While Garrett Wolfe didnt put up his 262 yard average he normally puts up, he did have a good performance with 2 TDs. There were some legit prospects in this one, which ended up with a Husky victory.

NIU

OT- Doug Free-Very athletic and moves very well. Can pull out of the pocket nicely and take heads out downfield. May be a tad overrated, but really finishes nicely and always puts his head on a helmut. Didn’t show any wasted motions and elite footwork keeps him in the play. I don’t know if he’s a top 50 caliber guy, but definitely a first day.

RB-Garrett Wolfe-Showed ridiculous burst. Is actually physical on contact and threw a big block on a safety. Does not shy away from contact and lowers pads to fend off blocks. Low center of gravity make it hard for him to be tackled. Hits hole quickly and is patient for holes to open up. Has no real weakness outside of size. Is a threat to hit a home run every single time he touches the ball. Off game for him. Never went down on first contact.

QB- Phil Horvath-Quick decision maker. Erratic arm at times, but is usually very accurate. Completion wise he wasn’t too bad and came in and managed the offense. With a breakout game, he could be a late 2nd day pick. Certainly has the head and pedigree to play at the next level, but needs some fine tuning.

TE-Jake Nordin-DNP. Didn’t catch why he was out.

S- Dustin Utschig-Was in on a number of plays. Came up and hit in the run game. Played coverage well. Just an okay performance for a game like this.

MIAMI(OH)

WR- Ryne Robinson-Crisp route runner and shows the ability to get open. Catches ball at its highest point and brings it in. Can be utilized in reverses and at back. Speed demon who underachieved in this one. Reminds me of Deion Branch.

S- Joey Card-Ooh I like him! Showed fantastic range making plays all over the field. 11 total tackles and really makes some big hits. Covered the pass well and broke up some passes. A legit safety.

Watch out for:
Joey Hudson MLB Miami(OH)-Tough competitor. Recognized play quickly and got to the football. Excellent blitzer and opened up the offensive line. I’m going to keep my eye on him.

I recalling you saying something like "Garrett Wolfe is overrated" awhile ago. Have you changed your mind?

Adam, how big is Card? I haven't seen him yet. Does he have elite measurables too?
bredden
Steve,

Card is close to elite measurables, but he doesn't have them. He's about 6-0, 205, 4.5 40. The issue with him is not his hitting or play in front of him. He hits like a ton of bricks. The issue is his COD and hips in coverage. It something that is being worked on, but that is probably his biggest issue right now. Also, he's a super-smart kid in a tough IT program at Miami.

Thanks Brian.

YW, as always.

Also, props to Adam on the Hudson issue. He is definitely a guy to watch. Also, keep an eye on Trainaine Sills, used as a DE, but I hope they move him to a WILL spot and let him use his speed. The guy is explosive off of the edge and can be very distuptive. Whenever Wolfe got bottled up, Sills was somewhere close.

People are overrating his draft status, saying hes a first rounder and whatnot, same with Troy Smith. As a runner, he is as good as they come. He might be gambled on in the 2nd round, but at 5-7, 190(on a very good day) he is just not going to hold up at the NFL level.

I've loved Wolfe for 2 years(interviewed him last year) as a runner, I just think people are overrating him as an NFL back.

Adam... how would you compare Garrett Wolfe to guys like Mo Drew and Darren Sproles?

They are completely different. Mo Drew and Darren Sproles were much more compact body wise and had the BULK to play at the next level. Height for backs is overrated in the NFL. Dunn, Drew(thus far), Moats, are all having success in the NFL, but it is due to their frame. Mo Drew came in around 205 pounds and Sproles was a little lighter if Im not mistaken. At the beginning of the year last year, Wolfe was 170 pounds. I weighed that in 10th grade! Granted, he is a lot more physical than his frame would lead you to believe, but he dosent have the bulk that Drew had or Sproles had. Also, those guys played at BCS schools. Wolfe probably would be playing somewhere bigger, but didnt have the grades to do so.

I love Wolfe, dont get me wrong, but I think hes playing now as a man amongst boys, but when he gets to the NFL he will be a boy amongst men.
