Ok, so I was watching this game, then got kinda sidetracked by the other game going on here in Los Angeles, so forgive me if this writeup is a little vague.

After a big bounce back win last week at Oregon State, UCLA looked very vulnerable again against the winless Irish. They had to deal with the injury to starting QB Ben Olson's other knee and a shoulder injury that kept starting RB Khalil Bell in and out of the game. The Bruins were up 6-3 at the half, but you got the feeling that if Notre Dame could get anything going, they were going to win the game. Jimmy Clausen won his first game in his homecoming game and looked a lot better than I have ever seen him at the college level.

Notre Dame PP's:

Ambrose Wooden, CB, Notre Dame- Finished with 6 total tackles, including a HUGE hit on Khalil Bell on the sideline that sent him backwards. Wasn't challenged at all in the game, due to UCLA's lack of playmakers and Bethel-Thompson's inabilty to throw the ball farther than 10 yards: B+(only because the lack of ball he faced)

Tom Zbikowski, S, Notre Dame- Tom finished with 5 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 FF, 1 sack, and one huge hit that put Ben Olson out of the game. Just another day at the office for Zbikowksi: A

John Carlson, TE, Notre Dame- Had 6 receptions for 38 yards. No huge catches but was a consistent target for Clausen to throw at, a safety blanket for him: B

Jonathan Sullivan, C, Notre Dame- The one thing UCLA was able to do was get pressure on Clausen(suprise suprise). Sullivan gave up the inside on occasion and really didn't do a good job run blocking: D

UCLA PP's:

Bruce Davis, DE, UCLA- The one player wearing UCLA blue who came to play. 3 TFL and 3 sacks, showed a nice array of pass rushing moves and was also very strong against the run: A

Chris Horton, S, UCLA- 8 tackles, but nothing special. Did do a nice job clogging the hole on a 4th and 1 rush attempt: C

Dennis Keyes, S, UCLA- Keyes looked horrible today. Juggled one sure interception on the sideline that was called incomplete after he failed to get his feet in, and then dropped another one thrown seemingly right to him. Was decently strong against the run with 1 TFL, but his coverage and hands have never looked worse: D

Shannon Tevaga, G, UCLA- injured

UCLA takes a week off to lick their wounds before welcoming the #2 team in the land(yes that's right) California to the Rose Bowl. Notre Dame can take it's feel good first win back home to welcome in #5 Boston College to South Bend.

Sam, I am really beginning to believe that Bruce Davis may be one of the first OLB's drafted. I think he has the ability to make that transition. What do you think?
Broncosfan713
He will definitely be drafted as a OLB, just too small to be a DE. Right now as a OLB, I see him in the 2nd to 3rd we'll see if he can make that jump up into the first round.

I do not care of Zbi at all. I think he is going to be an absolute bum at the next level. Bruce Davis is extremely intriguing as well.

Zbikowski is definitely vulnerable in coverage, but I love his toughness and his hitting ability, only time will tell Adam...

Zbikowski is definitely a player I see falling on draft day, perhaps close to the Brandon Browner level, he is tough and a good return man but 10-15 safeties are better against the pass than he is in this draft, IMHO. I think DAvis was the best prospect on either team for the 2008 draft.

well there's no question about that haha, but I don't think Zbikowski will fall to the same level as Browner. Browner fell for being too raw, something that Zbis definitely is now. I am also one of the ones who believe Browner would've made fine player if injuries hadn't killed him in the NFL.
