Breaking news is that Jeremy Shockey has been traded by the World Champions to the Saints for a second and fifth round draft pick. This comes less than 24 hours after Jason Taylor swapped Miami for Washington D.C. in what is quickly becoming a very busy time for trades. Indeed, unless anyone can find another 24hrs in which more than 2 players were traded, it would make the last 24hrs the second busiest trade season in the NFL after draft weekend.

Anywho, Kevin Boss will assume the #1 TE role in NY, while Shockey will be looking to return to the Super Bowl with the Saints, who surely now must be favorites in the NFC South.

I can only say that as a Giant fan, I am very disappointed in Shockey's career there. I'm not talking about his numbers, they're very good, and he'll really solidify my choice of New Orleans as the NFC Champion. Perhaps a change of scenery will do him good...rejuvenate him. But, it has been obvious, for some time now, that he was not meant to play in New York.

I've heard all kinds of people saying now the Redskins' acquisition of Taylor was a "division changing" pickup. I've heard it on ESPN, on ESPN radio, and on the NFL network. Can someone send me some of what they're smoking? The last time I looked the Redskins played in the NFC East. Who, in their right mind, would make the claim that Jason Taylor will be the "missing piece" to vault the Skins to the Super Bowl?

I'm sitting here wondering howa pass rush specialist only will change the face of the division. I can see it now, especially with two teams, the Giants and Cowboys. They'll get in the huddle, and the first play they're going to call is for their big RB (Jacobs or Barber) to run at the "little guy." I would think you will see that play called a lot until the defense over adjusts, and opens a hole somewhere else.

Of the two trades, the Saints got the better short and long-term solution. The biggest complaint about Shockey as a TE is his blocking. The truth is, he is a pretty good, not great, but pretty good blocker. He just doesn't like to block, and makes a stink about it. If he can stay healthy, and keep his mouth shut, the Saints got themselves a Pro Bowl caliber player to insert into an already very potent offense for a 2nd and a 5th. Not bad. If both players remain injury free, it will also allow the Saints to concentrate on other areas in next year's draft...the same claim can't be made for the Jason Taylor trade.

I don't know what was going on in Loomis' first few years on the job, but once he hired Sean Payton he has made some very astute moves, and gambles. I'm not certain how much input or influence Payton has, although he was Shockey's OC in NY, but the drafting has been better, the FA pickup of Brees was perhaps a franchise saving move, and I will be intensely watching the health and progress of this year's plum pickup, MLB Jonathan Vilma from the Jets. Before his injury, and while playing in a 4-3 defense, Vilma was a one man wrecking ball, with few peers at the MLB position. Then came the Jet's switch to the 3-4, and his injury. If he comes back even close to what he was, this year's New Orleans defense won't resemble those of old. If he comes all the way back, he'll be starting for the NFC at MLB in the Pro Bowl. Loomis' moves might not have gotten all the bravado the Vikings got for the Jason Allen deal, but between Vilma and Shockey, Loomis may have positioned his team for a better run come playoff time.

The Giants can only win in this situation. They just picked up two picks for Shocky. IMO boss will be a fine TE for the future.

I agree with you here, ramsdraft1029. I'm confident they'll turn at least the 2nd into a good player, perhaps both. Still you don't know that either. One problem the Gmen have now at TE is depth, especially quality depth. Of course, they didn't know about Boss last year either until Shockey got hurt.

Make no mistake, Jeremy Shockey is no doubt one of the better TEs in the league. And, if he stays healthy, he's going to a team with a QB in Drew Brees who knows how to utilize the TE, as he formerly threw to Antonio Gates. I don't know anything about Fantasy Football, but I do know it's based on catches, TDs, etc., and if I were a betting man, a healthy Shockey is going to have a lot of both this year.

The Saints will be Ready To Do Work, Vilma will be a beast, Sed Ellis, Will Smith Charles Grant, Roman Harper, Hopefully they can do work with their Corners, but they have a solid Offense, and if Meachem ever lives up to potential and stays healthy there is an added bonus there.
