Boise got off to a quick start and never looked back as they romped at home. This program continues to be one that is now a factor year in, year out. They did not go into rebuiling mode with the loss of several key players to graduation, but simply reloaded.

College: Boise State Conference: Western Athletic Columnist: Brett Walker
Name # Ht Wt Speed Pos Class Game Notes

Kyle Wilson 1 5' 9.5" 184 4.50 CB 2010
Drives through WRs when he tackles them. Returns punts...Excellent cover skills in the open field and can run with the WR. Got beat on a double move covering the slot WR. Had a pass defensed where he tipped a jump ball away... Had a total of 3 pass defensed on the evening.... 2 tackles total...Stays low in his backpedal and can change direction quickly. Smallish type corner who looks to have the skills to be drafted in 2010 if he continutes to develop. Grade: Positive

Ian Johnson 41 5' 11.0" 194 4.55 HB 2009
3/106 Receving 9/45 Rushing... Deadly out in space with the ball....Quick, but looks a tad slower after he's bulked up some....Can't move a pile or a LB. He needs to stretch out his stride length in the open field. It's too choppy and he needs 3 or 4 steps to get to top speed. Once he gets to top speed he does open up his stride length more and displays better run skills. Gets run down by faster DBs. Smooth pass catcher out of the backfield. Can make aggressive DBs miss in the open field. Very productive player with the same production throughout his career. IMO projects to a 3rd down back at the next level who contributes on STs. Needs to show he's fast at the Combine to ascend the draft board. Grade: Positive

Jeremy Childs 9 5' 11.0" 195 4.55 WR 2010
JR WR who I believe was suspended from the team in the summer but has worked his way back into the mix. 4/36 on the evening. Had a drop. Most of his catches were short outs on the sidelines. I didn't see him go across the middle or deep. Not enough to really grade him on due to the blow out nature of the game. Grade: Incomplete

College: Louisiana Tech Conference: Western Athletic Columnist: Brett Walker
Name # Ht Wt Speed Pos Class Game Notes
Antonio Baker 34 5' 10.5" 200 4.60 S 2010
Solid tackler who had 7 solos and 4 assists on the evening. Seemed more comfortable near the line and didn't do anything in coverage to stand out or be noticed. Looks to be a traditional in the box style SS. Grade: Neutral

Quin Harris 37 6' 1.5" 221 4.70 LB 2009
Played, but didn't do anything of note. I've seen him before and he's almost always stood out. Not tonight. Grade: Negative

Patrick Jackson 23 5' 9.5" 193 4.55 HB 2009
10/25 Rushing...Got stoned all evening by the Boise St. front seven....Didn't have space to work....Didn't do anything to stand out...Looked tentative and slow. The other RB Porter #20 was more effective on the evening. Grade: Negative

DAnthony Smith 5 6' 1.0" 288 5.20 DT 2010
1 tackle, 1 pass breakup. Another player who really didn't show up to play or make his presence felt. Lacks foot speed even for a big man....Needs to play to the whistle... Wears down late in the drive or game. Grade: Negative

Weldon Brown 35 5' 9.0" 187 4.48 CB 2009
6 tackles, 1 interception. One of the few LA Tech defenders who showed up. Did a good job keeping his side silent even though the LA Tech pass rush was weak. Good ability to mirror and stay with the WR. Grade: Slightly Positive

Notes: Boise seems to have found another QB in Kellen Moore RS FR. He's an accurate kid who has a good football IQ....RB Ian Johnson doesn't see as many carrier because Boise now has a stable of RBs who can play. DJ Harper and Jeremy Avery help take some of the rushing load off Johnson....DE SO Ryan Winterswyk continues to impress every time I see him. He had .5 sack and 5 tackles with steady pressure throughout the evening.... Boise has now taken control of the WAC again with the Fresno St. loss late last evening in OT to Hawaii....LA Tech JC transfer Kwame Jordan had a sack and two tackles on the evening.

I agree on Brown. Looks like a priority UDFA to me. I think Wilson is actually draftable though. You, Brett?

What did you think of Jr. RB Daniel Porter for LA Tech (#20, 5'9", 190)? I haven't seen tackle-breaking like that since...hmmm...how far back do I go?

I was also impressed with their 6'1" 265-pound MIKE, Brannon Jackson. Looked very solid in the first half, and then I didn't see him much in the second. Does he have what it takes to be a PP?

Jackson was in last year and had a knee issue and got a medical RS. I've fixed him so he is in. He really didn't impress me much to think he is more than a UDFA. Brown is a guy I don't remember from last year but I'll need to see him a tad more. I'd say UDFA at this point.
I think I said in my writeup that I thought Wilson was draftable next year.
The JR RB Porter for LA Tech looked good. I try not to put too much into one game one way or the other. He does break tackles. But at 190 he won't make it at the next level breaking tackles. He didn't seem like he had a lot of speed.
