I just read that the current trade rumor involving DeAngelo Hall is:

Hall to the Giants---> 31st overall pick to the Browns--> Brady Quinn to Atlanta.

If it's true, our new GM kicks the asses of all GMs in the history of the franchise.

Resulting questions:

1. The Browns are willing to take a loss on Quinn within 12 months without him even starting a football game?

2. If that's the case, do they know something we don't?

3. What do we then do about the CB positiion?

4. A proven CB for an unproven QB?

I get the whole "Hall is a locker room problem" thing, and while I'd probably grow to like it, those are the immediate things which come to mind.

Assuming that this is true (big assumption as I have not been able to confirm the rumor, yet)

Basically, it comes down to who do you like better: one of the QBs in this draft or Brady Quinn? Secondly, Steve Wyche is reporting that Dallas, Washington, and the G-Men all want DeAngelo. That means bidding war, which means Hall is gone.

Cleveland would be on the hook for Some of Quinn's contract, which is an advantage to us.

It's a lot easier to find a CB than it is to find a QB. If you can swap a hole at CB for filling a hole at QB, you do that without a 2nd thought.

Cleveland does get hosed in this deal. They may be of a mind that Anderson is their guy, and that this is the best they can do for Brady Quinn. I think it's crazy, but I want to believe this rumor a whole bunch, so I'm not dwelling on that part right now.

I'd probably have to toss a coin between Quinn and Ryan, if I'm honest. The follow up question would be this:

Pick #3 for a QB or DeAngelo Hall for a QB?

The question then is, is Hall worth more or less than the #3 pick...I think most fans would say less, but that's for the franchise to decide.

1. They never even thought of Anderson coming in and playing like he did. Ever since that 2nd game of the season when it was like 55-48 Browns win over Bengals, I think Phil Savage liked what he saw in DA and realized it was a mistake drafting Quinn.

2. I don't think so, unless the Falcons don't know that Brady loves watching game tapes and is a leader. Dmitroff knows Charlie Weis from the connection in NE and he proboly has talked to Weis about Quinn's arm, smarts, and leadership.

3. This is a very deep CB class and everyone knows it, the early 2nd could now be spent on a guy like Antoine Cason or whoever the odd man out of the 1st is. Houston and Cason would be good in a few years, but can we wait that long? Also, if we do lose Hall, I think we should take a chance on Ikeguonu fom Wisconsin who is a 1st round talent who unfortunately got hurt.

4. I would take Quinn over Matt Ryan anyday honestly. Ryan forces waaay too many balls. He had like what 18 picks or so? Some say its due to not having a true #1 reciever, but if you make a bad choice, it doesn't matter if the WR is good.

He's worth far less than the #3 pick. He'd be worth the #3 pick if he didn't lose his composure and focus on the field periodically.

Also, cjs, keep in mind that there are solid CBs on the free agency market. There aren't solid QBs.

If Cleveland is in, then this is a no-brainer to me.

However, if Dallas and Washington are also interested in DeAngelo, maybe we can get a QB and a draft pick out of this.

One assumes that Dallas would offer pick #28. Washington, because Dan Snyder treats draft picks the way that heroin addicts treat cash, would offer pick #21, Quinn was drafted at #22 last year.

Honestly. I think the basic idea of this trade is great.

Do you have a link, source, or you just thought it up?

Anyway, I think there would have to be some tweaking of course. But the general idea of Quinn, Hall, 31, seems close enough for me, give or take a 3rd here or a 3rd there....

It helps all three teams...

I am desperately seeking a source that Atlanta is talking to Cleveland. I read this rumor on another site as a 3-team deal, although it could just be Atlanta making two moves.

However, the Newark Star-Ledger wrote that the Giants are offering pick 31 and their 5th round picks for DeAngelo.

The fifth round picks sound stupid. It would give Atlanta 14 likely picks in the upcoming draft, which is dumb. Much better to deal for an '09 pick in addition to the 1st round this year.

As for Cleveland... I can't find anything, but the source who posted is usually pretty level-headed.
yerckson3420
I would think Clev could get more. But if I am Atl, I love the trade. If you can trade out of the 3rd to get a good corner in the mid 2st, add a QB in quinn and add RB with early 2nd rounder.
jerry14
Take J.Long in the 1st Cason/Porter in the 2nd and so on.... This would be a brilliant trade on behalf of the Falcons part

Proven, unproven or not, Hall is a FA next season and its better to get something for him npw then nothing next year bc obviously he wants out of ATL.
B_rent87
I know this doesn't have to do with this thread at all, but does anyone know what teams are interested in acquiring Vilma?

Saints, Jaguars, and Rams is what I've heard so far.

Not enough. Need a 2 to go with that.

Just to spice things up- the Giants are also reportedly interested in Marcus Trufant, and unless they are willing to shell out two firsts, the only way they can get him is in a trade.
cjs206
Looks like Hall is almost certainly a gonner. Shame really, I hope we get a damned good deal...

Thats great to hear...we could have a good LB core with Spooner at SLB and Vilma at ILB.

I saw that rumor too, and put it on the Giant's forum. However, I really doubt that would happen. Whoever trades for Hall would have to get him signed for a long-term contract, or lose him. Not a smart move, and you know Hall will want Clements type money. Secondly, he didn't have that good a year, and was beaten quite regularly. If I had my choice between him and Clements based on last year, I'd take Clements, who had a way better year. I'm not saying that's all his fault, but the fact is, he was beaten all year long. If I'm the Giant's GM, and I'm going to spend that much money, I'd spend a few dollars more (Sounds like a good title for a movie), and get a CB with superior coverage skills to Hall in Samuel from NE, and keep my No1 draft pick and get a LB or OT, filling two needs while spending pretty much the same money for the CB.

Besides, I want to reward Samuel for dropping that interception;)

One FA I haven't heard us mention is Michael "The Burner" Turner. Anyone fancy seeing him in Atlanta?

Him and Norwood would be great. If we get our enough of our needs filled and he's still unsigned, I would love to have him aboard. He would still be splitting carries, but he would be getting the majority. IDK if he wwants to come to ATL though.
bipolarboy
He's been impressive in San Diego. Can he shoulder more burden that five carries a game, though?

He's probably going to get a $4 mill/yr deal minimum.

I don't know why any free agent would want to come to Atlanta this year if he had a choice. Who'd want to be a good player on a bad team?
Falcon32
I def if Im an ATL fan love this trade because last year u jus dont wanna remember n this shows signs of a new turn and new path for them to go down instead of where they are. Cleveland they dont really gfet back wat they had to give to get Quinn but they get something back so not a total loss still think they should hold onto Quinn spec if DA is only good fro 07 and sucks in 08 but will have to wait and find out. Giants fans get a good cb and i like this play by the defending super bowl champs.
bipolarboy
I haven't been able to confirm this rumor anywhere. It appears to be false.

I haven't even read anything regarding the Browns listening to offers for Brady Quinn.

This turned out to be a pretty nice prediction/guess eh?
