The UCLA defense looked spectacular saturday as the Ducks continued to struggle without QB Dennis Dixon. They lost their 2nd straight game after being #2 and now have their Rose Bowl dreams crushed. Both offenses looked anemic in this one, Oregon using 3 different signal callers after starter Brady Leaf went down. Oregon QB's completed 11 of 39 passes with 3 INT's while UCLA didn't fair much better going 4 of 17 with 2 INT's. Both defenses played really well, but the lack of offensive output made them look even better. Oregon punter Josh Syria punted a record 12 punts, not a great record to hold.
UCLA PP's:
Bruce Davis, DE/LB,UCLA- Was relatively quiet with only 2 tackles on the day. Did provide some nice pressure, but Oregon QB's stepped into the pocket away from him, limiting his influence on the game. Stout versus the run, especially impressive because it was Jonathan Stewart: B-
Chris Horton, S, UCLA- Horton started for the Bruins but was quickly done for the day by a concussion. Finished with 2 tackles: Incomplete
Dennis Keyes, S, UCLA- Keyes is back on a A list after this performance. He had 3 tackles and a huge interception in the 4th quarter. Suprisingly was pretty good in coverage, but had little to worry about with the Oregon QB's being so ineffective: B+
Chris Markey, RB, UCLA- 30 rushes for 99 yards. At least he was able to get some yards, but still had to work extremely to get those. Not extremely quick around the corner but did look a lot better than earlier in the year: C+
Shannon Tevaga, OG, UCLA- Another solid game for Tevaga. He did let in some penetration, but overall did a relatively good job. Shannon still needs to work on his footwoorkas it slips at times. Not his fault no one could throw the ball: B-
Oregon PP's:
Dennis Dixon, QB, Oregon-did not play torn ACL
Cameron Colvin, WR, Oregon- did not play
Jaison Williams, WR, Oregon- 4 receptions for 41 yards. The ball was just really off target all day. Any route over 10 yards was immediately thrown out due to the lack of execution from the QB's: C+
Others: Patrick Chung looked incredible, I think he may be the best safety in the conference. He is great against the run, and flawless in coverage. Kai Forbath set the UCLA freshman record for points scored.
Oregon returns home to face Oregon St. in the 111th Civil War. UCLA travels across town to take on the hottest team in the country, the USC Trojans.

UCLA is one of the most talented teams in college football. The only reason why they don't perform well is because of a terrible coach (Carl Dorrell) and injuries to their first 3 string QBs. They're athletic and talented. The awfulness of Dorrell has been displayed by UCLAs inconsistency, beating teams like Oregon and Cal but losing to Utah and NOTRE DAME, one of the worst teams in college football.

UCLA is a talented team, but by no means one of the talented in the country. They have absolutely no playmakers on offense, and an inconsistent defense. I think Karl Dorrell is a fantastic coach, his players just don't always get up for the games. I blame this season on injuries and inconsistency for the Bruins and NOT coaching.

How can you not blame the coach for his players "not getting up for games."
Anyways, where's Nick Reid. He's one of my favorite JR. prospects...

Karl Dorrell is a horrible coach. should be fired after this season. i dont think UCLA is the 1 OF THE MOST talented teams. but they are very good. Dorrell calls very idiotic plays. not going on 4th when thy need to and going on 4ths when they dont need to. Dorrell in my opinion is one of the worst college footballs coaches right now. perhaps ever in UCLA. He is that bad.

Coaching has a major reason why the Bruins are so inconsistent.

Dorrell is terrible. He should be fired. He's overly conservative. Like in the UCLA vs Arizona State game, Arizona State was up by a TD, UCLA marched down to the 31 yard line of Arizona State, then a 4th and 2 play comes up. What does Carl Dorrell do? He decides to punt it! I can name a dozen other instances in which he did something like this.

Well we shall see next year if UCLA is competitive in games against good teams as they were this year. Despite not having a good year they still managed to beat Cal, Oregon, Oregon St., and Washington. However, they did run into all these teams when they were at their worst. If Oregon St. played UCLA again right now I think the Beavers would come out victorious.

Dorrell is not a bad coach but he is in a HARD situation, imagine if you will you coach a good but not great NFL franchise about 20 minutes from the Patriots, ouch. Dorrell has made mistakes, but so has Bob Stoops, however Stoops has the depth and talent to cover those, Pete Carroll too has that, Paterno has gotten out coached a few times, even the best have. Dorrell's problem was he waited to long to revamp his staff, Norvell and Walker are future stars in coaching and UCLA should try to hire on as the next head [I'd go with Walker] and see if they can convince the other [Jay Norvell] to stay. Failing that go after a devastatingly effective recruiter with a fine offense mind and ties to UCLA- Rick Neuheisel, if he has not been hired by GA Tech.
