Cal led most of the game 17-0, but missed two FGs in the 2nd half and did not pick up a first down on 4th and 2 at the IUP end of the field with 2 minutes remaining. Those miscues prevented the Vulcans from winning their 2nd straight PSAC West title. Indiana rallied with two minutes left behind a gutsy performance by undersized PP QB Kevin Weidl to score on a 98-yard TD drive with just 47 seconds to go.

SCOUTING SUMMARY:

Jason Capizzi 78 6' 8.1" 318 5.30 OT 2007: The huge Pitt transfer shows potential at times, but lacks consistency. He does pretty well in pass pro--especially at this level, but he will never play LOT in the pros. May be best suited inside at guard, as he does not have ideal feel for LOT, nor does he seem compact and rugged enough for ROT. He may develop into a versatile backup with work in the weightroom and patient coaching. GRADE: Neutral

Kevin Weidl 7 6' 0.0" 190 4.85 QB 2007: Very mature and smart. Is a field general who makes good decisions. Threw three picks in this one, but two were bad tips that weren't his fault at all. Threw 2 TDs, including the 28-yard game winner with 47 seconds left. Short and throws with an awkward sidearm delivery which compounds his height disadvantage. Has some intangibles. CFL? GRADE: Positive

Chris Morgan 1 5' 11.7" 210 4.60 HB 2007: A diamond in the rough who lacks only NFL speed to play at that level. He is a downhill runner who picks the right hole and gets to it. He shows very good hands also. Nice size. Tough. Competes. Blocking is suspect. Did not start today, but that was just a ploy. Had over 140 yards rushing. Caught a 15-yard TD pass, and scored on a 5-yard run. Won this game for IUP. GRADE: Positive

NOTE: While Cal (PA) has no current prospects, both QB Joe Ruggiero and DE Kirby Griffin could be in the database next year. Ruggiero is a better pro prospect than Weidl and is 6'2", 195. Throws a very nice ball, and is a very seasoned 3-year starter. Griffin is a sack and TFL leader with decent size.

IUP's soph tailback, Brandon Lombardy, could be in the database in 2009.
