It's interesting reading the different reviews of the practices. One site says that Drew Stanton was erratic and struggled all day while another one says that he was the most accurate of the bunch and really helped himself.
Rob Rang said that Daymeion Hughes had one of the best performances by a CB that he has seen at the Sr. Bowl during Monday's practice and that Marcus McCauley looked a step slow and really struggled.
I'm amazed at how ten people can watch the same plays and each one will come up with a completely different conclusion.

Whatever momentum Hughes may have had yesterday, he lost today. He was beaten badly when forced into man-to-man--yesterday was all zone coverages. The question on Hughes has always been about his wheels--he just doesn't have elite speed. McCauley stood out today as the best one-on-one cover guy on that roster.

I really like Amobi Okoye, he is very young and from what I hear he can be unblockable when he wants to be

Me too. I talked to one scout in Mobile tonight, and he said he's really liked what he's seen of Amobi Okoye, yet there's lots of reports that he's not having a good start to his week. Ditto Ryan Kalil. I know one team that is super high on Troy Smith, while another doesn't consider him 1st-day talent. I was told there were only two guys there that are universally regarded as "wasting time"--Doug Datish and Steve Breaston.
Garrett Wolfe is out with injury, not good for his prospects. I didn't catch who is replacing him.

Im right with those people on Datish and Breaston. I never saw it! Breaston is the biggest underacheiver of all time. Wont even be a third option in the pros. Datish is a guy who is strictly living off Mangolds name.

Doug Datish looked completely overmatched in practice yesterday. He was routinely embarrassed by his own OSU teammates (Pitcock and Patterson).
I think (don't hold me to this) that Thomas Clayton (K State) was going to replace Garrett Wolfe. I know Clark Harris couldn't practice yesterday with a toe injury, so Ben Patrick took his place.
Hey ytse... have you heard anything about what direction the Browns may be headed come April? QB? RB? OT?

They'll take Brady Quinn if he's there, but won't deal to get him. They have no interest in Jamarcus Russell unless they could move way down to get him, which is a moot point. I know the Browns had a scout at every bowl game practice that Adrian Peterson was in, and they feel they have a bigger hole at RB than at QB. But AP's injuries and running style are huge red flags for them. I've heard both that they see him as the biggest impact player in this draft but also the biggest risk of bust/injury of any player on their board. Knowing Phil Savage and Randy Lerner, they'll take the safe pick.
And I really cannot see them using that high a pick on at OT, because their bigger OL needs are at G and C, as Bentley will not be able to play in 2007. Taking a lineman that high goes against Phil Savage's MO as well.
From what I hear, Joe Thomas to Detroit is as close to a lock as any pick in this draft. Russell is the #3 QB on their board.
Also--the Panthers
really like Drew Stanton 2nd round.

Steve Breaston has the potential to be Todd Pinkston with return potential but he NEEDS to rachet up his work ethic BIG time, I thought he would react in his senior year and to the emergence of Arrington and Manningham by stepping up, and though he holds on to the ball better than in the previous 2 seasons he simply never seemed confident or assertive, perhaps a different situation and staff can unlock his potential.
Amobi Okoye: What's not to LOVE, he's smart, big, quick, and STILL GROWING!! He has the potential to be a combination of Ted Washington in terms of strength at POA and Booger McFarland in terms of explosiveness! I like him better than the more polished Pitcock.
Marcus McCauley has a chance to be this year's Richard Marshall or Marlin Jackson, he could go late round 2 with impressive workouts.
Ryan Kalil is yet another prototypical Denver C/OG if he is a similar system he has a good chance to become a repeat pro bowler. I always thought Datish was a 3rd-4th round talent, with decent technique, but little else to offer.
Daymeion Hughes is a bigger, slower Ronde Barber and could thrive in a system that protects him from speed and allows him to watch the QB, like a Tampa 2 Deep scheme.
Dan Mozes needs to get stronger and overall needs to improve his conditioning a little, he seems to lose a little technique when he tires and he looked a little tired or perhaps he has the flu?
Drew Stanton is erratic, that's who he is you are getting a guy who has all the prototype QB attributes, except consistency.
LaMarr Woodley is a 4-3 end and once everybody realizes that and stops messing with his head with 3-4 OLB talk I bet he'll improve.

While watching the telecast last night on NFL network. They constantly talked about 3,5,and 6 technique. Do I have this right because they didn't explain it very well.
3 is when the defensive player lines up on the offensive lineman's outside shoulder.
5 is between the guard and tackle in a 3-4.
6 is straight up on the o lineman.
Thanks!

My understanding has always been that 5 is head up on the OT, 6 is on the TE. And 3 I've heard a couple of different ways.

The different numbered techniques refer to where the lineman or linebacker line up on the the line or just off the line.
0 Tech - directly over the center, or shading to either shoulder of the center
1 Tech - inside shoulder of the guard
2 Tech - directly over the guard
3 Tech - outside shoulder of the guard
4 Tech - inside shoulder of the tackle
5 Tech - directly over the tackle
6 Tech - outside shoulder of the tackle at a 45 degree angle
7 Tech - inside shoulder of the tight end at a 45 degree angle
8 Tech - directly over the tight end at a 45 degree angle
9 Tech - outside shoulder of the tight end at a 45 degree angle
So to use your example, a 3 technique player would be a quicker, smaller, penetrating tackle in a 4-3 defense (Tommie Harris). A 5 technique player would be a big 2-gapping end in a 3-4 (Richard Seymour). A 6 technique player would be a quick, pass rushing end in a 4-3 (Dwight Freeney).
I hope that answers your question.

The NFL network stuff is the best I can get as well. Boo McLee is another guy that hasn't done a thing from what I've watched there, but I'm not in Mobile so who am I to judge. I think Singletary is awesome, he is a joy to watch coach these kids. I am extremely happy with the weigh-ins posted. Did you guys have eyes on these guys? Who all passed the "eye test" as far as you guys are concerned, and who looks like they have no room to grow but needs to bulk up, and who looked like 300 lbs of bird crap? I think its fun to see how these guys react to coaching on TV you can see some of them roll their eyes, and you can see some of the guys will look at the coach when he's talking to them but you can tell it all went in 1 ear and out the other. It really is a select few that will ask the coach a ? to better understand, or really take a few seconds go thru the motions he was corrected on and fully process it. Very interesting stuff!

Thanks... that's what I had figured. I think Peterson has a chance to slide more than expected because of those injuries.

From what I hear, Joe Thomas to Detroit is as close to a lock as any pick in this draft. Russell is the #3 QB on their board.
Also--the Panthersreally like Drew Stanton 2nd round.
QB wasn't the issue in Detroit last fall. Kitna is good enough to run the show if he has time to do so. They'll look at QB through a later draft pick or free agency.
As for the Panthers, they spent a lot of time talking to Kevin Kolb too - and he's outshined Stanton so far in the regular season and the Senior Bowl. I just wonder if Kolb will still be around for the Panthers in round 2.

Unfortunately we don't have anyone from this site down in Mobile this year. Plans fell through last minute, so we're getting the reports from friends or our own observations of the practices as broadcast on NFL Network.
From what I understood, the player who had scouts in awe of his physique was Daniel Sepulveda -- yes, a punter! Apparently the entire Nebraska contingent was impressive. The only player I heard anything negative about was Justin Blalock, who looked soft.

What's the vibe from Atlanta? We usually don't lock into any prospects this early, but have you gotten a feel for who they might look at in rounds 2 and 3?
Also, have you heard of any offers being passed around for Matt Schaub?

I just watched some videos from Monday's practice and I found it interesting that Brian Leonard dropped weight to show everyone that he wants to be a HB in the NFL. it shows he is a team player that he was the star RB for 3 years and than Ray Rice came along and he moved to FB his senior year even though he obviously wants to be a RB

Daniel Sepulveda reminds me of Matt Payne from BYU, [though he is more consistent and doesn't PK] in that he walked on as a LB and still lifts like one the most impressive thing is he has mid to low 4.6 speed!

The obvious choice is for them to go either SS or FS in round one. They're very old at SS and very weak at FS. They need young depth at CB, so they could go there in rounds 2/3 and they will also probably let Patrick Kerney walk as he's probably looking for one more big contract, so DE opposite Abraham is a need.
As for Matt Schaub... they'll tender him at the highest level to deter any suitors and then they'll match any offers made. There is NO way that they'll let him leave Atlanta.

There's no questioning Brian Leonard's character and dedication to the team. Scouts love his maturity and self-sacrificing manner. The issue with Leonard is that the scouts want him to regain those 15 pounds so he's more FB than HB. Even without the weight, he's not quite fast enough or explosive enough to be a true HB.

Brian Leonard's best value and chances are a West Coast Offense pass catching FB. IMHO.

Interesting stuff on the Lions and Browns...
It is my opinion that the Lions won't pass on Brady Quinn and the Browns won't pass on Adrian Peterson. However, I understand the school of thought in passing on them, but I just don't think that's the decision each team will make when it's all said and done.
Even if the Lions prefer Thomas over Quinn right now, it is my guess that Millen will be under a lot of pressure to take the QB after passing on Matt Leinart last year. The Tom Brady comparisons will surely have the people in Detroit hopeful. Plus, let's remember this: we're talking about Jon Kitna. Besides being old, he's just simply not that good. Sure he's good enough to maybe take a good team to the playoffs, but he'll never be anything more than a valuable back-up IMO.
As for the Browns, I definitely can see why they are not thrilled with the explosiveness of their running-game. Adding Peterson would instantly spark the offense. Alan Branch would be tempting for Romeo and Savage, but when it's all said and done, I think they'll learn from the Texans and go for the stud HB over the stud DL. This hinges on Peterson's physical condition first and foremost, though. If he checks out as healthy, I doubt they pass on him. Remember, this is a guy with all the talent in the world, similar to Reggie Bush in that he is a threat to score each time he touches it. In some ways he's even more attractive to the NFL guys because of his potential to be a grinder as well as a big-play guy. Without the injury history, he's the front-runner for #1 pick, and no one has him falling to #8 to Houston. Like I said, if he checks out as healthy, I doubt he falls past Cleveland at 3 or 4.
Anything can happen though.

but this guy ran a 4.5, many RBs in the NFL don't run that fast, I think he will surprise at the combine with a faster time than that. the guy has good vision if he wants to be a HB which he does I think he can be

So, we'll go backwards no matter what is what you're saying? We'll let one of the most solid DEs in the league walk, so we can keep a back up QB who'd do more for us in a trade than with the team.
Even if you don't like Vick, we could draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round (after trading Schaub, and if Vick screws up this year the incoming rookie could take over in '08.
If they're seriously looking at keeping Schaub at Kearney's expense, I will be so ******* pissed.
Can this franchise take a ******* step forward one time during my lifetime?

I sat and watched game tape of Brian Leonard last spring with scouts from about 8-10 different NFL teams and the thing they all kept saying about Leonard was what a great player he was, but they couldn't project him as a HB because of lack of explosiveness getting into the holes and they also questioned him as a FB because of his smaller size. I don't have any doubt that Leonard will be drafted, and probably in the 3rd round, but he will not make his living as a HB.
As for LeRon McClain, he'll be drafted sometime early on the second day. Nearly every team still uses a FB in some form or another and there are plenty of teams that could use his talents. Personally, he's my favorite FB in this draft. He's a devastating lead blocker who can blow up LBs and DBs, he's good in blitz pickup, he can run the ball (although he doesn't do it often) and is also a nice threat out of the backfield in the passing game.
