You hate to see games like this STILL decided by officials even with instant replay. The Aggies, down 21-0 early, came storming back at home behind soph QB Chase Holbrook (45 of 60 for 485 yards, 1/2) and were down just 27-21 early in the 3rd quarter when they stuffed BSU on 4th down and should have gotten the ball. A totally bogus late hit call against BSU QB Jared Zabransky allowed them to keep the ball, and in the ensuing 4 plays there were too blatant blocks in the backs against BSU that went uncalled to allow them to score and go up by two scores. The WAC is definitely the most exciting football in America with BSU, Hawaii, NM State...and with a bunch of godd QBs. Holbrook may eventually be the best of all the QBs in the pass-happy WAC today. NM State's Miami (FL) transfer wideout Aikeem Jolla is a stud and should be in a camp next fall.

SCOUTING SUMMARY:

College: Boise State Conference: Western Athletic Columnist: Steve Martin
Name # Ht Wt Speed Pos Class Game Notes

Jared Zabransky 5 6' 2.0" 203 4.88 QB 2007: Ehhh...not a great game for Zabransky. Threw a couple TD passes, and only one pick. But, he is not the gunslinger of old now, prefering to dink and dunk. Effective, but not the charisma he used to show. On the flip side, he is a much more efficient game manager now. Solid career 3rd stringer in the NFL, IMHO. GRADE: Slightly positive

Korey Hall 25 6' 1.0" 238 4.79 LB 2007: I have loved this guy's game for three years now. First caught my eye as a sophomore. He reminds me of a Robert Rodriguez, but may have a tad more athleticism (but not strength) than the former UTEP star. Is a vacuum cleaner in the middle and does a real nice job dropping into coverage now too. He is not a real big guy, but he better for second day to someone because he's just plain too good a football player not to. GRADE: Positive

Quinton Jones 23 5' 9.0" 177 4.36 CB 2007: Not really showing me that he deserves to be in the database. Got beaten early. Was in on run support a couple of times, but with his size, he needs to do more. Still, that 4.36 will cactch some eyes, and he may be better in pass D than I saw today. GRADE: Slightly negative

Jeff Cavendar 64 6' 1.5" 295 0.00 C 2008: Playing ROG and does well. I refuse to grade out a junior who I know is not coming out though. GRADE: Neutral

College: New Mexico State Conference: Western Athletic Columnist: Steve Martin

Jeremy Weeks 90 6' 1.0" 295 5.25 NT 2007: Ties up a man...sometimes two. Doesn't do anything special that I can see. had one nice open field tackle, but then got hurt (back) and did not return. GRADE: Slightly negative

Courtney Bryan 27 5' 11.0" 210 4.50 CB 2007: In on a couple plays. Saw too little of him to grade out. GRADE: Inc

Aikeem Jolla 2 6' 2.0" 204 4.60 WR 2007: The transfer trom "The U" was very impressive. He was playing hurt at Miami, but looked very effective today. Made all the catches he should have made. If he recovers totally and stays healthy, you know he will put up the numbers in this offense to get some serious late day 2 consideration. GRADE: Positive

Notes: Soph Ian Johnson also rushed for 183 yards and scored 4 more times. He could be a first day selection in the '09 draft.

How's that Orlando Scandrick coming along? Showing any signs of maturing as a player, or is he relying purely on athleticism still? (Looking at Holbrook's numbers, maybe this isn't the week to ask! wink.gif .)
PatriotofMaine
I really wasn't scouting Scandrick, but he did nothing that really stood out.
martino_cappachino
That must be some sort of record in the NCAA throwing 60 times in a game and completing 45 of those attempts. Does Holbrook's arm ever get tired blink.gif??
jwest
Actually, since you asked...

Just looked and the most pass attempts in a game was 83 (by Drew Brees - Purdue v. Wisconsin - 10/8/98 - completed 55).

For highest completion percentage (with a minimum of 40 completions) was Kliff Kingsbury (Texas Tech v. Texas AM - 10/5/02) when he completed 49 of 59 passes.
