Overview of Midway point of 07 season

As of week 7 Niners so far have been a dissapointment. Alex Smith is raising some doubts if he should have been the 1st pick of the draft. He is just not getting it done out there starting only 4 games with 387 yards and 1 td 1 int. This was supposed to be the breakout year for this guy and so far nothing. Frank Gore is the only player on the Offense side semi-living to 07 expectation. He is only 24 and will only get better. Darrel Jackson has been a huge disappointment so far with only 18 catches with 216 with 1 td. Even giving up a 4th rounder might have sounded a lil to much for him right now. Vernon Davis has only 106 yards with 0 td another huge dissapointment. The offense is last in yards last in passing yards 31st in points and 27th in rushing as of week 7 of the 07 season. The defense has been ok but point is no team is going to win alot of games with those offense numbers. Losing Manny Lawson is certainly not helping eithier. Patrick Willis is playing like the Defensive Player of the year Leading is Team in tackles with 63. Niners are now 2-5 another down year for the Niners is carving its way to the Record books.

Yea it looks like Niners should have not traded for the Patriots pick. They could have gotten a better player then Staley. Not saying Staley was a bad choice just saying he hasent contributed anything and looks like they could have a elite top 10 prospect.

Not only that but what if SF had traded down to say 21, still got local boy Aaron Rodgers, and got another couple of picks? A big play WR would help Smith, and he needs to be kept from 3rd and 6 or more. wink.gif

Niners lose to Falcons week 9 at Falcons home. Niners now (2-6) lose their 6 straight after having a great start. To be fair Niners were without Star Gore. They went away from the run rushing only 24 times compared to 36 passes. Niners give the falcons a rare win who are now 2-6 also. The Niners gave up 4 turnovers compared to only 1 for the Falcons. That is what really won the game for the Falcons. The final score was only 20-16. Niners and Falcons were both held under 300 yard nets. 251 for the Niners compared to 286 for Falcons. Defense cracked down pass but let the run slip past them. dunn and norwood combine for more yards then joey harrington. Joe Nedny had a great game 3/3 long 49 1/1xp

Mike Nolan, the 49er's HC had a 2 p.m. press conference scheduled for today canceled. It's being rumored that V.P. of player personnel Scot McCloughan is going to be named GM, and that he's bringing in a new HC. Stay tuned.
nyyjones
Nolan's status apparently will be determined on Wednesday. According to sources, the Yorks are worried someone such as Atlanta will come in and hire Singletary as their HC, who has been instrumental in the development of Patrick Willis. The rumor is, the Yorks want to either fire Nolan, and hire Singletary, or at least get Singletary signed as the "future HC." Another rumor has surfaced that brings Mike Martz in to be Singletary's OC, should he become HC. IMO, this would not be a good move. Martz as a QB coach for Smith, maybe, but not as OC.

Mike Martz has been hired as OC by the 49ers.

I dont think so... But my job is to provide you news and i got some for all 3 Niner fans in this website

Niners have resigned Shaun Hill, Yes ladies and gentleman THE SHAUN HILL. To a 3 year 6 million dollar contract a signing bonus of 2 mil and playing incentives that could total 11.5 Mil. Starting the season he was the 3rd stringer but after Smith and Dilfer went down, He played vs the Vikings to complete 22 of 27 passes and a QB rating of 81.

The Shaun Hill Alex Smith battle for the #1 QB spot is about to begin. Coach Mike Nolan indicated after the season that the starting job would be determined by a competition in training camp. Because he has been given a win-or-else ultimatum by the owners, he can't afford to play favorites if he has any.

This is make or break time for Smith. If he gets beaten out by the UDFA Hill he may be in a new uniform by the time the 09 season comes around.

Both will be given time to gt adjusted under new offensive coordianter Mike Martz, Mike Martz said he's going to base a lot on accuracy as a key component in determining the starter. Hill's completion rate was 68.4 percent; Smith has not completed more than 58.1 percent in a year. Hill's passer rating of 101.3 - albeit in only three games - was far better than Smith's 57.5 and Dilfer's 55.1. Smith's season was short-circuited by shoulder and forearm injuries.

I don't know...Staley worked out pretty well. I think the loss of Norv Turner as OC hurt them more than anything...especially Smith who was doing really well under him. IMO, the TE they took the year before, Vernon Davis better step up, or it's time to ship him out...he looks like a bust with a capital B. IMO, that pick not performing to expectation is really the pick hurting this team.
NinerFan85
Staley was a good pick and it was a need. Looks like he's going to be a fixture on the OL for years to come.

The loss of Turner was huge and was overlooked by a lot fans during the summer imo. Jim Hostler was clearly not ready for the job.

I never really bought into why this team was thought to make a run at the playoffs. I was thinking 7-9 or 8-8 but that obviously didn't happen, so I originally thought that NE would get a top 15 pick. Whats strange is that I thought Dallas would get a high pick from the Brady Quinn trade, that didn't happen either.

Safe to say Staley was the best O-line men this season, so i would say that it is a good pick up. releasing smith was a good move, when it comes to a point where Willis is taking tackles away from him you have to release. They also need to release Nolan, he looks lost during games.

Smith's release was inevitable, especially considering salary...and a real good move by the Bolts to snag him as a real quality backup ILB.

Until his eye injury, you couldn't say that. Still, it's also possible he won't make the Charger's final cut, although I think that's unlikely. He'll be a good influence and mentor for the other ILBs on the Chargers, who are all young. This is a guy who's never taken a play off.
nyyjones
I've never been a big Mike Martz fan. That being said, he is a good mentor for QBs, and that could spell good news for 49er's fans...and for QB Alex Smith. At the 49er's mini camp Martz commented the more he works with Smith, the more excited he is. He said that Smith could be the best QB he's worked with at the pro level.

I've heard talk about the Niners moving to Santa Clara a few miles south on the site of the amusement park Great America. The stadium would be built in their current parking lot.
I took my family to Great America today. The parking lot has enough space and it has good infrastructure. Meaning, hotels and freeway access most importantly. They would have to build a parking garage to handle parking or from what I saw, incorporate some of the fringe land not in use. It didn't seem to have much fringe land, but a small amount. Trams or shuttle buses could also bring in fans. Obviously it would be a nice family destination for out of towners.
The parent company of Great America is Cedar Fair Inc. based in Ohio. They own several amusement parks all over the US and Canada. They seem to want to get the Niners to Santa Clara. I've heard the Yorks don't really want to move out of SF, but it's tough to get a suitable stadium site in SF. I talked to a CA Senator I know about this and he didn't really have too much insight, but he thinks it could get done. I think it would be great if they could line up a BART track to the stadium. (BART is the Bay Area subway system and mass transit)

Thoughts or opinions???

Ezra Butler gets caught high driving a 2008 Hummer. Then gets waived. What a waste of ability.
Also, how long until he gets that Hummer repossessed? New car without a job?!

He won't be driving it much before it gets repossessed...he won't be able to afford the gas for that thing for long.
