...but better late then never. This was a good overall game. UNC was inconsistant at time but showed some heart. Joe Dailey made some plays with his feet to find Future star Hakeem Nicks for some big plays. However, Notre Dame just has too much firepower on the offensive side of the ball. Notre Dame's D-line put on a lot of pressure but the backers and d-backs didnt impress me all that much. In the end ND's offensive stars were just to much for the Tar Heels

College: North Carolina Conference: Atlantic Coast Columnist: Bill Gahagan
Name # Ht Wt Speed Pos Class Game Notes

Kareen Taylor 27 6' 0.0" 200 0.00 S 2007: Not very impressed with his play. He missed a few tackles and doesnt stick his nose in on the run. Grade: D

College: Notre Dame Conference: IA Independents Columnist: Jeff Carnahan
Name # Ht Wt Speed Pos Class:

Brady Quinn 10 6' 4.0" 231 4.70 QB 2007: His numbers were absolutly great on this day. He was given all day to throw and he made UNC pay. Had a great game throwing 3-step. IMHO it seems to me that he waited to long to make a decision throwing, since he had all the time in the world this didnt hurt him. Dont get me wrong this guy is the real deal and should battle it out with Brohm for #1 QB taken. Grade: A-

Rhema McKnight 5 6' 2.0" 212 0.00 WR 2007: Had a big days with 2 rec. td's. Showed great hands and good route running. At times he didnt come back for the ball and waited for it to come to him. Grade: B

Victor Abiamiri 95 6' 4.0" 260 0.00 DE 2007: Great motor on Victor. Was always in Dailey's face coming off the edge. Very fast and strong: Grade: B+

Ryan Harris 68 6' 5.0" 288 0.00 OT 2007: Best lineman on the team. That says a lot with this group. Even a bit undersized he's a great blocker. Moved very well and kept Quinns backside protected all day. What impressed me is that he always kept leverage on the defender and never lost his balance. Good pass blocker as well. Grade: A-

Jeff Samardzija 83 6' 5.0" 215 0.00 WR 2007: Broke ND's all-time rec. TD record. Showed great hands and tough to tackle. Great size at 6'5". Had huge day recieving. Goes up and makes a play on the ball at its highest point. Grade: A-

John Sullivan 78 6' 4.0" 298 0.00 C 2007: Not to impressed with John. Had two holding penalties called on him because of not moving his feet. Grade: C-

Tom Zbikowski 9 6' 1.0" 208 0.00 S 2007: Tom had a average day. Made a few plays in the flats playing defense. Took a poor angle on one play that gave up a large gain. Returned a punt for a TD. Shows great speed and return skills. Not sold on his coverage skills however. Grade: B-

Darius Walker 3 5' 10.0" 208 0.00 HB 2008: Darius is a tough runner. Always falls forward and shows patience running the ball waiting for the hole to open. Had a few receptions as well. Might make a good 3rd down back in the NFL. Grade: B

Dan Santucci 50 6' 4.0" 290 0.00 OG 2007: Had a lot of double team blocks with Sullivan. Isnt the most agile guy but sufficient. On one occasion was exposed by a DT using a swim move. Grade: C

Bob Morton 76 6' 4.0" 292 0.00 OG 2007: Bob did a great job of picking up blitzes on a few occasions. Plays with a lot of emotion. Grade: C+

Derek Landri 66 6' 3.0" 277 0.00 DT 2007: Very quick at the snap. Was in backfield to disrupt a few runs. Was double teamed quite a bit but showed a great rip move to break free. Grade: B+

Ambrose Wooden 22 5' 11.0" 197 0.00 CB 2008: Had a few chances to make a break on the ball but didnt react in time. Missed a few tackles.
Grade: C-

Chinedum Ndukwe 18 6' 2.0" 219 0.00 S 2007: Had an up and down game in my opinion. Made some great plays, almost intercepting a ball and then had a few missed tackles. Plays aggresive. Grade: B-

John Carlson 89 6' 6.0" 250 0.00 TE 2007: Great reciever over the middle and will always fall foward and get you the extra yards. Also has the ability to make big plays down the field. I was very impressed with his blocking abilities!!! Grade: A-

Future Star:

Hakeem Nicks WR for UNC--- This guys shows flashes of greatness. Made big plays all day and is a freshman. Has great speed and ability to make guys miss. A ton of potential!!

Nice report wink.gif .

What did you think of Samardzija's blocking?

What did you think of Ronnie McGill for UNC?
fobbe
The times I did notice Jeff blocking he was a so-so blocker. He was holding his own but not moving guys out of the way.

As for Ronnie McGill, hes a very powerful runner. Has decent speed and breaks tackles. I'm just not quite sure if he has everything you need to be a back in the NFL. Possible backup or 3rd string at best.

Martin what do you think about TE John Carlson?

PatriotofMaine
Moving Zbikowski down on this recommendation.

Do you think we have McKnight slotted about right in the top 100, Craig?
fobbe
I'm not going to comment on that Steve. I think he's a great receiver with exceptional hands. I say he is right on in the positional rankings, but not quite sure in the top 100. Not real sure of what kind of speed he has.
PatriotofMaine
Fair enough. Thanks man.

Yeah I noticed in the Navy game he wasn't blocking particularly well so I wanted another opinion. I think he is only using his size when he blocks.

As for John Carlson I love him! He is so tough after the catch, block well, and has soft hands. The only beef I have with him is he is not quick or fast. He reminds me a lot of Ken Dilger but has more potential.

Huh.. Carlson is a Sr. and has no player profile. MC to the rescue again.

.... *hint *hint he should probably be somewhere in the top 10 for Sr TEs.

Hint taken... mission accomplished. It's easy to forget about players when they aren't in the database. smile.gif
bredden
He is a senior, but a fourth year senior. He could come back. So could Zibby.

Carlson is lacking speed but is very impressive as a football player. I'm not a guy that bases his value on he can bench 225 ,45 times, run a 4.41 40 and has a 12 broad jump. When has a guy been asked to stand still and jump during a football game? This is probably in the wrong topic but I needed to get that off my head. Haha!!
DaveJ
Craig, I strongly agree with you. The Combine and Pro Days have their importance but I think a lot of people place too much importance on "the numbers" instead of the real meat of the matter-- whether or not the guy can flat out play.

Anyway, good to see you on here again. It's always a plus to read reviews from someone who has a lot of recent experience playing college football.
fobbe
Well I had to get it off my chest. I didnt play at a High level in college, but the NAIA has a few diamonds in the rough. I personally think just because they play NAIA or DIII, doesnt mean they cant play at the top level. Just baffles me as to why not that many guys are given a chance. Maybe I'm a little bitter myself!!! smile.gif
PatriotofMaine
Man, you DID play at a high-level. Broke JohnKitna's all-time records and couldn't even get in a camp.

You have every right to be a bit bitter.
fobbe
Haha Thanks Steve. I'm still working out trying to get into the AF2 possibly AFL. We'll see what happens. I'll have to get back in touch with Matt and see what he can help me with.
DaveJ
Yeah man don't sell yourself short. You did some amazing things at Morningside.
