Mr. Knowitall
Hey fellow Jaguars fans I am taking over as forum leader, the Jags have some holes to fill at DE, WR, and SS. Also Jaguars have resigned FB Greg Jones to a 5 year, 17 million dollar deal, I feel they are overpaying what do you guys think?

Who do you think they draft in the 1st round? Right now I think it will be: Merling, Harvey or Groves at pick #27 to fill the pass rushing DE need.
gpngc
Merling or Jackson. I don't think Harvey falls that low and I don't think Groves goes in round one.

As for WR being a need- I'm not sold. They are a run-first team and Reggie Williams is quietly having a decent career. He's not a true #1 WR but with that running attack do you really need one? Plus a WR can only be as good as his QB and scheme is. Look how Randy Moss did in Oakland. Part of the WR thing for the Jags is people look at the stats and there isn't a big-time guy that stands out on paper. But, the facts are- this was one of the NFL's elite teams last season and the WR's had a lot to do with it.

As for Greg Jones- yea it's probably a bit much, but you have to love this kid. He's one of the few FB's in this league who are a threat with the ball in his hands.

I just think 3+ Million is too much for a FB and at WR, Williams had a great year in the Redzone but Garrard needs a guy who can stretch the field.

I wouldn't be opposed to adding a speedster like that. But is Garrard really the type of QB who NEEDS that guy? I don't know, he went 12-4 this year.

Garrard does not NEED him but it would allow the Jags to throw a little more and teams would have to respect the deep ball which helps the run.

Fair enough.

It's a bit weird how we both like the Jags as our second favorite team while our favorite teams are rivals.

I guess that is kind of weird. What do you think Marcedes? I think he really improved at the end of the year, he might turn into a very good TE. I really like what I have saw from Estandia, too.
bcdrama
If Rucker is on the board when you pick in the 2nd he and Lewis would give you a young, big good TE tandem. Hall might give you a tru deep threat in the 3rd or Douglas, if you want to wait until the 6th, Dexter Jackson, or in the 7th Jaymar Johnson. At SS Marcus Watts in the 7th, at SS D.J Wolfe in the 3rd/4th or Josh Barrett in the 4th/5th would be a nice touch. As for DE Campbell, Jackson, are options the Vikings will likely snag Harvey. wink.gif

Campbell is an option but I see the JAgs passing on him because the players Del Rio loves are the hardworking players with great motors and Campbell has been know to be lazy.
jagdup
merling would be the best pick here.
Mr. Knowitall
Who would you guys rather see the Jags go after in UFA: Justin Smith or Antwan Odom?

I really don't know where the "lazy" label comes from. He did not match last year's numbers, but there were some circumstances that caused that. I met him once, briefly spoke with him, and was able to hear part of a conversation he had with someone else. I can only tell you I think he has a chance to be dominant. He speaks really well, and does not seem to have any off field baggage for teams to worry about. I like Campbell, and think the team that drafts him will get a top 10 player, likely after the 15th pick as most mocks have him. I sure wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Cincy pick him in the top 10, where I personally believe he belongs.

I don't have 1st hand experience with him so I will take your word from it but from what I heard he does not have a great motor and takes plays off.

His problem was really stamina. He played mostly passing downs for most of his sophomore year. This past season he played a whole lot more, and I think it was more a question of being ready physically. He's working with a personal trainer now, and has really strengthened himself since the end of the season. He will be better prepared for the pros physically, IMO, than he was for his junior season in college. Don't be surprised if he puts up some unreal numbers in Indy and makes a sudden jump up the draft boards.

We will see after your combine...if what you are saying is true then he could be a real freak.

Jags and Vikes are said to be close to a deal that will bring Troy Williamson to Jacksonville for a mid round draft pick.

That is pretty big because he would give the Jags a legit deep threat and may be a change of scenery will do him good.

Can you really be considered a deep "threat" when it's 50/50 on whether or not you'll catch the ball? laugh.gif

As long as he can outrun the CB I think it is fine. Matt Jones is like that on any pass...short or long!!!!
bcdrama
If Jacksonville wants a big WR who can catch the ball:
Marcus Monk- Not a deep threat but has good hands and can break tackles.
Micah Rucker is very similar to Monk but has even better jump ball ability.
Urrutia and Wheelwright do not have very good hands and Hardy might go before you pick in the 2nd. wink.gif

They have enough big WRs...they need a guy who can stretch a defense.

TRADE: Jaguars trade their 6th round pick
Minnesota trades Troy Williamson

Day 2 Deep Threats- Donnie Avery: Small, quick fast and good HANDS!
Andre"Bubba" Caldwell:A climber with a strong body, bloodlines and field IQ and may actually go day 1.
Will Franklin: Rangy, fast, raw but has loads of potential.
Dexter Jackson: Another waterbug with return value.
Anthony Alridge: Very much like Mark Jackson, prootype slot.
Justin Harper is a raw project, he's big and can fly and his teammate Josh Morgan is a slightly shorter, stronger version of him.
Royal is likely gone day 1.
Pierre Garcon is a D-III prospect who looks like a "ppor Man's" Eric Moulds.

I don't know what happened, but when this kid was drafted, one of his supposedly strong points was "big, soft hands."

I do know the Viking offense has not been very WR friendly during his time up there, so going to a more stable organization with a decent QB might resurrect his career.

LEMON STAYS IN THE LAND OF ORANGES

Quarterback Cleo Lemon has a new team, and he still won't be paying state income taxes.

According to Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com, Lemon has agreed to terms with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He previously played for the Miami Dolphins.

It's a three-year, $8.1 million deal. It includes a $2.95 million signing bonus and $4 million in incentives.

Lemon will serve as the backup to starter David Garrard.
Mr. Knowitall
Jags have made 2 moves today...they have signed WR Jerry Porter and QB Cleo Lemon...I would have rather had Bryant Johnson but I guess Porter is decent.
Mr. Knowitall
It is being reported that the Jags have agreed to a deal with CB Drayton Florence!!!!
Mr. Knowitall
Do you guys think a change of scenery will do Troy Williamson good?

This is something that could very much surprise Jaguar fans but they may take Joe Flacco with pick #26, Jaguar's QB Coach Mike Shula took him out to dinner to meet with him after his Pro Day and was said to have alot of interest in him...here is a video that talks about Flacco's Pro Day and mentions Shula after the Flacco interview and Shula also does an interview:

I alluded to this in a post a few days ago in a post on one of the other Jaguar boards. Something you might be interested in knowing is the Bucs are also looking at him at 20.
Mr. Knowitall
I forgot to post this but the Jags resigned starting OG and backup RT Maurice Williams.
