In a game between perennial doormats, the Owls of Rice broke the hearts of the Pirates' faithful with a game-winning FG with 6 seconds left. ECU put on a beautiful lateral-fest on the ensuing kickoff in a desperate attempt to reach the endzone, but it was not to be. Rice is bowl eligible for the first time since around the time of the original Thanksgiving. Not much talent on either side, with ECU WR Aundrae Allison being the only player for either team with a realistic shot of being drafted.

SCOUTING SUMMARY:

College: Rice Conference: Conference USA Columnist: Jim ODell
Name # Ht Wt Speed Pos Class Game Notes

Dejuan Cooper 92 6' 2.0" 280 5.00 DT 2007: A decent college DT who is far too small to play there in the NFL. Will probably be a UDFA and looked at as a possible 3-4 DE, but has very little chance of sticking. Was in on 5 tackles. Must be handed a gap to get into the backfield. GRADE: Slightly negative

Courtney Gordon 98 6' 3.0" 255 4.85 DE 2007: A bit more upside than Cooper. Plays with pretty good intensity but lacks the physical package to be more than camp fodder. GRADE: Neutral

College: East Carolina Conference: Conference USA Columnist: Jim ODell

Aundrae Allison 2 6' 1.0" 191 4.54 WR 2007: I was looking to see what all the excitement is about, and frankly, I didn't find it. Certainly not a first-day candidate, IMHO. Catches pretty well, and has some YAC moves, but does not wow you in anything he does. Blocks OK, but not nearly enough. Catches with his hands. Works hard to get open. GRADE: Neutral

James Pinkney 7 6' 3.0" 210 4.75 QB 2007: Nothing but a pure running_QB in this one. Did throw a 5-yard TD. Adequate mid-major collegiate QB...that's about all you can say. GRADE: Slightly negative.

Jamar Flournoy 6 6' 0.0" 209 4.70 S 2007" A pretty active guy in run support. Didn't have to do much in coverage. Really hard to grade him in pass pro based on just one performance versus a subpar QB and set of receivers for Rice. What I saw, I liked though. GRADE: Slightly positive

Eric Graham 78 6' 6.0" 325 5.35 OT 2007: Certainly looked the part early on before getting hurt early in the first quarter. GRADE: Inc.

Kasey Ross 17 6' 0.0" 180 4.55 CB 2007: Most impressive player in the game. Had a PD, a TFL and was involved in run support constantly. Need to see more of his pass coverage, but he certainly has the run support role down pat. GRADE: Positive

Other notes: ECU has two D-linemen we may be talking about in the future: #92 Hand, and #97 Chavous. Rice's #97 William Wood is OK too...just off the database, IMO.
