The Aggies lead this series by a wide margin, and their dominance continued for a 7th-straight year, as they rallied from an early deficit to claim a 30-16 win over the Hornets of Sac State. Sacramento's WR Jason Barnes introduced himself to me in this one, and it was a very impressive introduction.

SCOUTING SUMMARY:

College: U. Cal-Davis Conference: Great West Columnist: Jeff Carnahan
Name # Ht Wt Speed Pos Class Game Notes

John Grant 12 6' 2.7" 200 4.85 QB 2007: Extremely streaky guy who was horrible in the first half, and very good in the second. From what I am hearing this Jekyl and Hyde act is common for him. Nice size, and shows good pocket presence. Sidearms it at times and really throw some dumb balls. Ken O'Brien came from this school, but even though Grant has similar career stats, he is not nearly the PP that O'Brien was prior to playing for the Jets. GRADE: Neutral

Jonathan Barsi 30 6' 1.0" 205 4.70 S 2007: Most impressive defensive performance for either team. Picked off three passes--taking one to the house, had a 64-yard kick return, was constantly involved in run support too. Hard to gauge what he would look like against IA athletes, but he sure looked good in this one. GRADE: Positive

Elliot Vallejo 67 6' 6.5" 320 5.25 OT 2007: A big guy who moves pretty well, and is not just a big guy. He is properly positioned at ROT for this club, though most IAA teams (and a lot of IA's too) probably would have played him at LOT, because he has pretty decent feet for an ROT. Hits hard in the running game. Motor is pretty good. Looks like he is a self-built natural athlete with room to grow. GRADE: Slightly Positive

Tony Kays 85 6' 1.0" 195 4.56 WR 2007: Nothing special, though he has been Grant's go-to guy all year. Gets open and will catch it. lacks the big-league wheels, or the size a 4.55 guy needs to be succesful at the next level. GRADE: Neutral

College: Sacramento State Conference: Big Sky Columnist: Sam Maxwell

Tyson Butler 43 6' 0.5" 250 4.80 LB 2007: Nothing to write home about. He was there and was in on a few plays, but needed to dominate at this level to have any prayer of the next, and didn't show me nearly enough. GRADE: Negative

Jason Barnes 12 6' 3.6" 215 4.60 WR 2007: This guy made scouting the whole game enjoyable. He must have averaged about 25 YPC and had to have at least 200 yards in receptions. See my writeup. I know this may sound overly dramatic, but I was reminded of a guy about his size who used to play for Marshall, while he was playing for Marshall--guy named Moss...GRADE: Very positive

Other notes:

Grant went 21 of 36 for 312 yards owht 1/2, but I was hoping to see some consitency despite all th production, and saw exactly the opposite. he has NFL size though, but that delivery is weird.

Sac State's #42 Cyrus Militoao (Sp?) is going to be a STUD! Draftable guy for 2008 for sure. He is one mean Mike. Reminds me a little of USC's Malaleuga.
