First off, let me just tell you all how hard it was to sit down and do this writeup after watching this game. But I am a professional(haha) and professionals have to do tough things like this. Wisconsin went out on top early, converting 5 first half Michigan turnovers into 19 points, and led 19-7 at halftime. However, in the 2nd half, Wisconsin's offense came out flat, and Michigan's offense finally did something. After only gaining 21 yards on 19 first half offensive plays, Steven Threet led the Wolverines on a touchdown drive to start the 3rd quarter. Michigan caught a tipped Allan Everidge pass late in the 3rd quarter and took it in for the score, and the 20-19 lead. Wisconsin mounted a late comeback which included another fumble inside the Michigan 10, but Gilreath's acrobatic catch with under a minute to go gave the Badgers one last chance to tie it up. Travis Beckum caught the game tying 2 point conversion before the refs called a illegal formation penalty(!!!!). The 2nd try from 5 yards further out was no good, and Big Blue held on for the win.

Michigan PP's:

Vince Helmuth, FB, Michigan- Did not register a run, but did put on some nice blocks in the 2nd half. Had a terrible first half as did the rest of the Michigan offense. Isn't the fastest guy, and runs straight up too much. Needs to break down more for better leverage on the defender: C

Tim Jamison, DE, Michigan- Had a ton of pressure, but was never able to convert those pressures into sacks. Finished with a meager 2 tackles(1 solo), and one pass breakup. Amazed me when looking at the stats, because it seemed like he had a 2nd home in the Badgers backfield: B

Will Johnson, DT, Michigan- Had 4 tackles(1 solo), and one big fumble recovery. Does not do a good job of shedding his blockers, but is at least good at holding his ground. The Wisconsin offensive line did a good job of placing him where they wanted, to his credit though, he did make a nice spin move to take down PJ Hill for a minimal gain: C+

Greg Matthews, WR, Michigan- The one Michigan WR with any kind of experience, Matthews had 4 catches for 48 yards, leading the team in both categories. Has good hands but did have a drop. Needs to make routes crisper to be up there with some of the past Michigan great wideouts: B-

Steve Schilling, OT, Michigan- I remember Schilling on the recruiting circuit, big 5 star Olineman from Seattle, but those days are long behind him. Schilling, as you must think is is an echo by now, had a bad first half followed by a good 2nd. Needs to finish his blocks, and extend his arms more. Looks good on pass blocking, as he clearly has the athleticism to keep up with corner pass rushers.: B-

Terrence Taylor, DT, Michigan- Finished with 6 tackles(2 solos) and a fumble recovery. Quick first step and has some nice flashy moves. Does a good job of bringing the ballcarrier down immediately when contacting them. Big strong body, but needs to create a little more penetration to be considered a top prospect for me: B

Cory Zirbel, OT, Michigan- DNP

Brandon Graham( DE #55) had a monster game with 6 tackles(4 solos), 3 sacks, 3 TFL, and 2 forced fumbles. Expect big things for him in the future.

Donovan Warren(#6 S) looks like he has a lot of upside, and in his 2nd year in college, is in his 2nd full season starting. Will have a lot of game experience whenever he goes into the NFL.

Wisconsin PP's:

Travis Beckum, TE, Wisconsin- Coaches wanted to keep him out because of a sore hamstring, but were forced to insert him in the game late when no receiver could make a catch. Caught the apparent game tying 2 point conversion, before being called back on a late illegal formation penalty call. Finished with 2 catches for 17 yards: Incomplete

Jake Bscherer, OT, Wisconsin- DNP

Gabe Camiri, OT, Wisconsin- Played a pretty poor game overall. Led edge rushers breath down Evridge's kneck all day, and did not open up any holes for RB PJ Hill. Also had a costly penalty call in the 2nd half C-

Jonathan Casillas, LB, Wisconsin- Had a tough game back 2 weeks ago against Fresno State, but came back to have a great game against Michigan. Finished with a team leading 8 tackles(6 solos), .5 TFL, and a pick at the end of the 1st half that he almost took back for an interception. Had great explosion in his tackles, and did a great job of wrapping up the ballcarrier. Wisconsin's defensive MVP: A

PJ Hill, RB, Wisconsin- A big deal was made that PJ hadn't run the ball well against Michigan in the past, and the trend continued. PJ had nowhere to run all day and finished with 70 yards off 22 carries. Struggled for yards all day, but was able to grind out a few first downs. Also had 3 receptions for 38 yards. Maybe I'm just being too hard on him, or expecting too much, but he certainly didn't carry the Wisconsin offense like he has in the past: B-

Andy Kemp, OG, Wisconsin- Did a nice job of not allowing the Michigan DT's to gain penetration into the Badger backfield, but did not push them back. The end result was minimal gains for the Badger run game except for 1 big run by John Clay. Kemp is polished, but doesn't have much upside as a prospect: C+

Chris Pressley, FB, Wisconsin- Had a subpar day blocking. Although to his credit, PJ never really made it past the defensive line, so Pressley's blocking had little effect on the play anyways: C

Matt Shaughnessy, DE, Wisconsin- Had 5 tackles(4 solos). Wasn't able to get the same pressure that he did against Fresno State. Needs to add more moves to his pass rushing array, and could take a little better angles to the ballcarrier: B

Kraig Urbik, OG, Wisconsin- Pretty much ditto to the other Wisconsin offensive lineman. Urbik did a better job than Kemp did, but also could not open up holes for the Badger running attack. Passing protection, he wasn't bad, but could have done a better job picking up blitzes: C+

Eric VandenHeuvel, OT, Wisconsin- Had an abysmal day. Just could not keep Michigan defenders out of the backfield. Pass rushing was especially bad, but was not bright at rush blocking either. For Eric, this is just one of those games you forget about: D

John Clay(RB) broke off a huge run and also had a nice 4 yard touchdown run. He may be Wisconsin's best all around back.

I'm also really surprised Deandre Levy is not in the database. He was the national defender of the week 2 weeks ago, and will definitely be drafted come April.

The Badgers return home to host Ohio State in a highly anticipated night game. The Wolverines stay home to host the Illini.

Nice work, Sam. I appreciate how tough this one must have been for you to do with objectivity, and you did a very nice job with it.

It just drives me nuts when I can't read this with the HT,WT, and class year though. Remind me again why you don't just C&P the gametracker in, and then edit your post until it's done?

TIA>...

haha if it really bugs you that much Steve, I will do it. I'm not sure what you mean by that though, usually when I put in the height and weight, etc I have to put in all in individually and I don't like putting in all that extra work for simple statistics(I feel like breaking down the player is more important). But I will do it next time...

K...cool.

Here's what I do. I pull up the gametracker of the game I am about to write up, I highlight and Ctrl-C the players from the gametracker. Then, I start my the writeup thread, then I Ctrl-V that info all in after my first paragraph (where I summarize the game itself) and then I save the post. I then edit the post, and put the cursor to the right of the first guy (and all his info) and type my comments. I repeat for each guy.

It saves a ton of typing, AND; now you have the player's name, jersey #, class, pos, ht, wt, speed all in your writeup without having to type any of that over.

Bill C....do you also see what I am saying?

I agree that the GT is a labor saver, I just need to make better use of it. wink.gif

Ok but you're still writing all his height weight and numbers down individually, and also you're completely reliant on if the info is there in our database and that's not always the case...
PatriotofMaine
Huh? You aren't writing anything down individually except when the information is first added to the database. Also, why scout guys that aren't even in the database? Of course, you may occasionally add or delete somebody, but I think some of us are missing the entire point of the GT here.
PatriotofMaine
P.S. The info on all 2009 guys (Ht, Wt, Speed, est. 40-time, etc.) IS DUE BY 6-15 every year.

If some guys are missing data AND are in the 2009 graduating class, that is the conference writer's responsibility/problem/deficiency.

Aren't we usually trying to scout games in our own conferences?
