Team needs for The 49ers.
(By Order)
1. WR- The Niners best reciever as of now is Arnez battle... thats not good. Darrell Jackson has been a total bust and is on pace to have the lowest productive season of his career (432 yds 2 TDs). Arnez Battle is being Arnez Battle just barely pulling his own weight and yet at the same time being the most productive Receiver YIKES! Vernon Davis is taking much longer then expected to adjust to the NFL and what was supposed to be the Break out year for him its just another down year pulling in 176 yards with 1 TD thru the 8th week. The WR position is also inflcting pain on the other offensive positions. The 49er QB have more INT then TD (Dilfer,Smith) and seeing that the Niners can not pass teams are cracking down on Gore and the running game. That being said the Niners blew a chance on top prospect WR DeShaun Jackson by trading 1st round pick to the Pats. but they can redeam themself with Drafting some like Bowman that would compliment 2nd round 2007 pick Jason Hill and Jackson who lack Red zone presence. That was supposed to be Davis job but hasent stepped up. Ideal 1st pick Adarius Bowman OR top WR
2. DE- The Niners other Top problem is lack of DE talent. Bryant Young is 35 years old and entering his 14th season. Defense has fallen appart with the injury to Manny Lawson. Niners run a 3-4 defense so a player that would be there is Shawn Crable or Bruce Davis.
3. FS- Niners have improved their CB but their Safetys are just awlful. Mark Roman should just not be starting PERIOD. He is a liability more then he is an improver. Does not look like here will get any better. Tom Zbikowski from Notre Dame with 4.48 speed and a knack for making bog plays. Is also a Return specialist for Notre Dame.
4. NT- Franklin right now is nothing but a position filler. Doing what he was expected to do. still has some potential but not much.
5. RB- Gore has had a history with injuries and If anything is to happen to Gore the Niners dont have alot to offer Hicks has talent but not enough to carry the team if anything was to happen to Gore.
6. OG- Larry Allen has some still left in the Gas tank but not alot. The niners need OG depth if Allen plans to retire anytime soon.

Jerry,
I agree with most of what wrote. I think the only thing I disagree with is the Zibkowski thought. He can't cover, he's more of an in the box type safety. A sleeper I like is Tyrell Johnson. He's from AK St. plays the SS position there. He can cover and should be taken round 4 or so. Give or take a round. He's got the skills to light up the combine too! Remember, you heard it here at CDS first! LOL
Good job by the way!

yea i saw Zibkowski and he looked pretty impressive to me running a pretty good 40 time and being a returner. The reason why i did not want to put Johnson is because he is an SS. The Niners primary S spot needed is FS but yea its hard to tell in the middle of the season. Thanks for commenting in tho Bwalker

I don't think it was VD as much as it was the offense and Alex Smith. He's not getting Vernon the ball and they aren't focusing VD like they should. They need to pop in film of the Chargers and Chiefs the past few years. Even the Colts this year. VD is such a threat. Granted he hasn't been able to stay healthy, but he's a beast when he's on the field.
I agree, they really need a WR. I liked DJ for a 4th, but they should have known he wasn't dependable, he never was. Arnaz is good but since DJ isn't, it's difficult to get the ball around. I love their defense even though they have been a bit suspect recently, but that's what happens when the offense isn't that good. 49ers might want to think about another lineman to bolster the line as insurance for injuries, and who knows how much longer Allen has.

The 49ers need a WR in the first or second, I like DJ HAll. They Also need a DE and a pass-rushing OLB in addition ot OT and OG. They need too much help for just one draft. In order, WR, DE, OT, OLB, OG, QB, ILB, RB, FS, CB.

The problem for the 49ers defense is that they likely need to upgrade all the spots along the line. Franklin was injured for a short time and probably isn't starting quality, Young is retiring, and I believe Douglas is a free agent. They also need a pass rusher from one of the OLB spots as Banta-Cain was a flop. I'd say those are their top 2 needs.

Welcome to the site NinerFan85... Great to have your input.
I agree. I think they need a pass-rushing OLB like Derrick Harvey or Quentin Groves in round one...

The 49ers are widely rumored to be the top suitor for Bears LB Lance Briggs in FA. Briggs is from Sacramento, and is very interested in playing near home. The 49ers also tried very hard to make a trade for him last year during his holdout.

Time to start this up again for 2009!
RT: Jennings hasn't played much since becoming a 49er and his 09 cap number is likely too high for the 49ers to keep. Barry Sims struggled when he had to take Jennings place.
FS: Its time for Roman to go. He just cannot make any plays out there and he gave up the most big plays on the team.
NT: Franklin played well in spurts but if an upgrade is out there, I think they need to go after it. This would make the ILB duo of Willis/Spikes even better.
OLB: Parys Haralson seems to have locked up a starting spot after his productive season(8.5 sacks) and now they need to look for someone else on the other side. Manny Lawson is a great special teams player but he hasn't been the OLB they thought he would become. Tully Banta-Cain didn't play much in 08, so he's likely out the door.
Future QB: It doesn't appear that Alex Smith is the answer, so moving on...Shaun Hill is the favorite to take the job in 2009 but they could use a future QB in the first 3 rounds of the draft.
OL depth could be useful as well. I think WR could no longer be a need, the team seems to really like Josh Morgan and Jason Hill for the future.
