Derek Anderson has been arguably the biggest surprise of the 07 season. What do you guys think the Browns will do with him?
Asteinebach
I don't think they'll be able to bring him back. He's an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, and I'm guessing that the Bears or the Ravens are going to go after him. If he can do what he's done to a lot of AFC teams, I think he can be an instant success in the NFC.
QuietStorm
I agree. Earlier in the season I thought he might go to the Bears. The Ravens would be interesting though, Mason can still play and maybe DA will be able to help out Clayton. Plus DA stays with a great TE in Heap and a better run game.

It will be interesting. It's a Drew Brees-Phillip Rivers situation all over again. My guess is that they'll let him go this offseason but I really think it will be difficult for GM Phil Savage to separate Anderson from Braylon Edwards, as they've developed quite a rapport this season. I wouldn't rule out a trade of Brady Quinn, although with his large contract that seems unlikely.
Asteinebach
Yeah, it's well documented that the Browns will have more available cap space at the end of this season than any of the other NFL teams. I've heard around 40 million. Still, a year from now, trading Brady Quinn will seem like a terrible idea, as he might be as good a QB as we've seen in a long time, and they will definitely feel the financial blow of a 1st round QB being traded away. If that is the case with the Browns, and they do trade him, it means that they will have to once again be very conservative in the off season.

I believe Mr Anderson is actually a restricted free agent, and Phil Savage is looking like he's going to give him the highest tender.

That would mean the Browns would receive a 1st and 3rd for him, if another team signed him to an offer sheet. Otherwise, I think they'll keep both QBs next year, let them compete in training camp, and probably let Anderson get on with it. If he keeps winning, then they'll have to consider trading Quinn next year, but not right now. If they don't keep winning, Quinn will come in and get his chance to stake his claim to the starters role, and if he can then the Browns will look to trade Anderson.

2008 NFL Free Agents

Right you are, my bad.

The Browns will let Anderson go to the Bears, Vikings, Panthers ect. They will offer him the highest tender and get a 1st or 3rd for him. Quinn is the answer and he will get his chance. Anderson throws to many passes into the dirt and overthrows to much. He isn't that great of a descision maker as he threw into tripple coverage to Braylon and got picked off even when he had all the time in the world. Browns need defesnive help bad and they will get a 1st and draft a lineman.
BrownsFan731
We will not let him go to the Ravens, however. The coaches like Quinn, so Anderson may leave. It might be better to sign him though, just in case Brady gets indicted on dog fighting charges or something similar. biggrin.gif

The Browns should resign Derek Anderson and trade Quinn. Anderson has been great, and he's still only 26 years old. U don't know what u'll get out of Quinn, so I'd go with the QB u know is good. But if u resign Anderson to a big deal, you'll have to trade Quinn so as not to tie up too much money at one position.

Quinn's salary is average for a backup, and Anderson hasn't been great sure his numbers look good but he is very inconsistant, he throws balls right to linebackers when nobody is even around them, and he puts his receivers out to dry every pass, oh yeah he cant throw a pass under 15 yards! he either over or under throws the guy, I dont want him leading my team.

He's been faltering as of late, but from what I've watched, he's looked just fine. And it doesn't hurt that he has Braylon and Winslow either.

Anderson sucks

Nice comment. Hopefully, you found your way out of the forum already.

ur an @$$, I am not the biggest DA fan either but he helped our team win 10 games, so as long as he doesn't play like he did at the end of last year then I'll be ok with him as the starter, if he starts out like he ended the season then we see Quinn.
BraylonChamp#17
Should've traded him sad.gif

I agree. However, they might be able to sucker someone into overpaying for him. Maybe Detroit or SF???
yerckson3420
San Fran would be a good chance because Martz will be running the show soon and would take a shot at him.

I think the vikings would take that risk also. They have a very tough all around team and Anderson would be a huge pickup.
BraylonChamp#17
I still think the Browns can get about a 3rd rounder for him, and i think that the teams that you two mentioned would be good spots for D.A.
