The Sooners' 21-7 victory over No. 19 Nebraska in the Big 12 title game Saturday night earned them a berth in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day. Senior QB Paul Thompson threw two toucdowns to rising star sophomore wideout Malcolm Kelly and the Sooner defense harassed Cornhusker signal caller Zac Taylor all day long.

Name # Ht Wt Speed Pos Class Game Notes
Adam Carriker 90 6' 5.5" 290 4.88 DE 2007: Was double teamed all by OT Chris Messner and company, and was not a factor at all, although he did allpy pressure a few times, forcing Thompson out of the pocket on roll outs. He does have a motor that does not quit for a big pass rushing end.

Matt Herian 11 6' 4.5" 245 4.70 TE 2007 :Did a great impression of the invisible man. Was thrown to once and it was badly overthrown.

Jay Moore 44 6' 4.0" 280 0.00 DE 2007 :Had a great time playing against a true freshman, tackle Trent Williams, sacking Thompson once and making a great tackle for loss on the two yard line. ANother big defensive end with a high motor.

Zac Taylor 13 6' 2.0" 210 0.00 QB 2007: Was constantly under pressure by the tough, fast Sooner defense, Taylor did not have what I call a normal Zac Taylor game. He did throw one touchdown, but was running for his life most of the game.

Bo Ruud 51 6' 2.5" 235 4.70 LB 2008: Starting slowly, but was in Thompson's face on one play, causing him to throw an interception. This was the first game I actually saw Rudd in on some plays. He'll be a factor in 2007.

Andrew Shanle 8 6' 1.0" 210 4.60 S 2007: Another defender who palyed well. Shanle had the pick Rudd caused with his pressure, and was in on several tackles and defended a few pases. He had to pick up the slack, since cornerback Grixby was getting picked on by the Thompson/Kelly combo.

Rufus Alexander 42 6' 1.0" 231 0.00 LB 2007:Was named 2006 Big 12 defensive player of the year for a reason. Started slowly, but he laid a sick hit on RB Brandon Jackson, causing him to leave the game with an injured hand. IS the heart and soul of this defense.

Larry Birdine 92 6' 3.0" 258 0.00 DE 2007: Was not that much of a factor today, as the young Husker line contained him for most of the day.

Zack Latimer 46 6' 2.0" 232 0.00 LB 2007 : Had a nice game himself, batting a pass away and pressuring Taylor on a few occasions.

Chris Messner 79 6' 6.0" 280 0.00 OT 2007: Did a fantastic job containing Adam Carriker today. Carriker's name was mentioned twice the whole game, thanks for the most part to Messner.

Calvin Thibodeaux 58 6' 1.0" 255 0.00 DE 2007: Had a coverage sack, but that was the only time I heard his name called throughout the contest.

C.J. AhYou 99 6' 4.0" 272 0.00 DE 2007: CJ worked hard throughout the game, sacking Taylor twice and causing a fumble recovered by Alexander. This guy never stops and that will work to his advantage at the pro level.

D.J. Wolfe 25 6' 0.0" 196 0.00 CB 2008 :Came in and replaced injured starter Marcus Walker and promptly picked off Taylor late in the first half. A name to keep handy for next season.

2 words for the future of Oklahoma: Malcom Kelly,a nd for Nebraska's running game for 2007, look for Brandon Jackson to be a star.

BTW I had read where there was a question about Ah You playing DT some this season. Thats a defensive formation were they put 3 DEs on the line and blitz extra dbs they have on the field in passing situations..

Thanks Nolen!

Jim,

Nice report man. I also watched this one. I am think C.J. and Latimer both get drafted. And, I also think Shanle has a shot.
BarnabyWilde
Thanks. Shanle has been invisible in some of the Nebraska games I've seen, but he has looked good in others.

I did see Ah You play some DT in the game.
martino_cappachino
Jim,

Did you draw any opinions from Corey McKeon ILB in this game?
PatriotofMaine
Why is Nebraska DT Cryer (#94) not in the database? He's looked goou in every Nebraska game I've watched this year.
BarnabyWilde
Funny you mention Cryer. I was going over my notes and had his name written down and was checking his stats. I'll be adding him soon!

As for McKeon, I did not see much of him, nor know much about him, but I'll check!
