I will be contiously updating The Niners with new drafts.
Round 1 #29 Limas Sweed University of Texas WR - The Niners need a Offensive playmaker without a question. Many would argue to take a Defensive player here, but i argue otherwise. For the most part the Niner defense played above average given their situation. Having Manny Lawson back will immedialty improve this team. This is one of those cases where improing the Offense would in turn improve the Defense. The Niners Defense rank in the bottem 3 yards per play category defensive wise. Their Defense is out their 75% of the time in a game. That will take its toll on any Defensive unit. Now that i have argued why Offense is a bigger need, let me argue why the Sweed the Niners pick. Yes Sweed had surgury that sidelined him for half of the 07 year but before that he was a beast. He recorded 12 TD in the 06 season. At 6-5 220 he is a red zone target something that the Niners desperatly need. With 20 TD in his career that is the 2nd most in history. And we are not talking about some mid major school, Its Texas! He is a great leaper, Productive, Hard woeker, Makes big plays when it matters the most. Will come in the 1st year and start right away.
Round 2 #40 Chis Ellis University of Virginia Tech OLB - Everybody knows that the Niners defense has some holes in them OLB being 1 of them. Ellis can play both 4-3 and 3-4 making him servicable to the Niners. He has everything a team looks for in a 3-4 OLB. He is Technically sound, has an Outstanding motor, good athalete, does good against the run and recorded 53 tackles, 9 TFL, and 8.5 Sacks. The Niners only recorded 31 sacks last season. Having Lawson back Willis and Smith in the Middle and Ellis opposite will make for a very good 3-4 LB corp.
Round 3 #71 Trevor Laws University of Notre Dame DE - The Fighting Irish really suffered this year, but Laws was not a reason why. After his Junior year he really had an amazing year. He has started DT most of his college career, ut in his Senior year was moved to 3-4 end. As a 3-4 end he recorded an amazing 112 tackles 8 TFL 4 sacks. The Niners woul add another guy who has a non stop motor, productive, and technically sound. He has a ton of experience with top notch competition, is a leader very smart and propelled himself after the Senior Bowl. Would be a great addition to any team
Round 4 #103 Frank Okam University of Texas NT - The Niners add another Texas prospect. Everybody is aware of Okam's athletic ability, but he has some major motor and durability issues. He can stop almost anybody if he gets his hands on them. He has the deal size and bulk of a 3-4 Nose. Can surprisingly disrupt the pocket. He holds his ground, and has good 40 for a man his size. Many would argue that he may not be here, but his stock is dropping rapidly which would be a good thing for the Niners who need quality players.
Round 5 #135 Jeremy Lehman University of Illinois ILB - Again the Niners adress the LB spot. This time its the ILB. Derek Smith has been very shaky this season, and it has come to a point where Willis ends up taking away tackles from Smith. Derek smith who is 32 probably wont stay with the Niners very long anyway. Lehman is one of the greatest ILB in Illi history. He has recorded over 280 tackles in 2 seasons! He is a great leader in the lockerroom also.
Round 6 #168 Carlton Medder University of Florida T/G - The Niners had 1 of the worst O-line units in 07. They traded for Staley last year which actually proved to be a good move. Staley was by far the best O-line men in that group and is only a rookie. They have alot of aging guys at O-line, but another reason why they were so dismal is the serious lack of depth. Medder was the starting RT for the national champs in 06 Florida, and has some exeperince at G.
