The bears will reportedly sign rex grossman to a 1-2 year, incintive based deal as early as today.
yerckson3420
The bears will likely try to trade Greise for a 5th or 6th. If unsucsessful they will cut him adding aproximately 5 million to the cap.

With that move and some other cuts and reportadely berrien and briggs not wanting to return we should have somewhere around 30 million free.

I know you don't build franchises via FA, but we need alot of wholes filled.

We could sign Bryant Johnson or Stallworth, Michael Turner, Julius Jones or Ryan Grant. The gaurd bell and the OT from jax. his name escapes me @ the moment.

Thanks raider.

Bears are working on extending Orton thru 2010.

I don't care for ESPN, but on ESPN radio this morning Jeff Dickerson and Chet Copeck(excuse my spelling) reported that Briggs is a lock to go to SF and Berrian is almost certainly going to Minn.

Couldn't tell if they usually have pretty good sources.

Now Briggs is gne would the Bears then take Keith Rivers as a OLB in the 1st? Maybe even reach on a guy like James Hardy who did great at the combine? Or still stay with Clady, Otah or Williams?

PS Im starting getting interested in the Bears offseason because my brothers a Bears fan.
yerckson3420
Your brother si a smart man, or he loves being misserable on sundays. One or the other.

It really depends what we do in FA. As of right now without guessing any FA pick ups I would guess we would go.

two different ways

A B
1st CLady 1st Mendenhall
2nd Chris Johnson or Jamal CHarles 2nd Henne
3rd OG, DT, LB 3rd OL, maybe DT

Ya never know. If I was an adviser to Jerry I would tell him to spend alot of money on o-line and WR, because there are a ton of RB's in this class and angelos is better with drafting defense anyway.

I would be happy if we traded the 14th and picked up another 2nd and 3rd.

Because IMO this draft kinda teeters out after abbout 9-10 pick and after that howecer it is a really deep draft full of solid players.
BNeL21
Bears are going to go with Balmer in the 1st, I can feel it in my bones. I don't hate the pick as much as I originally did, since I think Angelo will screw it up and take the wrong O-Lineman or RB with the 1st pick. They could go:
1st - Balmer
2nd - Nicks from Nebraska or Collins from Kansas
3rd - RB, QB or WR that falls or Oline again
3rd - ditto
4th - Erik Ainge maybe?

I don't know, I just don't see the Bears drafting even remotely close to any of the die hard fans like myself are hoping for. Damm Angelo.

Balmer wouldn't be a bad choice but if you pass on Mendenhall, [if he's there] you will regret it.
He could make your offense 2 dimensional, he is a willing blocker in blitz pickup and has good hands. wink.gif

In ten years from now Mendenhall could be the best back from this draft. When you consider everything from durability, recieving, rushing, blocking vision and amount of carries.

I would love him as a bear.

But I also wouldn't mind shoring some things up via FA before the draft.

If we did make a splash and sign turner we wouldn't feel bad about picking up Balmer or Clady in the 1st. Or if for some freak reason Ryan fell to 14....perfect. You will already have your back and QB.
bcdrama
If Ryan fall to you it's because they have finally seen through the HYPE! Avould him!! He's just Jake Delhomme with much better P.R! blink.gif Take a developmental QB like John David Booty in the 3rd or Kevin O'Connell in the 4th/5th and build depth on both lines, this is also a good draft for 3rd down/change of pace backs: Jamaal Charles, Calvin Dawson, Justin Forsett, Rafael Little, Allen Patrick, Louis Rankin, Ray Rice, Chad Simpson, and Steve Slaton are all day 2 guys who fit the bill, Charles might go day one but the others should be there. wink.gif

It would take much to be a change of the bears Rb pace. I think a zamboni could break away from a pack easier than benson or peterson!!!!!

If Ryan did fall to us would we get TB or SF to trade up for him.

I personally like Ryan and then Henne in this draft. But odds are you would know a little more about this than me.

Tommie Harris is reported to want a 4 year extension and around 20 million garaunteed.(he will get it)

There are rumblings about urlacher wanting his deal re-worked or he will want to be traded. WTF!?!?! He has four years left on his deal and just came down with an arthritic back condition that can't be fixed and will only get worse. Not to mention is coming off of neck surgery.

If you can get a 1st rounder for him, then send his arse off. I am not that attached to him like most Bear fans.

Trade Urlacher! What !?! Blasphemy!!!!

I'm kidding. If someone would give us a 1st rounder for him, which I kind of doubt at this point, we would have to consider it. We could then draft Dan Connor as the heir apparent, and while the talent level is a definite dropoff, I don't think it would kill our defense unless our safeties get even worse, which shouldn't happen.

Marcus Stroud is reportedly on the block, and if healthy he'd look great next to Tommie Harris. Maybe our second third rounder would entice the Jags?
bcdrama
Forget a 1st, see if you can get a 2nd and a 3rd for him, if so pull the trigger! wink.gif

I think we could get a mid 2nd for him. With this draft class being pretty solid for 80 -100 picks, I would even trade him for atlantas 2 3rd rounders.
BNeL21
Tribune was speculating this morning that Briggs and Berrian are still unsigned becuase the offers they've looked at(if any) have been equal to or less than what the Bears were offering. We may end up with them after all. I highly doubt it, but it's a possibility. I'd be shocked if Briggs didn't get a huge offer thrown at him by someone(SF or TB?)

Atlanta has 2 seconds, a early 3rd and proboly a 3rd comp for patrick kerney.....
BNeL21
They probably won't be trading any of them either, they need a lot of help. And they can't trade the compensatory selection, although they signed joey Harrington so that will cancel out the Kerney loss(j/k). Urlacher isn't going anywhere in my opinion.

You are probably right he's clearly damaged goods, he's no longer a combination of Butkus, Ray Lewis and Wilbur Marshall, he's lost pop and range due to his back. A few years ago you could have gotten the Moon and stars for him, now you might be stuck with Uranus. laugh.gif

If Ryan is there and you get a compelling offer you should trade out of that spot, this is a VERY DEEP draft at CB/WR and solid at most other positions except Saftey which is very weak. wink.gif

I'm gonna tell you right now that the "uranus" humor is very welcome on the bears forum.

Is Chicago gonna sign any o-linemen or WR's?!?!?!

We only heve 7 pickl I think. But we have a good 10 holes to fill!!!
yerckson3420
I don't have any reason or speculation to back this up, but I think the bears will make a few moves on Tues.

They pulled an offer off the table to Brendon Ayanbadejo shortly after they unloaded Griese and his 5,000,000 dollar contract.

I just wonder if they are going to pull in some guys or resign Tommie Harris. Keep in mind Angelo has a ggod and long history with Warick Dunn.

They have to know as well as us that they have more holes than the draft can fill, so they must sign some players.

I would be happy if they signed gaurd Hadnot or Brown, OT maurice Williams and WR jsaon Bryant or Hackett.
yerckson3420
Total pipe dream, don't **** on my parade!

Couple of trades I'd like to see the bears make. I am of the opinion that this draft is loaded with talent in the first 3 rounds, so i would love to trade down to add picks. The bears are clearly fine with building from within and the draft and taking their lumps this year.

I wouldn't mind trading the 14th unless Clady fell(not likely)

Dallas three things that make them a good trade partner for that pick; 1) the luxury of 2 first rounders, 2) I think a desire and ability to try and win now with impact players, 3) A crazy enough owner to do it

Trade--- Dallas trades 28th, 2nd and a conditional 3rd in 09 for the 14th pick to take Talib or Mendenhall

Green Bay has a really good, young deep team and can afford to trade picks to move up and get higher value picks.

When a DE or TE falls to chicagos pick that Gb would covet in the second they swap 25th(in 2nd) 28th(in 3rd) For the Bears 13th in the 2nd and bears 6th or 7th.( I will leave bears 6th pick in because they should get a few comp picks)

1st-28th(from dallas) WR james hardy

2nd-25th(from GB) OT anthony collins
30th(from Dallas) RB chris johnson

3rd-12th(bears) OG roy shuening
27th(from SD 07) DT marcus harrison
28th(from GB) QB josh johnson

4th- OT mike fladell

5th- OG adam kraus

6th- ILB danny Lansanah

7th- WR edward williams (WR from Lane I like alot, big sleeper IMO)
