No blue chip studs in this game, but there are plenty of guys who will be on a summer roster next year. This game was much more of a grind it out affair than the final score would indicate. The Zips Jr. RB/KR Bryan Williams may be the best pro prospect on either team, and he dueled with the Bobcat's fine Sr. RB Kalvin McRae for offensive honors. The difference in this one though was Akron's senior wideout (a guy who MUST get into the database, Adam) 6'4" Jabari Arthur who had one of the better games by a WR that I have seen all year.

SCOUTING SUMMARY:

College: Ohio Conference: Mid-American Columnist: Adam Davis

Game Notes

Landon Cohen 55 6' 3.0" 274 5.00 DT 2008: Really not big enough to get the attention he deserves from the pros, but he is a very solid college DT. Keeps coming. Diagnoses quickly. Emotional. Stunts well. Gets to the ballcarrier quickly by spinning in the gap and throwin his body into the fray. High motor type. Slides off blocks very nicely. If he gains 15 pounds between now and April without losing anything we may hear more about this guy! GRADE: Positive

Kalvin McRae 5 5' 11.0" 208 4.55 HB 2008: Great college back without the speed and moves he would need to get more than a camp look from the NFL. Had a great first quarter, and then basically disappeared. Shows very good blitz pickup. OK hands. Good run vision. Limited short area burst. Limited plowing ability in short yardage. GRADE: Neutral

College: Akron Conference: Mid-American Columnist: Adam Davis

Game Notes

Nate Robinson 95 6' 4.5" 315 5.15 DT 2008: Likes to dance with the O-lineman across from him for a bit and then walk away. Lazy. Difficulty finding the ball. Gets turned. Will turn and twist to the tackle when it is near him. Doesn't use his size effectively. On the ground too much. Loses balance and gets pancaked. If he would just stay at home and tie up blockers he might be a better prospect. GRADE: Negative

Jalen Parmele 33 6' 0.0" 222 4.65 HB 2008: DNP. Don't know his story, do you, Adam?

Kris Kasparek 84 0' 0.0" 0 0.00 TE 2008: Flashes pass blocking ability. Nice soft hands. Finds the seam but does not look like he will stretch it much at the next level. GRADE: Neutral

Other notes:

Akron: OLB #43 Brion Stokes should also be in the database. Gets to the QB. ST warrior-type at the next level. Will soon break most of Jason Taylor's records. Drops well into coverage.
CB #5 Davanzo Tate looks good enough to be drawing interest too. Shows equally well in pass defense AND run support. Very Quick. Got beaten once, but it was a great adjustment by the TE. C #68 Mike Schepp. One of the best centers in the MAC. I like him. Works hard. Gets to the second level very quickly. Head hunter. Impressive short yardage run blocker at this level

MUST ADD: WR Jabari Arthur: He is about to break the Zips single-season catch record, and was drafted #7 by the CFL in their first round recently. (He's a Montreal native). The guy gets open, is big, and shows hands. What more do you want? Really adjusts to the ball nicely. Could be the best WR in the MAC.

Ohio: Their kicker was very impressive (#14 Braumstein) who hit from 34, 43 and 38. What class is he in, Adam? Jr. RB-KR (#24) Bryan Williams is a dual threat. Had a long KOR TD, and runs well--especially to the corners. ROG Matt Miller is a nice short area mauler with limited athleticism. Senior FS (#8) Todd Koenig is EVERYWHERE. This kid can play for me any time. Did it both ways...2 PDs and a pick that was called back...leading tackler. Game MVP in my book. Please add him!

I don't know whats up with Parmalee, he has played this year if I remember correctly. Arthur is the real deal, I'll add him.

Ill make the corrections for those guys..

Nate Robinson is a former Rutgers guy. He was promising there, but he left the team under some negative circumstances. (Coach Schiano mentioned it, but wouldn't go into any detail.)

I remember talking to him after his sophomore season at the RU pro day. He was joking it up to an agent about how he was definitely declaring for the pros after his junior season. My impression of him was that he was immature and had a lot of things handed to him because of his athletic prowess, and therefore could get quite lazy. Apparently he's still got some of those issues based on his play.

I have read similar, I am sorry, we have enough talent in teh league now that lack desire, but like anything teams will think they can change that. Not so sure it is that easy
