I am acting as the surrogate Mountain West writer for the moment, so a lot of the guys in this conference are new to me. So bare with me...I found three guys who I think will be drafted, and have squared away the database for these two teams. The game was a slugfest on the ground for the most part, with SDSU's defense being the story of the game, holding highly-regarded HB Rodney Ferguson of the Lobos under 100 yards rushing. QB Kevin O'Connell of SDSU is a stud, who kept his team in the game with his running and solid decision making. However, a late fumble on a first-down run by O'Connell--that would have probably setup the kneeling process to run out the clock, cost the Aztecs the win.

SCOUTING SUMMARY:

College: New Mexico Conference: Mountain West Columnist: staff

Cody Kase 47 6' 2.0" 212 0.00 LB 2008: Not sure why he is even in the database. Didn't do much, and has no NFL position. GRADE: Negative

Travis Brown 81 6' 2.0" 202 4.55 WR 2008: Steady possession type who had 6 or 7 catches. Looks like he has pretty good wheels. He is a smart guy who knows how to get open, but I don't see the explosion to make him more than a bubble guy for draft/UDFA status. GRADE: Neutral

DeAndre Wright 2 5' 10.5" 193 4.50 CB 2010: The kid has a world of talent, and I am sure we will be talking about him in the future.

Glover Quin 19 6' 0.0" 203 4.49 CB 2009: He seems to be in press coverage most of the time. Sometimes gives up too much ground. Bit of a "clip" tackler rather than a true wrapup guy. Very fluid though, and definitely flashes big-league ability. Comes up quick in the run support game. Looks fluid in his backpedal. Nice footwork, and obviously he has NFL size and speed. If he declares, I can easily see him going as high as the 2nd round. GRADE: Positive

Rodney Fergusen 21 5' 11.4" 229 4.54 HB 2009: Reminds me of Dwaye Wright. Same build and running style. Kind of a limited back in the sense that he has only the power game really going for him. Not going to shake and bake away from people. But, he has the size and power to carry the load, if you want a guy that just goes straight ahead and moves the chains. Did not have a great statistical night tonight, but you can see the talent is there. Displays good hands. MUST GO BACK TO SCHOOL. If he comes out now, he will probably get lost. GRADE: Neutral

Vince Natali 66 6' 1.8" 309 5.17 C 2008: The unquestioned leader of a very seasoned UNM line (four seniors) who play well together, but are not really all that talented as a group. Natali is the best of the bunch. Very smart. Nice base and pad level. Uses his hands like a surgeon. Nice shotgun. Great college center who may be too short for the next level, but he is such a crafty tactician I think he may surprise people. Does get walked back some in pass pro, and tends to overextend a little. Limited warrior. GRADE: Neutral

Tyler Donaldson 55 6' 3.5" 228 4.70 DE 2008: A very light college DE who makes plays at this level, but...where are you going to put him? He doesn't seem to have that much hip flexibility to be converted, and rarely dropped into coverage. Has a real nice variety of moves, and is pretty relentless. A great college football player who needs to bulk up by at least 30 pounds to have any prayer of an NFL career, unless someone smarter than me figures out where to play him. GRADE: Slightly positive

Marcus Smith 4 6' 1.2" 214 4.48 WR 2008: Has the best shot of the UNM WR's of a pro career. Very productive. Makes the acrobatic grab. Great YAC because he is a former tailback. Returns kicks. Tons of versatility. GRADE: Positive

College: San Diego State Conference: Mountain West Columnist: staff

Lance Louis 89 6' 3.0" 265 0.00 TE 2008 : DNP...injured

Brandyn Dombrowski 62 6' 5.3" 330 5.35 OG 2008: Best O-line prospect for either team. Massive and moves it pretty well. His head is really on a swivel in pass pro and he will make two hits on a play. Buries people in the run game if he locks on. I think this guy is a 5-6th rounder at worst. He does lumber a bit, and can miss when pulling. But he is SO tough...he's bound to play OG (and that's all he will ever play) for somebody, somewhere. GRADE: Positive

Kevin OConnell 7 6' 5.0" 235 4.75 QB 2008: I am enthralled by this guy, but I have to admit it is my first time scouting him. Check his new writeup for my comments. GRADE: Very Positive

Corey Boudreaux 40 6' 0.5" 220 4.58 S 2008: Corey played prep ball, and only got in on a few snaps last year. HE IS A GREAT CDS FIND! The kid hits like a ton of bricks and gets into the right place in pass D. Great size. Good enough speed. Big play type. REMEMBER THIS NAME. GRADE: Positive

Other notes:

SDSU: #35 LB Luke Laologi was everywhere for SDSU and reminds me of Lofa Tatupu. Freshman WR #80 Vincent Brown is a future star too, as is SS #20, Bass. #94 is a workmanlike college RDE, but has no pro future.

UNM: #75 Anthony Kilby is a wide-body LOG who is OK, but I don't see him in a camp. The other 2 senior O-linemen (#70 Clark, and #77 Miller) flash stuff, but not enough for me to write them up.

Who does DeAndre Wright remind you of?
Vince Natali is he really 5.17, he didn't look that quick to me?!
I have like Travis Brown since last year, I still believe with a strong pro day or combine he could go mid to late day 2 and stick as a possession WR.
Tyler Donaldson- I would guess that he’d begin on special teams and we’ll see if he can become a 3-4 OLB?
Rodney Fergusen I like him but, can he learn to catch the ball well enough to be a faster Verron Hayes type 3rd down back and how’s his blitz pick up?
Glover Quin as high as the 2nd? Josh Wilson went in the 2nd is he that smooth?
Marcus Smith- Would he stay a WR or become a 3rd down back at the next level?
Brandyn Dombrowski reminds me a little of a meaner Heyer
I concur on Kevin OConnell though I think he's closer to 4.85 than 4.75, though he moves well for a big guy. He could be a quality #2 in the right system and could grow into a starter with time.
Corey Boudreaux sounds like a beast how did I miss him? I hope we can get an interview with him next year perhaps?
Any idea as to triangle#s on LB Luke Laologi and WR Vincent Brown?

DeAndre reminds me a little of Marlin Jackson.
Natali may be a little slower than that...5.25-5.35 is what I am seeing.
I don't know about Donaldson make that transition...I have my doubts.
Fergusen was not involved in much blitz pickup in this one. They a very quick-footed QB who gets away on his own, and doesn't throw all that much. Not sure...Fergusen's hands look OK to me.
No, Quin is not as smooth as Wilson, but he's bigger and a better hitter. Maybe 2nd is a bit optimistic...
Dombrowski reminds me more of your typical mauler type pure OGs...like a poor man's John Hannah.
Boudreaux is indeed beasty looking. We all missed him. He only played like 6 plays prior to this year.
Laologi: 6'1", 230
Brown: 6'0", 175

I remember the good ole days when I had the MWC...anyways I like Cody Kase in the little I've watched of him, a lot of heart, but he does have limited upside.

Is Cody Kase a special teams maven at the next level perhaps?

Maybe...but I wouldn't draft him...
