And the trend of #2 teams going down continues with an Arizona upset of Oregon, 24-31. With that, Oregon becomes the 5th #2 team to go down this year, along with Cal, USF, BC, and sadly, USC. That has to be a record. Any comments on why this year has had so many upsets in college football?

Coaches overpaid and are not producing? nah...

TO me watching a ocuple of them, they were just flat, outplayed and made too many mistakes. Some of those unranked teams, some of the players act like they are top round picks... Which makes for a much more exciting game.
PackersPwnage
And there have been 10 top 5 teams that have gone down this year, most in Division 1-A history.

I hate to say it but it is alot of hype. Cal, USF, BC should have never been #2 teams because lets face it, they are not amazing. I'm not saying they are not good but they should not be considered one of the best teams this year.

Its rankings which makes games so much fun!

They all had the qualifications of a #2 team at that time. Cal was a top 10 team to begin with, then they had an impressive win over Tennessee, then all the teams that were ahead of them except LSU lost. BC was undefeated, beating opponents such as VT, Wake Forest, GA Tech, and BGU. USF also deserved their ranking after upset wins at Auburn and against WV, after all the teams ahead of them went down. While it is true that those teams weren't good enough to be #2 teams, they deserved their rankings at the time.
PackersPwnage
And Kansas and LSU join the group.

You think Missouri will be the next to fall?
PackersPwnage
Yes. Oklahoma is just more athletic and more talented.
Asteinebach
I've kinda got that on my radar as well. Oklahoma is a great football team, no doubt about it. But I really do like that Mizzouri offense. It's definitely going to be make-or-break for Chase Daniel this week.

Bradford is nearly as good as Daniel, and he'll prove it on Saturday. I really like Daniel, but his supporting cast isn't as good as Bradford's.

His supporting cast is not as good I agree, which makes Daniels so much better...

If this were a track and field event you might be correct, but though Coffman and Rucker aren't as fast as Gresham, who I think is a future 1st rounder, and Joe Jon Finley, they are better in all other phases. At WR it's a wash OU's are bigger but Missouri has great speed at WR OU's wideouts are high 4.4 to mid 4.5s here Missouri has the speed advantage. Even without Murray OU has a slight advantage on the ground.
Bradford is a prototype and Daniel is Big Ben's "Mini-Me" [look at the face, build, way they move] but this is a game where he will find places to hurt OU, the seams and flats are likely to be attacked early and often. If OU gets an early lead and avoids having to throw the have a chance, but I think Chance proves his Heisman Bona Fides in this tilt. wink.gif
Now comes where the game will be decided: Defense.
If Darien Williams had taken over at FS and allowed Harris to play SS, Wolfe would then have been your Nickel and D.J could even spy the QB in some situations, and double against Maclin, Reggie Smith could do decent job on Franklin with a little help over the top Marcus Walker is very quick and should come in on long yardage situations since he can stay with Maclin deep and Lendy Holmes needs to have a GREAT day. The problem is most of your DBs are going to be playing FS or SS at the next level only Walker is a natural CB all the others are now are have been safeties and can be turned and burned.
How do we prevent that? Rush the passer, but you most maintain contain, flush Chase from the pocket and that sets up the scramble plays that WILL BEAT OU, even if he squirts up the middle for 4-8 yards that's okay, just don't give up the game changing play from outside the pocket.
On offense OU just needs to establish a good enough running game to make play-action work and not turn the ball over. 120-150 yards on the ground from 30 or so attempts should do it and they should use any "exotics" they have early teams tend to fall for them earlier in games. wink.gif

I like Malcolm Kelly. He's better than any receiver for Missouri. Allen Patrick is also a lot better than Tony Temple. And the key thing is the O-Line. I give the edge to Oklahoma's O-Line, which is led by the best OG in college, Duke Robinson.

Well, I just turned the Pitt/WVU game off. If WVU gets the win here, it's going to be strictly because the NCAA paid the officials off. They called a horrible holding call on the WR from Pittsburgh (#88) which was not holding. The line judge didn't even throw the flag, and he was staring right at the block. The back judge ended up calling it completely unsubstantiated. On the very next play, there was clearly defensive holding in the secondary (about 3:12 left in the game) and both the WR, the coach, and every player on the Pitt sideline was yelling at the same damn official. Whoever it was, somebody needs to launch an investigation into their referee's being paid off. IF WVU wins this game, it'll forever have an asterisk next to it, in my book.
