GO GIANTS!!!

Glad to see another Giant's fan. I too am very happy with how they are playing. I know that anything is possible, but to beat the Pats, they will have to play an almost perfect game. My big concern, and depending on how old you are, you may remember too, that ever since he was DC for the Giants, ol' Bill usually doesn't have too much of a difficulty if he has 2 weeks to prepare for someone like he has now. Plus, when they played last, the Pats killed them in the second half, so BB obviously made the right adjustments. We'll see though...but I don't have my hopes too high. Nice to have a fellow G-man fan to talk to.

I'm super pumped for this game. This is a watchable Super Bowl, it hasn't been a good one since Panthers/Pats a few years back.

Guys,

You may or may not have noticed the Official Superbowl Thread. Please use that as a trash talk thread. Tell those Patties how you're gonna destroy them in the Superbowl, or just talk about anything Superbowl-related...you deserve it!
BarnabyWilde
I am not tash talking the Pats, simply giving props to the Giants. Big difference there.

Tell em', BarnabyWilde! Tell me something...have you seen or heard from TIKI...or his equally obnoxious brother Ronde lately?

LOL....nope. I wonder what Tiki is thinking right about now about Eli and the Giants. smile.gif

Merrill Hoge was asked about this on ESPN, and he said the Giants are better without Tiki, and without Shockey...and that both are cancers. I've stated for a long time, that Shockey is a good, but not the elite TE he thinks he is. Perhaps he could be if he were more humble, and showed up for workouts with his teammates, instead of his UofM buddies.
BarnabyWilde
Maybe both are locker room cancers, but both wanted to win and worked hard on the field. I love Shockey, but I am starting to think that maybe they are better without him. I really like this kid Boss. He does everything you ask of him and does it all well. I think this years draft (07) yielded some great players like Ross,Smith, Bradshaw, Boss and Johnson. I think maybe whoever evaluated the Giants draft here on CDS better bo back and rethink the D grade they gave the Giants for drafting Bradshaw at pick #250.

Well, one thing is for sure, BarnabyWilde, they have done more without him, than they did with him. He drops too many balls, especially easy ones. He does make up for it now and then, but if you ask me, too many drives have ended because he didn't catch a ball that hit him right in the hands. I agree with you about the kid Boss. Good looking TE. I think teams thought they could forget about covering the TE with Shockey gone, but he's proven otherwise. A better blocker too.

The level of talent from team to team in the NFL is not very great. It has pretty much accomplished its goal of parity by spreading the talent around. Therefore, a teams morale and tightness are just as important today, as making the correct moves in the draft and FA.

In fact, they are all intertwined. Many GMs now are involved in looking into the character of the players they may be interested in acquiring or drafting. I am a big fan of the Chargers too, and their GM has been very clear on his views of players who are not "team" oriented. The Pats too have put players they acquire under the "character microscope" too, if you will.

I'm not talking about the criminal aspect of a person's personality here, but the interpersonal skills they have or don't have. Their ability to mesh into a team atmosphere...to buy into the system, and develop or hone their skills to contribute in various ways...to become part of a well oiled machine striving for the same goal as everyone else on their team is.

There are a lot of talented players that just are not harmonious locker room people. TO is one. Moss had the same reputation, and although he's had a great year, the jury's still out on him, as far as I'm concerned. Losman in Buffalo is another that has teammates ruffled. Teams are looking for players without the baggage...without the drama.

Tiki and Shockey were or are talents, but they have also proven to be disrupting influences that affect the Giants ability to function on a consistently high level. IMO, we trade Shockey for whatever someone will give us for him, and move on. I think he's a "drama queen," ala TO.

I owuld love to root for the Giants, who wants to see someone go undefeated? But I would have to check the handbook, I do not think Cowoy fans can root for the Giants?

nyyjones--I have finally accomplished the ultimate Super Bowl match-up with my absolute favorite team since 1960-the New England Patriots--and the team I grew up with on television during the 1950's and 1960's and 1970's--the New York Football Giants. These are also my wife's two favorite teams and until Tom Brady appeared, she was a Giants fan first over the Patriots (she really had a dislike for Bledsoe) So, I have followed both teams extensively in the past 45 years and you have made the most accurate post about Tiki Barber and Jeremy Shockey. I noticed that with Shockey in the game, Eli forced throws to him because "the squeeky wheel gets the grease" I was often times a little anti-Eli because of the incompletions that developed in his attempts to "get Shockey the ball" In rethinking those games, I think Shockey ran routes as he pleased and does not consider that if you take a 10 yard pass play and cut the yardage to 8 then you will get to the destination ahead of the ball. in this case, it will look like the quarterback threw behind you when in fact you did not run the proper route for the timing and yardage. The Giants are clicking on all cylinders and I love the defensive pressure they are able to generate. Good Luck on Sunday and I just feel I am in a win-win situation--thanks for listening--rich from newport

That's the position I'm in too, rich. Nice to hear from you, BTW. I have followed BB everywhere he's gone after he left NY for Cleveland, and I knew a long time ago he would be a real good HC...he certainly hasn't disappointed. I've always been a big fan of his, and will continue to be as long as he coaches, be it NE, or elsewhere. It's interesting, and a bit sobering too, I might add, to find someone else who's old enough to have followed the G-men for 45 years...LOL! Even more sobering, when I think back, and realize my Uncle took me to my first Giants game 50 years ago this year!

As for Shockey, when I saw him make that incredible catch in the pre-season of his rookie year, I thought...WOW...we've got a stud TE! But, as far as I'm concerned, that's the best catch he ever made, and for some time now I've made posts...here and on other boards of my concerns about him...he's no Gates...no Gonzalez...no Witten...no Clark...now I see him not as a stud TE...but a DUD!

The one thing I'm hoping for, is because of his publicity machine, and to a great extent some misguided reporters from the NY press, other people are still enamored with his so called ability. Hopefully the Giant's brass will take advantage of that ignorance in the off-season and get a decent draft pick for him and move on. Thanks, rich, and good luck to you too!

Ugh...

The way I figure it, the Giants owe at least some degree of gratitude to the Eagles for this win.

First off, we gave you Steve Spagnuolo. He's done an amazing job, especially with that front seven. (Although the win probably assures that he'll be offered the Skins HC position.)

And then in Week 10 the Eagles developed the blueprint for defeating the Pats (unfortunately we had AJ Feeley trying to pull it off).

Well, the blueprint for defeating the Pats was pretty simple. Just get pressure on Brady. Surely, another team could've figured that out.

That was an issue of Jimmies and Joes not Xs and Os, the Giant have: Strahan, Tuck, Umenyiora, Alford, Cofield, and Robbins all or above average to GREAT in terms of pass rush moves and the Patriots gave up on the run so they could pin their ears back. wink.gif

To some extent, I agree with you. However, the Chargers also have a plethora of great pass rushers, and they didn't get the pressure on Brady they should have. I would like to reiterate a point I made in the pre-season...back then I said, and I still believe, the Pats Oline is not that good.

I made a post that it was my opinion they are great, when Brady takes 3 step drops, and throws a quick pass. However, once they got Moss and Stallworth, I knew that dictated a deeper drop...5-7 steps, to allow the patterns to develop, and I was sure it would expose their OL's weaknesses, especially against speed rushers. However, give credit to them...they schemed very well for the most part during the season, hiding this weakness very well. I believe the Giants saw something on film, and found the weakness, or secret, if you will, to their scheme.

Another thing that I found questionable on the Pat's part, was even though Welker caught a record tying 11 balls, I thought they "forgot" about him for a long time, especially in the 3rd quarter. He was killing the Giants, yet they never made the Giants take him away...instead, they did that themselves. By utilizing him more, Brady could have made a lot of 3 step drops until the Giants adjusted, and that probably would have opened up the long ball. It was like they had it in their head, that they were going to attack the Giant's weak DBs, come hell or high water...and in the end, it probably cost them the game. IMO, they were the better team...however, on Super Bowl Sunday they weren't, and in reality that's all that matters.
