Lets talk all things "Buc Ball"
Well to get things rolling, their seems to be a lot of talk concerning the Bucs #1rd pick.
Favourites seem to be Calvin Johnson and Joe Thomas, but who do we pick if these two are off the board?
Is their a Top 5 Defender in the Draft?
If Quinn or Russell are available, would we pick them?

If Calvin Johnson falls to #4, they have to take him. Joey Galloway is still somewhat of a threat, but he's aging. Michael Clayton is not nearly as talented as Calvin Johnson. Gruden probably would not pass on Calvin.
Joe Thomas is also a distinct possibility. However, if Calvin's on the board also, I think they wait until later to address OT.
I think if Joe Thomas and Calvin Johnson are both off the board, the Bucs will look at DE, Gaines Adams or Jamaal Anderson. Simeon Rice is getting older, and the defense could really use another stud pass-rusher. If they don't go for a DE, I'd guess they look at Alan Branch, DT, Michigan.
As for Quinn or Russell, I really doubt they'd go for either of them, considering they extended Chris Simms' deal already and got some production from rookie QB Bruce Gradkowski. Gradkowski wasn't great, but he gained experience, and is still young, and I'd guess he'll compete with Simms for the starting job next year.

I can't agree with the reasoning behind Simms re-signing.
Gruden will have the oppotunity to work with Quinn at the Senior Bowl week, and if he should feel he could be our franchise QB?, (who we've all wanted) I think he'd be hard pushed to pass him-up.
With Simms in place, Quinn could ride the pine until he's ready.
Having said all that, I doubt like most that Quinn will be their at #3, especially #4.

Well w/this being Grudens last chance at saving his job he can't afford to draft a QB. He obviously proved he needs way to much time to do a less then mediocre job at development. What can he do in a year w/Quinn or Russell. He can't take that risk and if Cj goes it's not the end of the world. We still have defensive holes we need filled. Yah, we're not stacked at receivers, but all our QB's suck!! Might as well try to strengthen our D up for Marty cause our O line ain't gonna be anything until we can get a decent franchise QB and Muir and Gruden get canned.

Bears fan here, I missed your guys old jerzees. They are one of my favorites, with the exception of the powder blue SD throw back jerzees. In my opinion I would think you guyes have a good team. But for needs and age factors. You need O-line, WR and a later round QB. Not sold on Simms or Bruce(pooor mans vin deisel) gradkowski.

i was a big simms backer for a while there, and thought that he could really have potential in tampa. however, i just don't think he's quite right to run the offense gruden wants him to run.

I don't know that he couldn't run Gruden's offense...but there's little doubt there's no love lost between the two. I caught, and responded to a post you made in the Bear's forum, and Simms might be just the answer for the Bears QB situation...assuming he fully recovers from his injury. I liked both his potential...and his lineage...and if he's healthy, I think he can still become a quality NFL QB.

NYYJONES I would take Simms right now. He would be a more talented version of orton, as far as a game manager( a phrase I am not a fan of). Just another guy to ponder is pennington, smart player, but lacks the deep ball. He might be better off in ATL or MIA, then he can play almost all of his games inn good weather or a dome. His hands are small and doesn't play well in the elements. I do beleive he is better than he has shown in recent history.

it's not so much that he couldn't run the offense....i should have put that better. i just don't think his game meshed well with what gruden wanted to do on offense.

Apparently, now that Gruden has his 3 year extension, he's in the market for a young QB that can be groomed for the future. Gruden likes QBs with high completion percentages, and the QB that seems to be interesting the Bucs right now, is Josh Johnson, the QB from San Diego.

Memo to John Gruden:
If you cut Chris Simms, get him a one way flight ticket to Atlanta will you? I for one wouldn't mind seeing him there...he can't do any worse than what we've already got.
Bucs fans, what do you see as being the key things you need to do this offseason?

Simms would be a nice fit, he is more like like Schaub than any other QB in the league.

Flacco in the 2nd or Booty in the 3rd or Johnson in the 4th all make sense.

Cut Jeremy Stevens...
Memo to the rest of the NFL:
Let this pompous ass work for a living.
If any CDS readers have daughters, sisters, granddaughters, or girlfriends, Jeremy Stevens is one guy you would never want them to meet up with...don't believe me...read this, and be forewarned!

Tampa kicks off Free Agency w/ a little more than 44 Milion in Cap Space.
At just a little past midnight, Tampa signs C Jeff Faine to a multi-year deal making him the highest paid Center in the league. Although similar to John Wade, Fine is younger and stronger.
Tampa has already given physicals to Alge Crumpler & DT Rod Coleman who were recently released by Atlanta. Tampa has already begun contract negotiations with Coleman's agent, who should demand a high price thanks to Oakland's outrageous deal w/ Tommy Kelly.
Tampa has lined up a meeting w/ MLB Nikko Koutevides from Seattle & Demorrio Williams from Atl to back up Barrett Rudd.
Tampa has spoke with WR DJ Hackett's agent but no meeting has been scheduled. According to Hackett's agent, Tampa has their eye on other FA's.
My wish is for Tampa to sign Coleman as a DT and trade for DeWayne Robertson to serve as an UT.
Draft rumors are the Bucs are enamored with Jonathan Stewart and Mendenhall.

Perhaps young Mr. Simms will force the issue...
http://www.tampabay.com/sports/football/bu...ticle615273.eceFunny how Gruden won't let Simms, a high character guy go, yet will bring in a real bottom of the barrel type in Stevens. I've been reading some Buc fans posts on their local boards...a good many of them seem to think Gruden doesn't like Simms, but is afraid if he does let him go that he might come back to haunt him by succeeding someplace else. I think it's funny how Simms is now talking, and not mincing any words about his coach.
