
PatriotofMaine
I heard 'Bama was offering obscene amounts, like $25,000,000 over 5 years or something like that...
Guest
the offer reported is 40 million over 8 years which is 5 mill a year. the same amount he is making now
nick1
actually he was offered a 7 year deal for 40 million overall which comes to about 5.7 mill a year. compared to the current contract he has with Miami, the proposal would give him about 1 mill more a year and it would be longer term. the AD of Alabama reportly went to Saban's home to talk to him. Saban should make a decision this week
gpngc
Nick1, what do you make all of this? How can he even be thinking about taking this Alabama job? By doing so, he'll be remembered as a coward who couldn't handle the NFL... why is he even considering it?
nick1
I'm mad at Saban and with good reason he left this team out to dry but the reason he did this was because he is a college coach at heart. he didn't leave because of the money or the contract length, he left because he wasn't successful in the NFL and loves the college game. and also apparently his wife doesn't like the Miami area and wants to live in a smaller town. His wife played a big part in his decision to leave. I am kind of glad that Saban left, his last draft obviously wasn't good and I see that he can't handle an NFL job. the media really annoyed him, this also played into his decision. he obviously shouldn't have been given full control over the team and I hope the new coach doesn't either. thats why we have GMs.

as for replacements the team has to move quickly, I think Dom Capers heads the list because he is already with the team. behind him is Jim Mora Jr, Jim Bates, Cam Cameron and maybe even Bobby Paterno from Louisville who has NFL desires.

I am also glad because the new coach will have an open mind considering the QB situation, the new guy won't have to play Culpepper if he doesn't think he's the answer. I am intrigued by the options at QB for us. if Jim Mora Jr comes I think Matt Schuab is a big possibility or if Dom Capers comes than David Carr or maybe even Leftwich

as for the state of the team next year I don't buy into this thing that we are going to be bad. we have a great coaching staff of assistants and we have a top 10 defense still and with Ronnie and Ricky next year the offense is sure to improve. the way I look at it is we went 6-10 without any offense. so next year when the running game is better and the QB situation will be better off I think we could make a big turn around similiar to when San Deigo went 4-12 and than 12-4 the next year
Guest
the Dolphins need someone to bring some offense to the team, maybe Cam Cameron in the right guy for the job
barrettt
I'm a Bills fan and even though I hate the Dolphins I feel sorry for them. Saban denied the Alabama HC job at least 5/6 times then he ended up bolting to Alabama. But anyways I will feel more sorry for u guys if Mike Mularkey get the HC job.

I would say Cam Cameron would get the job.
But they should give Ken Wisenhunt a interview.
nick1
there are reports that Miami has limited the search to 4 candidates (all of which will be given a 2nd interview early this week) Chan Gailey, Jim Mora jr, Mike Tomlin and Brian Schottenheimer. A coach should be named by Friday at the latest

I really want Brian Schottenheimer, he did a great job with limited talent on the Jets offense
gpngc
Well it looks like Schottenheimer's out of the picture.

If I were you, I'd hope for Chan Gailey or Mike Tomlin rather than Jim Mora Jr....
nick1
update:

Mike Tomlin and Brian Schottenheimer are both out of the running, it is between Mora jr and Chan Gailey. Wayne is going to Georgia today to offer one of them the job, problem is which one? there are conflicting reports some say Mora is being offered the job, others say Gailey is. since they both live in Georgia it is unknown, but we should know as early as later today.

I think it will be Gailey because both Marino and Shula are involved in the search and both support Gailey as the next head coach. I would rather have him because he is an offensive guy who is commited to the run and since Ricky is coming back. I think it is important to run the ball when you have both Ricky and Ronnie especially when the QB position is a big ?
barrettt
Mike Shula is in the running now
nick1
QUOTE(barrettt @ Jan 17 2007, 10:41:53 AM)
Mike Shula is in the running now

it is true that he was given a 2nd interview but any fan of the Dolphins will tell you that he isn't really being considered. this was done as a favor to Don Shula so that his son would get some future looks from other teams and the fact that he interviewed for the job means that he will get more money from Alabama as stated in his buyout.

Cam Cameron has joined the small group who have been given a 2nd interview. if your keeping track this means Gailey, Mora jr, Cameron and Shula are in the small group of coachs given 2nd interviews. If you read between the lines like I have been doing than you know a new coach will be named today. so stay tuned, I will be posting it when the new coach is named
nick1
Cam Cameron is the new Dolphins Head Coach, not a bad hire

Very good. I'm glad for them.
gpngc
So Dolphins fans,

With Cam Cameron on board as the new head coach, where does your team look in the draft? Here's what I've got right now in terms of needs...

LT
DT
CB
SLB
DE
WR
QB

Anything I'm missing? Think QB should be higher? Any word on Culpepper's rehab?
nick1
allow me to bump this thread and update the leatest moves the Dolphins have made

Mare, McMichael, Harrington and Carter are among the more known guys who were cut. Wilkerson was traded for Denver's 6th rounder. Welker was traded for NEs 2nd and 7th rounder. TE David Martin was signed, Joey Porter was signed, Kelly Washington is close to signing. Dante Stalleworth is visiting Miami today and Miami has been trying to trade Chris Chambers. Miami is currently 18 mil under the cap, updated after the Porter signing

now let the discussion resume...

TE could be on the list, OLB should be taken off with the Porter signing. I think QB is higher on the list of needs as I think either Quinn or Stanton will be a Dolphin. Culpepper's a goner, not Cameron's style of QB. he doesn't read defenses well enough for Cameron
gpngc
So how does this look:

QB
LT
DT
TE
CB
DE
WR

looks good to me, I'm not saying we won't go OLB because we could use depth in all areas really but it's not a need

I'm a Bills fan and I am going to hate seeing Joey Porter now in that LB group when it already was one of the top defenses last year.

Why did you guys release Randy McMichael???
I would like to see the Bills pick him up.

it's a head scratcher, I mean I understand that he's inconsistent and that he has had multiple run ins with the law. but he's too talented to just release, we could have traded him for something. rumor is we wanted a 3rd and never got a 3rd round offer. so before he was due his bonus we cut him. he's a good pick-up if you can get him to play consistently

I didn't know he got in trouble a lot. The Bills most likely won't look at him then because they like good character players. I've heard is is inconsistent but he always played good against the Bills.

I think Cam is going to do a lot for you guys. Even though I dislike the Dolphins because of being a Bills fan I hate how Nick Saban walked out. He's a coward. He told the media down there multiple time that he wasn't taking the job at Alabama.

Hey is Malarkey still running the Offense??

yeah McMichael has been arrested like three times, each time for for domestic violence. on one occasion he hit his pregant wife. so as a person he's a real loser... Mularkey is being demoted to being a TE coach, Cameron has said that he will do the playcalling himself
nick1
Jay Feely just signed and he's taking less money then Mare would have. so I see it as a plus

What's the story with the Dolphins? Trading for Trent Green? What will they do at pick #9? Levi Brown, Alan Branch, Leon Hall?

the Trent Green trade talks have gone cold, not sure why maybe with the Falcons recently putting Schuab on the trade block we will go after him. they said they will accept less then a 1st and 3rd so it's worth looking into. I think Schuab will be a good starter one day

as for the draft I'm unsure, Brady Quinn has no chance of dropping anymore so he's out. my thought is we go o-line with Levi Brown
nick1
Mare was just traded to NO for a 6th rounder, so we do have a extra 6th afterall. and in other news Ricky Williams is beginning his reinstatement process into the league. he is reportly in the best shape of his life (although that may just be the media hyping him up)

I was wondering if any of you think that Daunte has any trade value? I just want him gone, he was just another failure at QB since Marino left

Culpepper has very little value in trade. Miami gave up a second that they could never recoup. I just hope they stay away from Green. I am tired of them getting washed up players to come save the franchise. Just move up and take a chance in the draft.

I want Green or Carr, I want to draft a QB as well. see, we need a QB for this next year as well as for the future. I don't trust in Culpepper one bit, but I do trust Green. he's proven thats even at his age he's an effective QB. we have this great defense but we also need an offense to win. I beleive that we can make the playoffs this upcoming year. we just need a managable QB
Asteinebach
And a coach that will hopefully endorse the ground game. No matter what, there's always one simply equation to victory:

Ball control + Managable passing + Solid Defense = Superbowl

I'm not too sure about Green. I am tired of getting injured QB's

So the thinking here is OT Levi Brown in Rd. 1? That's what I think. As for QB, with Carr signed, it looks like Drew Stanton, Troy Smith, Kevin Kolb, or Trent Edwards, right? Of the aforementioned, who has visited with MIA?

out of those? just Drew Stanton and he's the top guy on our list if we don't get Quinn. we may trade up to get Quinn though, our FO loves him. theres a rumor that the Raiders want Culpepper, apparently Al Davis loves the idea of Culpepper and Moss together again. so a trade is possible, if we stay put Levi Brown will be the pick but I have a feeling we trade up to get Quinn as another rumor has the Browns wanting Culpepper
nick1
man oh man there is so much smokescreen in Miami that I can't see. there are rumors still of getting Trent Green, there are rumors of trading up for Brady Quinn, we were reportably in love with Ginn Jr but his stock is down now. alot of mocks have us going with Levi Brown but others with Amobi Okoye or Alan Branch. I can't tell what we will do, there seems to be no player at #9 who can help us on offense. I'm not a big fan of taking OL in round one but we might have to. any opinions on what we do in the draft?
