Im a huge Titans fan since they got Superman.

i dont get to watch them play too often so any info from those that do would be great.
I am actually hoping they dont have a great year b/c i sooo badly want Calvin Johnson next draft. Superman to Calvin would be great.

whats the deal with LenDale White? y is he not playing much?
How good is Lowry at safety?

thanks
Asteinebach
Wish I knew, to be honest. I made a big move out here to Colorado, and the games that I get here are so damn random it isn't funny. Last week I got Green Bay vs. Chicago, but of course, haven't gotten to see them Lions yet. I think I'm actually fortunate with that though. tongue.gif

Anyways, I really don't think any team in the NFL is willing to trade W's for draft picks, but I understand your enthusiasm. I wish there was a player in this draft that fit the Lions' needs.
martino_cappachino
I would love to see VY to CJ but the Tennesse Titans main problems right now are stemming from a lack of defense and run support not to mention Kerry Collins is still their starting QB. So they probably won't go for WR in the first I'm sure.

I believe Lendale White got in a scuffle with a teammate during training camp and the Titans just haven't liked him and his attitude that much ever since.
scontractor
haha, sorry for the boring games your getting, it sux. dont feel bac, i get texan games. its actually unique to see a D that is that bad.
but i agree, no team will trade Ws for a higher pick, just my wish, atleast until Vince starts.

Titans have alot of cap room next year so they will go after their biggest needs, DL, OL, CB/S. i think it would be a great idea for them to get Calvin if they can. he would be a great help to Vince. Also, Peterson would be awesome, but i just thought if they got White in the 2nd last year, they would rather get a WR. If i could address atleast 2 of the needs via free agency, i think Calvin would be my pick. also, Drew Bennett is a FA at the end of the year.
Asteinebach
Looks like they are going to try and deal Albert Haynesworth. If I'm the Lions front office, I'm offering a 2nd rounder for him.

They can get a similar player from the same school in Justin Harrell in the 2nd or 3rd round, why would they want Haynesworth at such a high price?
Asteinebach
Haynesworth is NFL Proven. He's been one of the most dominate run stoppers in the league. You can't get any guarantees on a rookie prospect.
scontractor
I did not think 5 games was enough, i would have done 8. But his guy needs some therapy, just to control his problem, b/c this isnt the frist time. That said, i would do a Psych Eval on him and definitely want him on my team. He is on of the top DTs in NFL.
I want to make sure he really does regret what he did. And also when he comes back, i want him to still play with the aggression that he played with b4. I dont want him to be sooo concerned about what people think of his every move to become less aggressive and nasty. It will be a fine line for him.
nick1
Young is awesome, he was my favorite player coming out of this draft because he has so much potential. so far he has won more games than anyother rookie QB. although Jay Cutler hasn't played yet and Matt Leinart is on the worst team in the league

Same school as John Henderson also. Huh UTK must be a good place for DTs.

As for what I would offer it would have to be a 3rd or 4th rounder because his history of drug and attitude problems might be detrimental to my team.
gpngc
Nice win yesterday. Seem to have a good running game going. Vince is gaining valuable experience. Titans fans? Biggest needs for next year? How's Roos doing at LT?
scontractor
my take on what they need most
1 - CALVIN JOHNSON - if he is there, you must take him. i would even consider trading up a few spots up for him.
- if Calvin is going to go way b4 the titans pic, then their are many other options.
this draft/free agency must add
-safety
-DE
-CB
-WR
-DT
-OL
-LB

i think getting CALVIN JOHNSON is the best WR, by far, in this draft. i think i 2 yrs he is a top 5 NFL wr, and if Vince is to progress he needs a bad ass #1 WR to make life easier for him. i know DE and Safety are priorities but atleast one can be upgraded from the rummored 40 mill in salary cap room.

Vince, T.Henry, LenDale, Calvin, Troupe - great core on offense

Well said! haha. I actually don't think it's imperative that he gets a guy like Calvin, but it definitely wouldn't hurt. I think Vince could be great even without amazing WR's...

But, I agree that Calvin seems like a perfect fit for that team...

Thanks a lot for your input scon...
QuietStorm
Though they just beat my Giants, I'm very happy that Vince Young is finding some early success and escaping possible unnecessary criticism about the way he plays (we all know how the media loves to pick on Quarterbacks who can run and don't put up flashy passing numbers). I don't like however that the Titans were failing to get the ball into the hands of their best receiver, Ben Troupe. He's a great playmaker who can get the job done and they just weren't finding ways to get him the ball; better luck next year. As a one time big Tennessee Titan fan, I'm very happy with the way Vince Young has played so far and really think he can win in the NFL.
gpngc
60-yarder? The Colts? Time to get excited....
scontractor
He may not throw for 300 yrds or run for 150 or make the greatest play you have seen(although he is doing the last thing), Vince Young has IT. He has always been a winner. I'm not getting crazy excited yet b/c he does need to improve in all areas, but WOW!!!! i want the critics and everyone that said he wasn't good enough, does not have a great throwing motion, did horrible on the exam scores to say "I was wrong, this guy can play in the NFL and win." Look at the starters on the Titan Offense, not a single big name guy on the offense(T Henry is by far the biggest). Give this guy a up grade in talent just a bit and this team is showing that they are not yet out of the AFC(not NFC) playoff race. Yes many things have to go right, but it is possible. VY=Captain Comeback.
SUPERMAN!!!!!!!!!
PatriotofMaine
I spoke to Ackerly several times last summer, and to his credit (and the Titans good fortune) he never wavered from his decision, quote: "If Vince Young is there, he is our guy." CDS was just another of many inputs that may have served to confirm the Titans in their conviction that he was a "can't miss" guy.
gpngc
OROY as long as Colston is on the shelf...

He really made those Houston fans feel bad taking it to them in OT....
wb83
I'm not ready to anoint him yet.

Comp.%= 50.2
TD= 10
INT= 10
Sacked= 14
QB Rating= 64.8
Longest Pass= 37
Rush= 372
RTD= 4
Fumble= 5
Lost= 2

VY has played well but it's not all him. Without the picks buy Pacman they wouldn't have had a shot at the Giants game.
Indy only scored 17 points. EVERY team in the league should beat Indy if they only score 17. They don't have that kind of defense, they have to be in the lead to be any good.
In the Philly game VY only completed 36% of his passes with one TD and only ran for 50 yards.
He played well today against the Big Bad Texans, in his home State, so I'll give him that.
That doesn't sound like a Superman who did it all by himself. The Titan TEAM is playing well especially the defense, only allowing an average of 18 points in the last four games.
I'd bet on VY becoming a star but I'd still take Leinart if I was drafting today.
Guest
your crazy Young is a much better player than Leinart, he is the comeback kid. he turned a 3rd and 14 play in OT into a 39 yard TD to win the game. he can take over late in games with both his legs and arm, he is still a bit raw as a passer but he will learn. he has tons of potential while Leinart has about reached his, take Young every day

It's unfair to compare the two. I think they'll both ultimately succeed in their respective situations. You've gotta love what both did this past weekend, Young against Houston, Leinart against Seattle.
nick1
Leinart and Young are two very different QBs, Leinart is more of a "true" QB. he will have a strong pocket presence and will read defenses all day long. Young is a duel threat QB, he will roll out of the pocket and have the most effectiveness with bootlegs and when all breaks down he will run a long ways
scontractor
wb83, i was never saying that its all VY. but that offense does not have any "stars", but it does have alot of guys playing very well together, which i think VY has a lot to do with.
This last week not withstanding he has played very good offense. and as i said he does need to improve in many ways but he really is SUPERMAN!
1)in HS(Madison) VY beat a huge powerhouse and favorite(North Shore) 61-59 in the Texas State Championship.
2)in College(The University of Texas @ Austin) VY beat a huge powerhouse and favorite(usc) 41-38 in the BCS.
3)in NFL(Titans) VY beat a huge powerhouse and favorite(to be determined) ??-?? in the SuperBowl.
just a matter of time wink.gif

My take on the Titans Offseason '07

with 11 draft pics and 40 million in cap space, the titans dont really need to add 13+ players in the off season. assuming they get 2/3 big needs in FA. they need to trade up at least 2x in the draft.
Titans need to add 10 players in the off season, max, assuming they get the injured reserves back. add minimum 6 to 7 players.

How I think they should go about in the off season.
-Resign Bobby Wade and Robaire Smith.
-Get back healthy Givens, Troupe, A. Otom, R. Long, Kinney, Z. Piller.
-If Givens is healthy then I would not bring back Bennett.
-Let Chris Brown walk
-This off season must yield 2 starters in the secondary.

Free Agency (with the play of this team and the league watching the leadership of VY, many big names will want to play here)
1. get the best available CB period. $ what u need to and go get him. i would like a young experienced CB over a rookie this year b/c to me nobody stands out head and shoulders above the rest, also i want him ready to start next year. i think Nate Clements might be the best one out there.
2. Go after the best DL available. My guess would be Dwight Freeny. Not sure who else is available.
3. best player available that is not a QB or FB or K/P.

Draft (assuming it is the 15th pick)
(there is no question that what happens in free agency/guys coming back from injury will make a huge difference here). So assuming they bring in a CB and DE via free agency; also future rounds depend on what happens in previous rounds.
round
1. option1; trade up to get WR (only Calvin Johnson or Dwayne Jarrett).
option2; trade up to get S (Laron Landry).
option3; stay at about 15 and take M. Griffin or Reggie Nelson or Glenn Doursey.
2. option1; (assuming they take a WR in round 1) - Aaron Rouse, Brandon Siler, Rufus
Alexander, HB Blades, Buster Davis.
options2; (assuming they take a S in round 1) - Dwayne Bowe(I have him ranked as
the 3rd best WR in the draft, great blocker downfield and very good hands and good
size).
(TITANS with 11 picks should trade get 3 picks in first 2 rounds) I want 3 of the players mentioned above.
3. option 1; (assuming they have drafted 1 WR, 1S, 1(non OL) - Kasey Studdard(mean
road grader).
option 2; Garrett Wolfe/Lorenzo Booker (smaller faster back for change of pace)
option 3; back up C to an aging Kevin Mawae - Dan Mozes, Ryan Kalil, Lyle Sendlein.
4-7
- a fast RB (will be room after cutting Brown and a different type of runner then what they
have)
- Depth at OL/DL
- depth at WR (WR from New Hampshire David Ball)
yoc84

Not really sure about what we should take in the 2007 draft...I've seen mostly WR (Jarrett and Ted Ginn) which would easily be an upgrade, although I don't believe Jarrett will be available that late. What we truly need is some stability on 'D', weren't we the worst defense last year? Rookies don't help right away (look at the last 3-4 years), so does that mean we go after some FA since we actually have some cap room this year (What's that like?).

The 2007 season will get us back to the playoffs, finally. GO TITANS
adavis
You guys(and me since I'm a huge Titans fan) have failed to address the key needs of offensive line and wide receiver. Jarrett might slip a bit due to speed concerns, so he could be there. An excellent lineman like Blalock, Ben Grubbs as guards or maybe Joe Staley at tackle, but thats too high for him.

TEN used to be very good at trading down and stockpiling picks, I would think they might do that in the later rounds, but they need a playmaker with pick 1.
scontractor
adavis, i think titans have 11 pics in this draft and that in itself is a lot of players. more and more it seems that ginn and maybe dbowe will both go above djarrett. there is a chance that we can get djarrett(which in my opinion would be an extremely great pick up).

i didnt get a chance to watch too many titan games this year but for what some friends tell me, the OL is young and very good. both OT are set and we just need debth at OG. What do you guys think about the situation at OL??

free agency is the key. if we can get a guy like tardel sands at DT. either samules or clements or any decent upgrade at CB. and a S( 2 guys come to mind, names leave me at this point but they play for seattle and jacksonville). if we can get guys at these 3 positions and i know DE needs up grades also(but we can get a starter in the second round. i dont think the titans want to draft 11 guysso i do think trades will occur.

i hear that tullock should be ready at MLB this year also, what do you think?? if he is that one hell of a LB trio.

is there any site that shows all the free agency signings and what is going on ?

thanks

Deon Grant of Jacksonville is AN UFA>

thanks bwalker, and the other guy from seattle is ken hamlin. and our chances with hamiln should be good considering we just hired a guy from seattle.

Terdell Sands is off the market. He signed an extension with the Raiders...
scontractor
gpngc, damn that sux, i really hoped that the titans could get him somewhat cheap.
gpngc
Here's the latest from the free agency front... Tennessee is in great shape:

Titans: $37 million
UFA
WR Drew Bennett
WR Bobby Wade
OT Seth Wand
QB Kerry Collins
HB Chris Brown
DT Robaire Smith
DT Rien Long
OLB LeVar Woods
SS Donnie Nickey
RFA
C Eugene Amano
OG Jacob Bell
TE Ben Hartsock
DT Randy Starks
OLB Colby Bockwoldt
OLB Robert Reynolds
scontractor
thanks for the post gpngc.
out of thoes the only ones i want back are
wr - wade
dt - smith
dt - wand
og - bell
ol - amano
scontractor
damit, patriots just made samuels as their franchise player. only 2 good CBs left, clements and harper.
scontractor
Any Titans fan know whats going on with FA and who the front office is targeting? Also whats the latest with the re-doing of T Henry's contract, they have a few things to address b4 FA starts.

gpngc
Meachem at 19? Young's new fav. target? Do it.
scontractor
Meachem has been doing so well he may be the #2 WR picked. It doesnt look like he will be around at #19 anymore. But it little that i watched of him he caught the ball well and looked great in all the drills.
Hope he or DJarrett will be around at #19.
scontractor
so far no news on the FA market. Hope they can get atleast 2 guys that can make a difference.
scontractor
I know Travis Henry cost 8 mill but they need to find a way to keep him or get another good back that cost about 5 mill. Henry was the 2nd best player on that O. they need a good RB which Lendale is not, atleast not yet.
i am down to trade a 4th, maybe even a 3rd for willis mcgaee.
Falcon32
youre gonna have to trade a 2nd most likely to get willis man
scontractor
Falcon, yeah thats what i would think. i think a good back is worth a 2nd but i think the last few RBs that have been traded went below, what at least i would perceive, market value. we'll see what he goes for.
scontractor
I was wondering if any of you guys had the phone # to the front office of the Titans? I just wanted to let them know that it ok for them to now contact and sign FAs.

Also, they lost/cut/will lose
-lost Bennett (which is a good move)
-lost Henry (NOT good, sux), with zero compensation
-going to lose Wade (#2WR now that Bennet is gone and Givens still injured)
-C. Brown should be released
-no FAs

Entering offseason needs:
#1 WR, #2 CB, #2 DE, #1 S, #3 RB, #1 OG, depth at OL, LB, QB

5 days into FA needs:
#1 WR, #2 CB, #2 DE, #1 S, #3 RB, #1 OG, depth at OL, LB, QB and #1 RB(maybe #2 if LenDale gave a rats a$$), #3 WR, maybe #1 CB(Packman).

NOT a good start i would say. but still time to get a few guys at a decent price$. I am glad that they havent over paid for anyone b/c i dont want them to be in $$cap handcuffs in 2 yrs again.

FAs that Titans need to contact as you are reading this are:(not sign necessarily but contact)
-Hamlin & Grant at S
-Brian Simmons at LB
-Colts CB(name escapes me, sorry)
-a DE(dont know who is left, but thought there was 1 decent guy left)

so if you can get me a # that woud be great, or even an email, but i doubt bud adams knows what internet is.
PatriotofMaine
The general number is 615-565-4000. Mike Ackerley is a member of CDS so you could ask for him...I've talked to him a few times.

I really feel for you man. This ain't looking pretty.

At pick #19 the Titans need to stay nin focus and not reach for anyone who isn't in their 15-25 range. With that said the player that you want is Robert Meachem wr tennessee. If it takes a move up then so be it!! He is the #2 rated wr (in my opinion) and is a fill-in-the-need pick. In the seciond round, with pick #50 a corner back is a must. I think that you actually might have a difficult option because a sliding Daymeion Hughes might be available but the pick is a hometown boy who is riding a roller coaster up the charts Jonathan Wade cb Tennessee. In the third round---providing you still have one after moving up in round one for Robert Meachem---Ikaika Alama -Thomas de Hawaii. That's the best I can do for you at this point but if you don't move up in round one then just substitute Dwayne Bowe for Robert Meachem. Thanks for listening---Rich from Newport
scontractor
rich, good point on Meacheam, i too think hes really good. i cant decide who i like better btw Meachem and Jarrett. Both are good and are clearly the 2/3 WRs behind Calvin. I dont know if CB must be addressed in the 2nd but it is a high priority. dont know much about the dude from Hawaii.

btw, Rich, do you call the Jim Rome show?? i dont listen much but every once in a while. just wondering, you name sounds familar.

i'm sure w/ the number of draft picks and cap space the Titans could look to bring in the guy they should've drafted in '98... Randy Moss!

then draft a young buck to develop (Meachem/Jarrett/Bowe) & ur air corps should be solid for VY...

Two quick points---Tennessee needs to make a determination about PAC-MAN Jones!!! My gut tells me that Mike Reinfeldt will end up having to keep him because of the cap hit for releasing him ---Ithen would wage a competitve preseason for that cornerback slot. As long as a legitimate competion exists, I think PAC-MAN will get his juices flowing. But he has one foot out the door and I think they want to slam the door in his face. In order for there to be a real yhreat and not just a perceived threat you must have an able body cb to compete against. Hence, Jonathan Wadr. As far as Ikaika Alama-Francis--6'6" 280-290 lbs de Hawaii---in 2006---10,5 tfl and 5 sacks. In addition Alama-Francis came to Hawaii on a basketball scholarship but quickly found that this wasn't his future. He switched sports and is just now learning the nuances of the game. A real first day sleeper who is rated in th 46-55 range. (2nd round) But he is flying under the radar and could be had in the third round. POTENTIAL is a big part of his appeal but with his basketball background he has excellent footwork and balance and is lightening quick off the edge. His father was Joe Francis who backed up Bart Starr at Green Bay----Thanks for listening---rich from newport

No No No to Randy, we have enough problems. He along with TO are very overratted. Ill pass but with the cap space and pick, you would think they would have done something in FA so far.

There's an injury concern with alama francis, he tore a bi or tri i think in the hawaii all star game. some teams see him as a 3-4 linebacker, he'd probably have to be at 270 for that. From what i've heard the rehab is on schedule but, didn't work out at the combine because of reinjury risk.
