Tech pulls it out!

Overall a great game. It was great to see both teams fight this one out. Tech did not give up! They were relentless.

In the end the fact that Virginia could not defend the pass if literally their life depended on it along with a couple of lost fumbles did them in. The fact that Tech could not stop the run proved less of an issue for them!

Tech had quite a few mental errors late but they did not give up. The defense came through on a huge fumble recovery when QB Sewell coughed it up in Tech territory.

Harrell set all kinds of Bowl records with the passing game. Whether Tech could or could not defend the pass, he did a great job of not getting ahead of himself and giving up a game changing interception or fumble. By far the player of the game.

Virginia:

# 91 Chris Long: 6’4” 284lbs. DE: Keep in mind I am not doubting his draft position by my review. Long was completely ineffective in this game. I have seen some of the write in reviews talking about his burst of speed. NONE! No speed here really at all! The fact hat his one major flaw will be his lack of speed rendered him useless in his attempt to stop Tech QB Harrell. Harrell stayed in the pocket, rolled around, and had plenty of time to get the ball off. Long was no where near to be found. His technique lacked some in getting off the blocks also, I was surprised. Tech had no problems containing him. Regardless of how bad the rest of this defense is, he did not show anything spectacular from a top pick. Did this hurt him, not sure but it did not help him that was for sure. GRADE: Negative

# 86 Tom Santi 6’4” 248lbs. TE: He had 3 catches for 16 yards. That was truly it here. Not very quick. Seems like though he has really great hands. Does not do well holding blocks. GRADE: Neutral

# 63 Jordy Lipsey 6’3” 280lbs. C: he had a great game taking out anything in front of him. Solid speed coming off the snap into his block. Shuffles well left to right, right to left. Held his block well. GRADE: Positive

#30 Nate Lyles 6’0” 203lbs. S: Not sure where this guy was or even if he is worth writing on. Whether he is solid or not, I have a feeling he was running from one side of the field to another trying to help with the lack of coverage. He did not do well in coverage either. GRADE: Negative

Texas Tech:

#6 Graham Harrell 6’3” 203lbs. QB 2009: I have never seen him play before this. This game he did a great job as a leader. As many passes as he threw, no interceptions, he picked apart the Virginia defense setting all kinds of passing bowl records. He seems to have solid speed, handled himself when he on the move, had solid composure when pressured. Nice game overall. He could be a good QB to watch next year, a lot will depend on the overall Tech offensive structure in place. GRADE: Very Positive

#20 Danny Amendola 5’11” 177lbs WR: Solid game with 6 catches for 88 yards. He had some decent speed and broke a few tackles. Knows where he is at and what to do when he catches the ball, solid instincts. GRADE: Positive.

Tech’s Crabtree also seemed to be in the spotlight often. 9 catches for 101 yards. Missed an easy 4th down catch for a 1st. Terrible at holding blocks, to be honest it seems like he did not even try, had better things to do. Seems like Harrell may have missed him often when open in the first half, but that is easier said when we have reply.

I am so glad someone else feels Long is over-rated!

Totally disagree on Long. My #1 SR. prospect with very few-if any- flaws in his game...

So you watched the game? You analyzed how he played that game, I am not talking past?

Disagree with what? Lets put something to it then. What in the game did he do well, please be specific?

The Tech offensive lineman, pulled back, held his position, and Long went nowhere all day long. He is too slow. Tech made it actually look easy. A Tech offensive lineman manhandled a top draft pick all day long and really made it look easy.

He was easy to block, completely inneffective, and to be honest looked really tired in the second half.

Whether he goes top pick or not, he needs work! Lots of it. He will get taken advantage of in the NFL and will need a few years to develop, if he even will.

But please put something in writing when you disagree, what about him was so great in the Tech game?

Explosion off the ball, flexibility, upper body strength, leg drive, hand placement, pad level, and pass rush moves to name a few things. I didn't catch much of the UVA game as I was mainly watching Harvey vs. Long. Could he have been meh in the game? Yes. Is he overrated or "has lots of work to do?" I don't think so, no...

Dorsey was awful in the Florida game- I don't rush to judgment after seeing one game...

I did not either, simply was reviewing one game, read the first part of what I said, I am not doubting his position in the draft, just one game.

Explosion off the ball. A fat lineman, stepped back, contained him the entire game. End of story for that game.

Flexibility, arm stength - OK fine, but his arm strength did nothing for him this game. He was beat all day long by a non rated lineman.

Pass rush - For that game! Really? Then you did not watch, he was nowhere to be found.

Overrated - I never said that. I just reviewed this one game.

To me, he is too slow to play on the end, get him closer in on the line, as I have seen him on some of his better plays, highlights, etc, then to me he plays great at the college level. he can beat linemand with his strength and skills.

That game though did nothing to help, but hopefully it did not hurt him.

But you just said he (Dorsey) was awful in that game. So you did judge him, based on that game play. Which is fine.

As I judged Long's play in the Tech game and that game alone. I did not say for the rest of the season or before.

Remember it was a game review. Not a season one.

What? I said Dorsey was awful in the UF game. I still see him as a good top 5 prospect.

And PatriotOfMaine called him overrated which is who my post was directed to..

He may be a top 5, I just have not seen him enough. I can't offer a biased review there. He also may have a ton of potential and will be work with in areas he lacks. From that standpoint I could not elaborate on it.

I would like to see what his true 40yard dash number are, etc.
