Does anyone else think Felix Jones would be an odd choice for the Cardinals in the first round? I think there biggest need is at corner back and I think they address that in round 1 or round 2 and if they don't pick up a corner back in round 1 I think that someone has dropped to them in a pass rushing position. Jones would be nice, I think they can get better value and do a better job of addressing team needs on the other side of the ball.

Well the running game must be addressed by the Cards. Wiz isn't going to stand by and not have a good running game. Russ Grimm as well. They should add something at RB IMHO. People think Jones might run in the 4.3s at the combine and we all know that means $$$. I'd think the Cards would want a back who's a tad bigger, but maybe Jones reminds them of Willie Parker. I don't know if I answered your question, but a few thoughts that popped into my head.

Do you think F. Jones will go in front of Stewart and Mendenhall?

I'm starting to think that Stewart will go before Jones and Mendenhall.

As for your original question, yes, HB would be an "odd" choice for Arizona. However, ever year, the first round features at the very least two or three of these "odd" choices, so the mock draft is simply taking a stab in the dark and projecting HB for the Cardinals in this installment as one of the surprises (because there WILL be surprises).

If Derrick Harvey isn't there, I don't think there is an OLB worth that pick, and at the time this mock draft was made (pre-senior bowl), Leodis McKelvin had not yet established himself as a first-round CB.

An update will be coming soon, so keep your eyes open Stripes...

Thanks, I'll be looking for it. I think I'm getting caught up in the needs of the team and not looking at the value of the players still available at that point in the draft. It would be nice if Harvey dropped to 16.

Do you honestly think Stewart will go before Mendenhall, gpngc? I don't disagree with him before Jones, but if he goes before Mendenhall I'd be surprised, personally. IMO, Mendenhall might be the best back in this draft, 5 years from now. I really like him a lot.

I really don't know. I'm so torn on the three of them it's ridiculous. I love all three really. For some reason I personally think I'll end up ranking them: Mendenhall, Jones, Stewart, but a lot of people don't see it that way for various reasons (Big Ten HB's, Jones split carries, etc.)

Stewart was a great college back but I don't see why he'd be anything more than an average joe at the NFL level. Then again I may be wrong.

As far as how they'll go in the draft... I just get the feeling it's going to be Stewart, Jones, Mendenhall, but a lot can and WILL change from now until the draft....

It's all going to depend on 40 times. I think Mendenhall will emerge as the 2nd back, but Stewart in his defense, does not fit every team. I think Stewart is a more impressive runner, but I think Mendenhall has more to over long term.

With Fitzgerald's salary hit, there is a chance he will be released if nothing can be worked out. They plan to tag Dansby if no contract is forthcoming there too.

Rolleis going to be moved to S. If he doesnt ill be surprised. Cb is now the #1 need no questions asked. If they were bad at Rolle at the CB spot its going to be even worse. I see them being able to land 1 of these Jekins McKelvin Talib and Cromartie Smith. Any 1 of those will be day 1 starters. The RB class is really deep this year. They can wait 1 more round (or 2).

I just represented the Cards in a 3 round member mock on footballguys. This is what I drafted for the Cards.

round 1 Aqib Talib CB Kan (Harvey went to Detroit one pick in front of me) with the move of Rolle to safety this seemed to be priority 1a or 1b

round 2 Jamaal Charles (Good complement to Edge right now and has the ability/frame/speed to be a featured back in the near future. Groves went at the end of the 1st)

round 3 Bruce Davis DE/OLB UCLA (tried to move up in the 3rd round for Crable but stayed put for Davis who was #5 on my hybrid 3-4 OLB board behind Gholston, Harvey, Groves, and Crable)

I like those picks. Was McKelvin still availble. McKelvin and Rodgers-Cromartie are moving up on a lot of draft boards. It will be interesting to see what happens at the combine next week.

WOW. That is perfect for your team IMO. Davis in the 3rd is a steal!!!

Not bad, on what side would you line-up Davis? unsure.gif

McKelvin was the 1st CB off the board to the Pats at 7. Cromartie went 16 to Houston.

Heres a link to the mock. Some knowledgable guys on this site FWIW.

The Cards will need a strong side LB if they don't retain Pace. Might not be a bad sport for Davis. They franchise tagged Dansby so hopefully they get something worked out and he stays healthy.

Sorry, I haven't been avoiding the question, just busy. biggrin.gif

Crable might be a good SAM option also in the 2nd/3rd. wink.gif

If you have the Cards taking a RB in the 1st round, it appears that won't happen. They will likely use a mid-round draft pick, or FA to shore up the running game, and concentrate on other areas of need in the drafts first 2-3 rounds.

Yeah, I've been thinking they need a lot more help on the defensive side of the ball. They need a DE, a CB, and a linebacker with Pace most likely leaving. They may take step back this year if they don't get some of their contracts under control.
bcdrama
This will be a CB draft, future All-Pro types, you should grab one like Jenkins, McKelvin or Rodger-Cromartie, you can get Calvin Pace 2.0 if you select Jeremy Thompson in the 2nd/3rd. Beau Bell or Tavares Gooden and Guyton are LBs that could play inside or outside. wink.gif
