Cowboys fans must be excited. The 2008 #1 they got so the Browns could draft Brady Quinn is looking like a for sure top 5 and very possibly the #1 pick in 2008! The Browns looked absolutely horrible and the AFC North is no picnic.

I've been a Cowboys fan since I got out of the Navy in 1962, and began watching the NFL with my father. TV had been in Alpine, Texas for only a handful of years then.
Granted, the Browns have been weak for a long time. But by now, Oct 30, all can see that the Browns are gelling, starting to mature as a team, and improving. QB Anderson is a key, but picking near the top of the draft for several years, the Browns have accumulated a very respectable pool of young talent. Unless Anderson gets hurt, I don't think we'll be seeing their rookie QB.
Because of that talent accumulation, I was afraid something like this improvement in Cleveland was going to happen this fall. The current Condraft mock projects the Cowboys drafting at picks 1/17 and 1/31. The Cowboys certainly could stumble, but these seem not a bad guess. Combine those two picks, and Jerry Jones could trade up to pick 1/7, not quite enough to get Ark RB Darren McFadden (projected at pick 1/5, going to the Jets.)
If Condraft projections are accurate, getting D-Mac will be VERY expensive. I'm accustomed to thinking that both our picks in round one are reserved for trading up to get him. But Cleveland's pick will doubtless be in the lower half of the round. Referring to the draft value chart, Jones would have to offer more, for instance, both first round picks plus our second round pick 2/63, to get the Jets' picks 1/5, plus maybe 4/101.
D-Mac is special, but is he worth our top three picks? I say we're better off keeping all our picks and taking best player available, with a slight preference for any of the following positions:
WR
CB
RB
I would earlier have included NT as a top need position in Dallas, but maybe Tank will fill our need there.
