I only caught the second half of this game but it was enough to get a good look and impression of my conference players, thank you Auntie V's satellite T.V. cool.gif .

John Beck 12 6' 2.0" 212 0.00 QB 2007: If John Beck is not a first day pick it will be a travesty. This guy has quick deciveness, a soft touch, strong arm, and good pocket awareness. He literally came back and scored twice in the 4th quarter when BYU needed a touchdown. He may not be a loud vocal leader but he best leads by example. John does not have the physical tools or set that Peyton Manning does but he makes the same type of throws and decisions as him and may make a better transition to the NFL in a Colt's style of offense. It would be interesting if the Cougars did not have such good pass protection. Grade: Very Positive.

Curtis Brown 6 6' 0.0" 205 0.00 HB 2007: A poor man's Walter Payton maybe. He makes smooth spin moves and jukes just like the Sweetness and has the strong lower body and hands of Walter too. Curtis looks a lot taller than his 6'0'' height and could add some weight to his frame without losing any speed. He did not have such a great first half but the second was a bit brighter. I would like to see him in a more run oriented offense. Grade: Slightly Positive.

Cameron Jensen 35 6' 2.0" 241 0.00 LB 2007: A monster who flies all over the field and lays everything out on the line. The leader of a large group of good LBs he knows where to be and how to get there. He's not fast but quick, makes good reads, and runs hard to the ball. He's better suited for a 4-3 defense since he does not shed tackles all to effectively. Grade: Slightly Positive.

Nathan Meikle 9 5' 9.0" 175 0.00 WR 2007: Did he play? Grade: Inc.

Jonny Harline 13 6' 4.0" 240 0.00 TE 2007: Three touchdowns on the day for this kid. Has good concentration and hand-eye coordination. He has good speed for a TE, does not use his body like a TE though. Blocking duties are usually relegated to Dan Coats since Jonny is usually running a route somewhere on the field. Grade: Positive.

Dan Coats 20 6' 3.0" 263 0.00 TE 2007: Somewhat of a break out performance for this kid today. He made several key receptions in the game with a touchdown catch to add. He doesn't have elite speed or height which makes you think he won't be much of a factor in the passing game, today he did though. Dan showed a knack for the soft spot in zone coverage and showed extension to make the catches. If he is drafted it will be for his blocking skills. When Dan blocks he finesses and takes control to seal the corner or edge. Grade: Positive.

Hala Paongo 70 6' 2.0" 280 0.00 DT 2007: He is small for a NT especially in a 3-4 scheme I wish I could of seen him in a 4-3 or cover 2 scheme. Hala is not completely invisible to his avail, he will make himself known on stunts and gets more than the average amount of push for a DT of his weight. Grade: Neutral.

Casey Evans 31 6' 0.0" 200 0.00 S 2007: He is a cheater of some sorts in pass coverage always trying to get a little extra nudge or grab. If he would turn his head around on half is plays for the ball then maybe he wouldn't get in trouble so much. To give Casey credit he is quick and breaks to the ball hard. Eric Weddle is what he is not. Grade: Slightly Negative.

Tavo Tupola 78 6' 4.0" 300 0.00 OG 2007: Tavo is a guy that could make the transition to OT if he needed to, he has good footwork. Only one holding penalty on the day which probably wouldn't of made a difference since the guy was already falling to the ground. Grade: Slightly Positive.

Eric Weddle 32 6' 0.0" 200 0.00 S 2007: A fine day for both of the MWC's best players; John Beck and Eric Weddle. Eric reads the QBs eyes well and makes necessary coverage adjustments to stop the ball. He stopped one touchdown pass and nearly stopped another, he nearly had it and if it wasn't for his heigth. I liked the aggresiveness he displayed in the game and the fact that he plays corner in goal-line situations. Grade: Positive.

Jason Boone 69 6' 4.0" 300 0.00 OT 2008: Overall a good day with the exception of one play where he took care of the outside pressure instead of the inside. If he keeps those mental mistakes on the down low then he could become a solid first day draft choice next year. Grade: Slightly Positive.

Brett Ratliff 15 6' 4.0" 224 0.00 QB 2007: Brett did everything he could to try and upset the Cougars. He threw for over 250 yards and score three touchdowns. Brett has good enough accuracy and heigth to become a late round draft choice. He is not a bad runner and knows when and when not to run. Grade: Positive.

Brian Hernandez 16 6' 0.0" 175 0.00 WR 2007:
Same with Nathan Meikle, did he play or not? Grade: Inc.

Paul Soliai 90 6' 4.0" 320 5.15 DT 2007: Paul is a guy who could rise come near draft day. His size helps him deflect passes, which he has an eye for, and block kicks, one today which nearly decided the victor of the game. The defensive scheme had him more in a QB contain today since it seemed like he would only rush to a certain point then stop either to deflect the pass or make sure John Beck didn't up and decide to run. Grade: Positive.
