Nevada won a squeaker 40-38 as they pretty much ended any bowl hopes for the Aggies. This game also featured many coaching innovators. Hal Mumme brings the Air Raid Offense and Chris Ault developed the Pistol Offense. NMSU is also led on the defense by Woody Widenhofer who is one of the founders of the 3-4 defense.

Chase Holbrook 12 6'4.0" 240 QB 2009
Started off the game very tentative as he had a concussion last week. He didn't look comfortable for the first few series. He soon got into his comfort zone as he finished the day with 4 TDs on 35-49 for 407 yards. Showed nice touch on a floater down the middle. Didn't throw deep very much, but does show good touch on his deep throws. Tends to get lazy on short throws as he lost focus and one hopped a gimme first down late in the game. Has some mobility to escape the rush, but not a scrambler. He'll always have questions as to whether it's the system or him that produces the gawdy numbers that are produced in the Air Raid Offense. Grade: Positive

Chris Williams 28 5' 8.0" 157 4.35 WR 2009
DNP Out for the season with a broken collarbone.

Ezra Butler 56 6'2.0" 248 4.60(E) LB 2008
I've seen him play 3 or 4 times this year and have been unimpressed. However, Ezra came to play tonight. He had about 12 tackles by my account and did a good job in pass coverage. He's looking more active and is the leader of this defense. Grade: Positive

Matt Hines 57 6'1.0" 285 NT 5.15(E) 2008
A NT who shows ability to plug holes and is fairly active. Made a few plays, but wasn't much of a factor. Grade: Slightly Negative

Game Notes: Chris Ault has to be elated in the QB he found in redshirt FR Colin Kaepernick. He's 6'6" 215 and has a cannon. He's also a decent athlete. He's very raw, but shows enormous potential and should keep the Wolfpack in the mix for the WAC crown for the next few years.... Luke Lipincott RB NV continues on a tear through the WAC as he had his 4th straight 100+ game. He's a JR and will be put in the system for the 2009 draft. Lippincott is 6'2" 215 and finished the night with 143 yards on 30 carries....NMSU WR AJ Williams finished the night with 11 catches for 130 yards and 2 TDs. He's 6'0" 208 lbs. and is a JR.....SO CB for NMSU Chris Woods showed enough to keep an eye on in the future. He's got speed and is rumored to run a 4.4 forty. He's got time to grow into his enormous potential. He's 5'10" 180 at this time.

Adam Bishop, TE, Nevada? How'd he look? Is he a next-level guy? On the other side, Nick Cleaver (FB) and Maurice Murray (DT) are a couple guys I'd be interested in hearing about as well (if you took note of any of them).

I don't think I took any notes on any of those guys. They didn't do anything to stand out or get my attention. Murray, the DT looks to have the size, but I don't see the ability to go to the next level. Maybe camp bodies?? I'll keep a closer eye as I'll see them both play again.

NV has a guard that was getting some hype. Charles Manu, I watched him and I didn't like his game. Didn't really seem very athletic, strong, or quick. He was also on the ground a lot which doesn't do your team much good.

Jeff,

You'd asked me about Adam Bishop TE NV. I watched the SJSU game and focused on him. He's an all blockee, no catchee type guy. I'll go back and see some more games on him. He's a very good blocker. They use him almost like a pulling guard. Line him up offset and he basically pulls. They don't really throw him the ball or feature him as a TE. I'll go back and see if I can get a read on his hands.
