I had to watch this game a few times there were so many prospects. Some wont get drafted, but there were a good 10 NFL starters in this game that will play in the NFL someday. In the end, it was Jamarcus Russels arm that made the difference.

LaRon Landry 30 6' 1.5" 204 4.45 S 2007 -Good speed; makes up ground in a hurry. Had a sack and really looked like a first rounder. There was one play where he should have had an interception to close out the game, but somehow got through him. This play alone, had me dropping his grade a notch. A player like Landry should get that ball.
GRADE-SLIGHTLY POSITIVE

JaMarcus Russell 2 6' 6.0" 260 4.75 QB 2008-Quick decision maker.Nearly impossible to sack, so big and strong. Passed for 3 TDs and threw 3 pics but was good when the game was on the line. Love his leadership. Ran very well too, rackin up 70 yards. Stares down receivers and really has a long way to go before becoming a polished product.
GRADE- SLIGHTLY POSITIVE

Alley Broussard 22 6' 0.0" 248 4.55 HB 2008 -Played sparingly. Shows a lot of promise, but isnt fully recovered from injury and there is so much competition with the other backs on the team.
GRADE-INC

Justin Vincent 23 5' 10.0" 225 4.55 HB -2007-Got the start, but only had 1 rush after that. Showed so much intrigue after the Sugar Bowl a few years ago, now barely plays. My prediction is that he will be aN OK pro, but isnt a good college football player at this point.
GRADE-INC

Dwayne Bowe 80 6' 3.0" 215 4.55 WR 2007-Crisp route runner. Willing to block. Does all the little things. Had a great game today. Uses his hands as opposed to body. Really is going to climb as the year goes on. Great YAC ability. Is now the TD leader for LSU receivers.
GRADE-POSITIVE

Craig Davis 3 6' 2.0" 207 4.40 WR 2007 -Has been overshawdowed by his teammates over the years, but in the end will be as good as any of them. Caught the first TD of the game. Love his size and quickness. GRADE-POSITIVE

Keith Zinger 89 6' 4.0" 260 4.85 TE 2007-Didnt start or have a catch. Used as a blocker. He a legit PP?
GRADE-INC

Brian Johnson 75 6' 4.0" 307 5.25 OG 2007 -Could have done a better job. I usually really like him, but I wasnt terribly impressed today. GRADE-SLIGHTLY NEGATIVE

Chase Pittman 94 6' 5.0" 273 4.75 DE 2007-Got some good hits on Ainge. Didnt have his best showing, but is still a top notch player and one of the best ends in the country. GRADE-SLIGHTLY POSITIVE/NEUTRAL

Jessie Daniels 31 6' 0.0" 205 4.55 S 2007-So so game for him. Didnt let a lot deep by him, but didnt come up and hit in the run game like I've seen before. Left the game after a stinger. GRADE-NEUTRAL

Jacob Hester 18 6' 0.0" 230 4.70 FB 2008-Kept the sticks moving. Looked good for a FB. Runs like a running back. Use him more! He is probably the best back they have at this point. GRADE-POSITIVE

Will Arnold 73 6' 4.0" 319 5.25 OG 2008 -I did not see him in action in this game. GRADE-INC

Glenn Dorsey 72 6' 2.0" 300 5.15 DT 2008-Really like his ability to get behind the line. Was keeping pace with

Crompton on one run. Plays tough on every play. Seemed to be in on every play. Stats werent great, but he was the difference in the game.
GRADE-VERY POSITIVE

Chevis Jackson 21 6' 0.0" 190 4.40 CB 2008-Had 2 knocked away passes. Wasnt tried that much. Not as good as Zenon, but has the pedigree to get better. GRADE-NEUTRAL

Ali Highsmith 7 6' 1.0" 225 4.55 LB 2008 -Was as good as anyone on the defense. Looked really good in coverage breaking up a few passes. I think that is where he makes his mark in the NFL draft as a good cover 2 LB. Id like to see him actually intercept a few chances he had, but a PBU is better than a completion. GRADE-VERY POSITIVE

Jonathan Zenon 19 6' 0.0" 176 4.45 CB 2008
Good cover corner. Had some tough times versus Meachem, but most guys do. Quick feet, good release. Very impressive in coverage. Could be an up and comer. GRADE-SLIGHTLY POSITIVE

Vols
Cory Anderson 45 6' 3.0" 255 4.75 FB 2007-Big, physical rock eater. Paver. Didnt stand out in this game, but is a consistent road grader. GRADE-NEUTRAL

Jayson Swain 1 6' 1.0" 205 4.55 WR 2007-Had a couple of nice plays. No endzone though. GRADE-NEUTRAL

Arron Sears 76 6' 4.0" 330 5.40 OT 2007 -Very good feet, for a guard. He is definitely a guard at the next level.

There was consistent pressure on the QBs and he did alot to keep them away from the freshman. Solid prospect, has ability to move around the line and play wherever. GRADE-POSITIVE

David Ligon 66 6' 5.0" 300 5.15 OG 2007 -Got the start. Crompton only was sacked once, and Ligon was a big factor. Going up against Dorsey is tough, Ligon impressed. GRADE-POSITIVE

Justin Harrell 92 6' 4.0" 300 5.00 DT 2007-DNP, out for season.

Turk McBride 90 6' 4.0" 275 4.90 DT 2007- Has looked good in the absense of Harrell. Tennessee always puts out good tackles and McBride is the next great one. Had one great TFL and is going to rise as the season goes on. GRADE-POSITIVE

Jonathan Wade 4 5' 10.5" 195 4.38 CB 2007-Didnt look the best against big time receivers. GRADE-SLIGHTLY NEGATIVE

Antwan Stewart 24 6' 0.0" 195 4.50 S 2007-Had a tough task covering Bowe and Davis. The passing won this game, and Stewart did get picked on. GRADE-SLIGHTLY NEGATIVE

James Wilhoit 25 5' 10.0" 195 5.10 K 2007 - Had a good game. FGs are always important in these close games and he did his part. Consistent kicker. GRADE-POSITIVE

Roshaun Fellows 36 6' 0.0" 185 4.40 CB 2008 -Injured. DNP

Inquoris Johnson 29 5' 9.0" 180 4.40 CB 2008 -Didnt see him in the game or in the participation report. Jeff?

GRADE-INC

Britton Colquitt 47 6' 3.0" 198 5.00 P 2009 -Next in line of the kicking Colquitts. Sent some boomers the other way. Averaged around 50 yards per punt. GRADE-POSITIVE

Robert Meachem 3 6' 3.0" 210 4.45 WR 2008-Dropped a 3rd down play.Lapses in concentration. I wasnt big on Meachem before this year, but he has had a breakout year. Routes are great, in and out of cuts so quickly. Singlehandedly kept his team in this game. A little stiff in his routes, but gets open. The only reason he is positive is because he did have few drops. He has a promising career at UT and in the NFL.
GRADE-POSITIVE

Erik Ainge 10 6' 6.0" 225 4.80 QB 2008-Wasnt 100%. Love his height. Accuracy was off. Only played one quarter, left the game.
GRADE-INC

Marvin Mitchell 40 6' 3.0" 235 4.75 LB -I prefer Xavier Mitchell. Marvin did have some nice plays, but didnt look amazing.
GRADE-NEUTRAL

Bret Smith 9 6' 3.0" 190 4.48 WR 2007 -Only used sparingly. Not enough to warrant a grade. GRADE-INC

Jonathan Hefney 33 5' 9.0" 185 4.40 CB 2008-Fantastic game. Extremely compact and physical. Was all over the field defensively and returned some kicks offensively. Had an INT as well. Best player in the game. GRADE-VERY POSITIVE

Thoughts
DE, Xavier Mitchell from UT is going to be special.
We really need to pump up Hefney, he is a pure athlete who can cover.
Ali Highsmith is impressive as well.
Demetrice Morley is a name to watch as well.

What a game! Took 3 days to fully scout!

This game was probably filled with the most PP's I have ever seen, props for taking it Adam. I agree with you on Meachem, huge breakout season! After watching him against Cal, I knew he was special.

Welcome to my world each week in the SEC. These games take a long time to scout and then write up. Kudos on taking it on!

LSU: I agree with you about Justin Vincent. I think he'll be a solid NFL RB, but he just doesn't fit the LSU offense... Keith Zinger is a guy has some sort of stomach issue. I'm surprised he played at all--I thought he was out for the season... Will Arnold is done for the season and will likely return to LSU next year... I'm getting the impression that Glenn Dorsey is ready to make the jump to the NFL. If he does, he might break into the first round.

Tennessee: Inky Johnson had a severe injury earlier in the season that caused some nerve damage. There's a fear that his football career is done... Turk McBride is an impressive player, but he'll likely have to move away from the center at the next level because of his size... I'm a little surprised with Wade and Hefney. My experience with them has been the direct opposite of yours in this game. I'll have to watch Hefney some more.

Thanks for some clarificaiton on those guys Jeff. This is the beauty of conference scouts!

Yeah, Hefney played unreal. 15 tackles, an INT and returned kicks. He was all over the place. I got a real good look at his legs, he is just ripped. Ive only seen the one game, but boy did he look good.

Haha, yeah it was tough for sure. I think Jeff is a great evaluator of talen, but there might be some stretches with some players. But better too many than too little.
