Latest from Seahawk-land...

-Free agent OG Kris Dielman is visiting today and should leave Seattle with a contract offer.

-RFA OT D.J. Hackett has received the 2nd round tender offer and will either remain a Seahawk or will give the Hawks another 2nd round pick if they fail to match another team's offer.

-RFA OT Sean Locklear received the 1st round tender offer.

-Seahawks have expressed interest in DE Patrick Kerney, and OG Eric Steinbech.

-The Jaguars have emerged as a potential suitor for WR Darrell Jackson. Seattle has been shopping him. Reportedly, a first-day draft pick would be the cost of Jackson, who is upset with his contract situation.
gpngc
UPDATE:

-Kris Dielman re-signed with San Diego. It looks like OG will be looked at in the draft. Ben Grubbs of Auburn, Josh Beekman of Boston College, or Samson Satele of Hawaii are all possibilities with the Hawks 2nd rounder.

-TE Daniel Graham will visit Seattle soon, and the Hawks are the front-runners to sign him.

-DE Patrick Kerney will visit Seattle soon as well, and could be signed to be re-united with former HC Jim Mora Jr., who is the Seahawks secondary coach.
martino_cappachino
Seattle signed Patrick Kerney today. Something like a 6-year $39 million contract with a $19.5 million signing bonus. Should play opposite of Wistrom for at least the next 2-3 years. Expect to see a lot of plays from the LBs with two solid run-defending DEs and big Marcus Tubbs in the middle. Bryce Fisher likes the move and is willing to play a backup role according to what he said on the radio.
gpngc
MC, what are you hearing about Darrell Jackson? Jaguars talking trade? Also, Daniel Graham, Deon Grant, and Cooper Carlisle??? How great would it be if we could sign those three...
martino_cappachino
Well Graham just signed with the Broncos, so we'll probably end up trying to resign Stevens. I haven't seen Grant play personally but I hear he's a good cover safety. Haven't heard anything new about Jackson..
TOPBANANA
Hi

These are the guys I want for the sehawks by May

G - Carlisle, Lehr, Wrotto, Duckworth Ramirez

S - Grant, Stone, Alexander

DT - Pitcock, Johnson, Solali

Bold are in draft and realistic targets.

If we get one from each of those categories i'm happy.
martino_cappachino
SEAHAWKS RELEASED GRANT WISTROM !
gpngc
Upgrade at DE because of Kerney....
gpngc
Seahawks have signed TE Marcus Pollard. They've also expressed interest in OG Edwin Mulitalo. I would be thrilled if we landed Mulitalo...
martino_cappachino
Well they seem to be shoring up their needs very soundly through FA. Do you think they'll go BPA during the draft?

Do you think they might go TE to replace Stevens who just got busted for DUI again?
Zach Miller is probably their in the 2nd. Pollard isn't really going to stretch the seam.
gpngc
Zach Miller is who I want. His 40-time will make him fall to us in rd. 2. A Ruskell type player because he's not a workout warrior, but rather a good football player. In 2006 he didn't have great stats, but caught at least one pass in every game he played. He scored 14 career TDs and had over 50 catches in two of his three seasons at ASU. If he's still there when Seattle picks in rd. 2, I say make Miller the pick!
martino_cappachino
So it looks like our first three picks will be TE, S, and OG. Is one of them an overwhelming need above the rest? Or do you think they just pick the BPA of the culminating three positions? I'd be really happy if we drafted two out of the following list: Ben Grubbs, Josh Beekman, Justin Blaylock, Manuel Ramirez, Josh Gattis, Sabby Piscitelli, Eric Weddle, John Wendling, Zach Miller, Matt Spaeth, Scott Chandler, Joe Newton, and Ben Patrick.
gpngc
With the signing of Brian Russell, I don't think we'll address S that early. I think we'll go with one of the following:

Grubbs, Ramirez, Sears, Beekman, Blalock

and then one of the following:

Miller, Spaeth, Patrick
gpngc
MC any word on who we've had for a visit?
martino_cappachino
Bucs apparently signed Jerramy Stevens.. but who cares? We signed Joe Newton as an UFDA biggrin.gif! I hear we signed Tim Mixon too. Also we might of signed some of these guys: Cameron Jensen, Logan Payne, Patrick Ghee, and C.J. Wallace.
gpngc
Season is almost here. I'm starting to get excited...
nyyjones
Nice offense...still, where's the D? If they couldn't stop Sproles, imagine playing LT.
martino_cappachino
For the defense.. Deon Grant should be back at FS. Brian Russell looked pretty slow too, I expect Boulware to start over him soon. The Defense is tough but very small, they need Marcus Tubbs. They can't seem to find enough receivers though smile.gif.
martino_cappachino
Courtney Taylor and UFDA CJ Wallace made the team. Jordan Kent, Pete Hunter and David Greene were cut. Boulware was traded for Jason Babin. Conditional draft pick traded for RB Alvin Pearman.

YES! CJ! CJ! CJ!

As you can tell, I love this guy.
martino_cappachino
Hahah I guess his 4.8 forty time didn't matter in the end.
PatriotofMaine
Sort of like Aaron Fransisco. We at CDS said the guy could make it despite running a 4.8 and not doing all that well at the Combine, and he starts for Arizona now, doesn't he?
ramsdraft1029
I like seeing UFA's make the team.

Quinton Culberson made the Rams and will be the third string MLB but should be playing on the outside.
gpngc
C.J. Wallace update: a special teams stud... also saw him getting into it with one of the niners on Sunday- LOVE to see that kind of intensity... he didn't back down at all..

As for the rest of my team: WE ARE AMAZING THIS YEAR... LOL I love October...

Anyway- I'm going to the Seahawks-Steelers matchup this week and can't wait to see the Hawks get REVENGE after Super Bowl XL...

Wow, this game was so close in the early goings until the Steelers slowly started taking over. I never would've thought they'd shutout the Seahawks though. Held them to 149 yards even without Casey Hampton and Troy Polamalu.

I know how it is to go watch your team get shutout though. I went to the Steelers-Ravens game last year in Baltimore, only to see them get blown out 27-0. It was long ride home to say the least.
gpngc
It was rough to say the least. Hasselbeck had arguably the worst game of his career. We were outcoached in every way and our offense was putrid. It was a very long plane ride home last night...
DaveJ
Hats off to Mack Strong, one of the best fullbacks this game has ever seen. I think the fullback position is a little underappreciated and Mack was one of the best at his craft. I think it's great that he spent his entire 15 year career with one team, too. I'm not a Seahawks fan obviously but it was great to see the ovation the crowd gave Mack when he raised the 12th man flag.
gpngc
Love Mack... great to see him raise the flag...

Too bad we suck....
martino_cappachino
Agreed. What is going on with this team..?!
Sprinkler
It was nice to beat up on ALex Smith and the niners.

The first IMD is coming up. I was wondering what team needs are ppl looking at? Is Shaun Alexander an effective back in League any more? Would a guy like J Stewart help take some pressure of him a la Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor? How much longer does big Walt have? DOes anyone have faith in Rob Sims?

Also post some players who you think would fit on this squad?

-Don't worry about LT, Sean Locklear will take over at LT once Walt is done...

-Needs IMO: HB, OG, TE, CB (if Trufant leaves)...

Big win at home against Chicago. The new "air-it-out" mentality is what's going to propel us to the NFC Championship game this season. I think we can easily handle the Packers, even in Green Bay, but I am VERY worried about Romo and the Cowboys...

6-4

Remaining schedule

@STL- This one will be tough, wouldn't be surprised at all if we got picked off here...
@PHI- Without McNabb, I think we'll handle them quite easily.
ARZ- Retribution game. This one is ours.
@CAR- If we are serious about being a contender this year, we should win this one easily.
BAL- At home against a bad offense, I like our chances.
@ATL- Weird game, because we may have the division wrapped up and might be playing for the three seed...

I see at most, two losses there.

12-4 is not out of the question.
11-5 is probably most likely.
10-6 is also very likely.

cjs206
Yeah I think you got it right in saying yesterday's win was a big one for the 'Hawks, but I'm not as convinced as you are about your "easy" run in.

@STL- have won 2 on the trot and have found a bit of form now all their key guys are back
@PHI- remember last season when McNabb went down? A certain Jeff Garcia cane in and let this team to the playoffs, so the Eagles aren't all McNabb, it will probably depend more on Westbrook
ARZ- I'm not counting Arizona out yet, I'm afraid, they've got some spirit in there. Don't bank on this win.
@CAR- this game will depend on whether the good panthers or the bad panthers turn up
BAL- again, depends which ravens team turns up, though you may not need many points to beat them right now
@ATL- Jim Mora and Patrick Kearney's homecoming...you know the Falcons will be up for that one.

You could easily go 5-1 or 1-5 on this schedule...that's how topsy-turvy these teams are. That said, I do see the Hawks winning the division, but I'm not convinced that they're playoff material just yet.

gpngc
It is the NFL, we can go 1-5. But I really doubt it.

@STL- I agree. We could lose this one.
@PHI- Jeff Garcia's not there anymore. We will handle A.J. Feely. Brandon Mebane has helped our run defense so I'm not worried about a one-dimensional BW attack.
ARZ- If you saw the first game between these two teams, you'll know why I fully am banking on this win.
@CAR- I guess you have a point. I would like this one a lot more at home. I just can't see them moving the ball on us.
BAL- There is one Ravens team. An above average, but not indestructible defense, and a putrid offense. We kill them at home.
@ATL- I don't think the Falcons care about Kerney or Mora coming back honestly... And they better be up for this one, because they'll be playing for a LOWER draft pick, while we'll be playing for playoff position or nothing at all (in which case they'll win). Oh yea, we are the better team from 1-53 and in terms of coaching staff. No reason to think we'll lose this one...
Sprinkler
I think we'll go 4-2 and finish as a 10 win team which is decent.
gpngc
A win this week puts us at 9-4 with the division basically clinched, along with a 3 or 4 seed.

Because we're at home, I could see us winning, but we've been getting lucky the past few weeks and I don't think we are as good as 9-4 would indicate...

Should be an interesting game.

If this one was in Arizona, I'd be with you 100%. But we're a lot tougher at home...
QuietStorm
Not really. Seattle is just luck the Cardinals might be depleted. Fitzgerald and Boldin could be out, and no Adrian Wilson. Once again the Seahawks get lucky.
gpngc
Just did some research and it looks like we'll be a contender again next season. The only important names up for free agency are Sean Lockler, Marcus Trufant, and D.J. Hackett. My guess is that we'll be able to retain at least two of the three.
QuietStorm
Let Hackett go, he's not necessary. They need to keep Trufant.

I want to keep Trufant, but I don't know if we'll be able to afford him. He's having a career year and will likely demand a contract comparable to the one Nate Clements got this past offseason. Plus, I think we've drafted enough CB's in the past few years to make up for such a loss. Babineaux can start at LCB and Josh Wilson can slide to the nickel, and Jennings has established himself at RCB.

I don't want to lose D.J. Hackett because all of our WR's are smurfs, but it seems we could sign or draft any WR and plug them in and they'd be successful.

The guy we cannot afford to lose is Sean Locklear, who has been one of the more underrated players in the league the last few years. Locklear will be counted on to move to LT when Walter Jones hangs up the cleats.
gpngc
DT Craig Terrill is also a free agent, and will likely garner interest from many teams. He's a solid player who can provide quality depth at the UT position.
Sprinkler
I do think that those three must be retained for the Hawks to be successful.

I think Trufant being a local product and a large part of the turnaround for us since joining the NFC will allow both sides to come to an agreement. He should be locked up early before we see what Asante Samuel demands.

Hackett is the only true possesion receiver we have. I guess Engram sorta is, but hes like 5 foot 8. It also reiterates the fact that a guy like Beckum, Fred Davis, or Martellus Bennett is needed.

Locklear of course is one of the better RTs in the game.

I also like Terrill, but he will be less necessary if Tubbs is ever healthy. Big if. But I do like Mebane. But if he can return for an honest backup salary, we'll keep him.

gpngc
Sprinkler,

Do you think we can go into GB and beat the Pack? I do...

Seattle has the best homefield in the NFL. The numbers don't lie. Check out opponents false starts penalties over the last few years...
