...from watching these two fastbreak offenses. There certainly wasn't much defense, and only two defensive players that we are tracking for this entire game, neither of whom could do much to stop the points and especially the yardage from skyrocketing throughout the evening. Both starting QBs--Nevada's Jeff Rowe, and Hawaii's Colt Brennan played well, and it is hard not to notice them when they are throwing the ball so much. In the end, Hawaii (with RB Nate Ilaoa) had just a tad more balance then Nevada offensively, but even when Rowe got banged up and gave way to Travis Moore, Nevada never missed a beat (he led them to three TDs in the last quarter+) and Nevada should have tied it. Brennan rolled out from his own 5-yard line, up 7, with 2:45 to go and inexplicably did not throw the ball away when his receivers were well covered downfield. Instead, he got hit, fumbled, and Hawaii recovered at the 4. They could not punch it in on four tries though, and Hawaii hung on for the win.

SCOUTING SUMMARY:

Jeff Rowe 3 6' 5.0" 220 4.95 QB 2007: Looked good early, and showed enough escape ability. He is tall and sees the field well, but he took too many hits and was injured late in the 3rd quarter. His delivery is fine, but I have visions of Drew Bledsoe here....GRADE: Slightly positive

Joe Garcia 23 6' 0.0" 182 4.48 CB 2007: Got beaten early, then had a nice breakup, and then was throw away from the rest of the day. I don't see big league ability here. GRADE: Neutral

Anthony Pudewell 0' 0.0" 0 0.00 TE 2007: I guess he's been playing with a bad ankle and that is why I was not high on him after the first game I scouted him in this year. But the guy can get downfield and shows good hands. Not that impressed with his blocking though...GRADE: Neutral

College: Hawaii Conference: Western Athletic Columnist: Steve Martin

Samson Satele 64 6' 3.0" 312 4.98 OG 2007: Ditto from my first scouting report. He is perfect for the position. Really moves very well in short areas and will not get pushed back. Will give ground when he should, but not because he can't prevent it. Equally solid in pass pro and run blocking. GRADE: Positive

Colt Brennan 15 6' 2.4" 190 0.00 QB 2008: System QB label will not stick. The guy will be fine in a WCO. Nice delivery. Great manueverability. Doesn't make many bad decisions or bad throws. He scrambles like Tarkington, and throws as well. GRADE: Positive

Nate Ilaoa 4 5' 9.0" 254 4.60 HB 2007: More impressive today than the last time I raved about him. He never gets tackled by the first guy. Just bounces off tacklers and keeps rambling. Shows good hands too. 12 carries for 145 yards. 8 catches for 68. Got the game ball, and rightly so. GRADE: Very positive

Melila Purcell 98 6' 4.5" 276 0.00 DE 2007: Not as explosive as I want to see, but he gets decent push and has a nice club and swim. His size alone will get him drafted if he runs sub-4.75. GRADE: Slightly positive.
