At halftime, with the score 10-3 Arizona St., the crowd was stunned. Not because of who was winning, but because of the low score. Colt Brennan and the high powered Hawaii offense managed just 3 points, and the equally powerful Arizona St. attack had scored just before the half. However, something at halftime changed as Hawaii came out and scored 38 points in the second half. Brennan ended up throwing for 559 yards, 308 of them to Jason Rivers, and 5 TD's. It was enough to make Brennan have the most TD's in a season in NCAA history. If Brennan throws for 28 TD's(probably a month's work for him) next season, he will be the all time leader in TD passes:

Hawaii PP's:

Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii- Not much to say about him other than that he carved up the ASU defense. 559 yards and 5 TD's, about as good as it gets. He threw the long ball well, the screen, just let his WR's do the work, he did it all. He had a perfect day after a less than impressive 1st half. He makes a lot of big time plays, and throws the ball very well on the run. He now has to decide if he wants to stay for another year, or go pro. I'd suggest staying one more year for him, as he still has just a few things to work on, and it just looks like he's having too much fun to leave.: A+

Nate Ilaoa, RB, Hawaii- 18 rushes for 97 yards, 4 receptions for 56 yards. I really liked his game. They called him a bowling ball and they were right now. The guy is still very quick, and let's not forget he's 247 pounds! When he gets out into the open is very a very strong runner and hard to bring down. He had a couple big plays called back on penalties. If it wasn't for the Colt Brennan show, we would've seen a lot more of him in the second half: B+

Melia Purcell, DE, Hawaii- I thought he quietly did a good job rushing the passer, but he along with the rest of the Hawaii dline was terrible against the run. : B-

Samson Satele, C, Hawaii- Physically dominating. Gave Brennan all day to throw and on the occasionally run, he did a pretty good job. This guy is huge, and just uses his size to blank the defender: A-

Arizona St. PP's:

Jesse Ainsworth, K, Arizona St.- Was 3 of 3 on his extra points, and did nail a 44 yard field goal in the 1st quarter. Did everything asked of him: A

Rudy Burgess, WR, Arizona St.- DNP

Andrew Carnahan, OT, Arizona St.- DNP

Zach Catanese, S, Arizona St.- Was pretty bad before he was taken out by an injury. The "cat" just was no much for the run and shoot offense of Hawaii: C-

Zach Miller, TE, Arizona St.- The All American must have spent too much time at the beach or something, because he simply did not come to play. He finished with 1 reception for 3 yards. I would've expected a huge game for him with 2 of ASU's top WR's out. You can't really blame the QB either, because Carpenter actually player rather well. Miller's routes weren't crisped and he just couldn't get a grip on anything. Had a couple big plays called back on penalties, but still...: D

Terry Richardson, WR, Arizona St.- DNP

This ends a horrible let down year for the Sun Devils. They came into the season with hopes of winning the Pac-10 crown and were ranked as high as 21. They finish the year at 7-6.

For Hawaii, they finish 10-3, and were just a touchdown away from beating Boise St. and winning the WAC crown. Their lowest scoring outout was 17 points in their first game of the year against Alabama. Their second lowest total was a whopping 32 points!

Thanks for the writeup Sam. I taped the game and haven't watched it yet, so this is a nice starting point.

What were your thoughts on:
Ikaika Alama-Francis (Hawai'i DE)
Leonard Peters (Hawai'i FS)
Tala Esera (Hawai'i OT)
Brandon Rodd (ASU OT)
Derron Ware (ASU LB)

Also, I did catch a couple minutes of the game. I think I remember Zach Miller making a nice TD grab that was called back because of a penalty. Did that happen or am I thinking of something else?

I'm gonna go back and rewatch it to check on those guys...

I don't know if I had too much egg nog the first time I watched this game or what, because when I went back and watched it for a second time, my thoughts on many players completely changed.

First off, Andrew Carnahan didn't even play. I completely missed this and I dont know how. Rodd, who is his replacement, I thought played alright. Rodd has a slow first step and was beat by nearly every speed rusher he faced. He just doesn't seem to have quick feet.

Esera, OT, Hawaii- He looked very good to me. He is very quick, and pulled a bunch of times . Hawaii ran nearly every running play to the left because Ilaoa's foot injury prevented him from cutting to the right, so Esera got a bunch of action.

Peters, S, Hawaii- when getting introduced by one of his players, he was called "The next Troy Polamalu". High praise for me so I watched him the whole game. He is always around the ball, and is a hard hitter. He struggled in covereage at times however.

Ware, LB, ASU- He was very good rushing the passer, but struggled beyond that. Missed a couple tackles, and didn't look good in coverage.

Alama-Francis, DE, Hawaii- He has a very good and wide range of nifty moves. The ASU oline contained him pretty well however, he did get through and put pressure on a few times though.

Also, I kept getting wowed by Nate Ilaoa(RB Hawaii), he is like a bowling ball. The guy is huge at 247 pounds and still has great speed. He was just running over guys and managed to have a bunch of big plays. Would've liked to see more of him in the second half.
