Calvin Johnson went out with a bang, putting on an impressive performance in the loss to West Virginia. Without the injured Steve Slaton, the Mountaineers scored the final 21 points of the game to come back and win it. Georgia Tech QB Reggie Ball was ruled academically ineligible, so back-up Taylor Bennett started in his place. Bennett was effective in the first half, but struggled mightily in the second half. Sophomore QB Pat White of West Virginia was brilliant, with three total touchdowns and 100+ yards on the ground as well as in the air.

Played with good leverage. Good burst. Showed ability as an inside pass-rusher. Registered one sack. Has a chance to go on day one.
GRADE: positive
Calvin Johnson 21 6' 4.0" 235 4.45 WR 2008
Had an incredible game. Impressive hand-eye coordination. Ran good routes. Scored a TD on a beautiful double-move where he left the DB in the dust. Another TD catch was a throw into triple coverage where he displayed his great leaping ability to jump up and snatch the ball at its highest point. Impressive physical specimen. Showed willingness to block in the running-game. Gary Danielson said it best: “He belongs in another league.” Could go as high as first overall. His final stats were nine catches for 186 yards and two touchdowns.
GRADE: very positive
Mansfield Wrotto 68 6' 3.0" 310 0.00 OT 2007 Inconsistent, but showed decent ability. Made a couple of nice blocks in the run-game, paving the way for HB Tashard Choice on the right side. Was solid in the first half, but struggled a bit in the second half, giving up one sack. He was also called for holding on one play.

DNP. Academically ineligible.

DNP. Academically ineligible.
Michael Matthews 48 6' 4.0" 270 4.95 TE 2007
Good blocker. Was effective in the run-game, and made a few key blocks on some plays. Not much of a receiving threat, but he did catch one pass for nine yards. Also fielded two kickoff returns, and showed good special teams potential. Probably will get a shot as a special-teamer in the NFL.
GRADE: positive
Darrell Robertson 90 6' 5.0" 240 0.00 DE 2008
Showed a good burst off the line, and good speed on the edge. Did not have a sack but showed a lot of potential as a pass-rusher. Struggled at times against the run, and will have to improve his game in that area. Needs to add bulk.
GRADE: neutral
KaMichael Hall 35 5' 11.5" 225 4.70 LB 2007
Was not a factor as a pass-rusher. Did not show great instincts, but made some stops. Limited value as a draft pick because of his size, but his speed might make him draftable.
GRADE: slightly negative

Jay Henry 42 6' 1.5" 225 4.73 LB 2007
The entire West Virginia defense struggled in this one, giving up almost 170 yards on the ground to HB Tashard Choice. Henry was not a factor in stopping the run, and struggled to stand out in pass defense also.
GRADE: negative
Dan Mozes 76 6' 3.0" 295 5.10 C 2007
Had another solid game. Was particularly effective blocking the interior defenders of Georgia Tech. Paved the way for QB Pat White on more than one occasion. Looked solid in pass-protection, but the Mountaineers ran a lot more than they passed.
GRADE: positive
Kevin McLee 43 6' 0.5" 255 4.60 LB 2007
Failed to show anything in terms of instincts and play-making. Was not a force in run defense, and did not show great speed getting back to cover.
GRADE: negative
Eric Wicks 41 6' 0.5" 210 0.00 S 2007
Made a few nice plays near the line of scrimmage but was not effective in coverage. Failed to make plays on balls in the air, as unproven QB Taylor Bennett shredded the Mountaineer secondary in the first half. Has good size, but lacks the range to be a legitimate safety in the NFL.
GRADE: negative
Jeremy Sheffey 65 6' 2.1" 290 0.00 OG 2007
Was effective in the running game for the most part but struggled at times. Somewhat quick, but probably lacks the size to be a pro OG. Struggled with Anoai on a few plays.
GRADE: neutral
Brandon Myles 7 6' 2.0" 190 4.37 WR 2007
Had a great game. Made a couple of excellent grabs. Showed good athleticism and great hand-eye coordination. Blocked well in the run-game. Smooth player with some upside, but didn’t have great production because of the running tendencies of his team. Has NFL speed. Had six catches for 57 yards and a touchdown.
GRADE: very positive
Owen Schmitt 35 6' 1.0" 250 4.60 FB 2008
Had an excellent game. Showed great potential as a ball-carrier. Blocked well, but was more impressive as a runner. His final stats were 13 carries for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Probably one of the top FB prospects for 2008.
GRADE: positive
