USC is 6-0, undefeated once again, and #3 in the nation. So why is everyone in a frenzy in the Land of Troy? This is the 3rd straight win for USC by 7 points or less. And these games have come at WSU, home against Washington, and home against ASU. These aren't even the ones who are supposed to be giving USC a tough time. USC took an earl 21-0 lead and things looked good until in the 3rd quarter ASU tied things up. Chauncy Washington led USC on a 7 minute, 74 yard touchdown drive late in the 4th quarter to win the game for the Trojans. The Sun Devils are now on a 3 game losing streak after opening the season 3-0. If there is any silver lining for ASU, they did play toe to toe with #3 USC after getting dominated on both sides of the ball by #11 Cal and #18 Oregon.
ASU PP's:
Jesse Ainsworth, K, ASU- Was 3-3 on extra points but did miss his only field goal attempt: C
Rudy Burgess, WR/RB, ASU- Had one carry for 3 yards. Rudy had a number of dropped balls, had one in ASU's first drive on 3rd down that basically killed his confidence. Did a good job in the return game but, he's as quiet as ever in this suddenly quiet ASU offense: F
Andrew Carnahan, OT, ASU- DNP
Zach Catanese, S, ASU- A lot of people compare him to Pat Tillman, which is very wrong. But he still is a good looking player. Did a good job stopping the big plays in the run. Still he has to do too much to carry this defense: B
Zach Miller, TE, ASU- 4 receptions for 36 yards with one touchdown. Looked a lot better in this game than he did against Cal or Oregon: B+
Mike Pollak, C, ASU- Had a very difficult time blocking USC NT Sedrick Ellis, but frankly, who doesn't? C
Terry Richardson, WR, ASU- DNP
Mike Rodd, OT, ASU- Any time they had zone blocking or really whenever he wasn't on Lawrence Jackson, he was fine. However, one on one with Jackson, he was conisistently beat off the line: D+
USC PP's:
Sam Baker, OT, USC- The ASU dline was no match for this future 1st rounder. Sam abosolutely worked that side of the line: A-
John David Booty, QB, USC- Didn't have an great day, but led the Trojans to the win. Completed only 48% of his passes for a small 148 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception: C
Jeff Byers, OG, USC-
Fred Davis, TE, USC- Davis started but did not have a catch, once again, a result of JDB's struggles.
Sedrick Ellis, NT, USC- Wasn't as much of a menace pass rushing as normal. But did a number on the ASU running game, limiting Ryan Torain to only 57 yards on 20 carries: B+
Lawrence Jackson, DE, USC- His first step today was as good as I've ever seen it. Beat his tackle almost everytime and was consistently in the backfield: A
Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC- Because of Booty's struggles, Jarrett's numbers were limited but still finished with 6 receptions for 60 yards with one touchdown: B
Ryan Kalil, C, USC- Had and good to average day. Was beaten occasionally but never for anything bad. Did a good job pass protecting: B
Oscar Lua, LB, USC- DNP
Keith Rivers, LB, USC- Rivers and Sartz both had a good days, however it's becoming clear that the playmakers on this LB core are the two young ones, Brian Cushing and Rey Malalugua. They will get the big plays, but make no mistake about it, Sartz and Rivers are still very solid players: B
Dallas Sartz, LB, USC- see Rivers
Steve Smith, WR, USC- Was limited to one catch for 12 yards. Booty couldn't find him: D
USC was once again leap-frogged in the AP Poll. Staying at #3 while Michigan moved into the #2 spot.
